user reviews of the Old Hall, Altrincham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Decent drinks selection and table service, however thought the food was average at best. Substantial amount of packets and microwaves involved and the portions (particularly the amount of chips) was poor.

Could do with somewhere for the kids outside but the atmosphere on the whole was pleasant although it was fairly early on a Saturday afternoon.

Must have been busy the day before as we had to clean the table ourselves once seated and I think we were the first customers for this area of the pub that day

Not sure whether we'd eat here again but would certainly pop in for a pint

Marstons Pedigree, Burton Bitter and a guest, Hobgoblin Yo-Ho-Ho (2.45), on draught, the latter being OK. Very much aimed at the food market.

Was in here last night and the bar staff are shocking! I've been a barman for 9 years and ordered a pint of Peroni. When it came it was a couple of inches shy of a pint. When I asked for it to be topped up he refused and then went on to demonstrate that it was in fact a pint but ended up proving himself wrong and yet he still would not top it up. I have never experienced anything like it. I used to go in fairly regularly during the summer and had no problems. It would seem that it's under new management. Managers who can't even perform the simple act of pouring a pint!

Cannot believe how much the atmosphere has improved in this pub. New management trying different themes. Much nicer vibe in there now

Went in a week ago with my mum, dad & sister and my kids. Our experiance was good. Food was very good. Staff, very polite and helpful. They do table service now which is great as some months ago you had to order your food at the bar.

Historical building set in lovely surroundings and is children friendly too. You don't have to be a golfer to dine at the old hall!

We are regular visitors to The Old Hall at Timperley, Altrincham and we highly recommend it. We keep returning due to the good food, drink, nice staff and its picturesque location. The place is also kept clean and tidy. We sometimes sit outside on the spacious patio and watch the golfers on the 18 hole course that surrounds the Old Hall. They include many special offers like the 2 for 10 every day. Two main courses for just 10. Monday night is Grill night with all steaks at half price. Tuesday is Pudding Club and all puddings are just 1.50 each! Wednesday is Curry night, 5.25 with a free drink. This one is our favourite Thursday night buy two main course meals and get a free bottle of wine! Friday night is Fish Night, traditional fish & chips for just 4.25

We shall be having our Christmas dinner there again too, which was excellent last year. We highly recommend the experience.

Is Warwick Hunt's review in code? i.e. if you put the words in capitals together is it a secret message to someone called Marc about community services fines????!!

We were at the Old Hall last night for a Christmas get together with a group of friends, around 20 of us.
We arrived at around 8.45. Disco was in full swing, dancers up and the atmosphere seemed really good. HOWEVER, without any indication that the bar had closed we were suddenly and rudely expelled from the pub at around 11.30. No call for last orders, just an abrupt response from the bar staff when we asked for a drink "we also have homes to go to"!
Being the build-up to Christmas, we expected the bar to be open until at least 12! We couldn't quite believe the 1970s attitude of the staff asking everyone to make their way to the exit. Our Christmas get-together was cut short and ruined by the rude, bad mannered approach of the management. We used the Old Hall last year and a good time was had by all. We wont be using it again, for any occasion.

The place is GOING DOWN,! Poor service without a SMILE, gone right down the NICK, landlady only serves herself, decor not very pLUSH, landlord can be a bit of a TOUCHY feely type with the GIRLS and needs to get a GRIP !
BITTER, well I may have been UNLUCKY but tasted off!!.Food obviously freezer to microwave to table, dirty water marked cutlery! Toilets appear to be in need of a good old SCRUBBER and deep clean. The whole place smells of wet dog. Not a COMMUNITY pub poor SERVICE
All in all somewhere to park the car when having a round of golf which is FINE. does not get a good MARC from US which is ONLY WHAT IT DESERVES. CHEERS merry christmas and a prosperous new year X

The food here was very disappointing. This has put me off returning, even though the beer was good.

It's amusing to read reviews that mirror my own experiences over the years. I finally got around to writing a letter of complaint a few months back but was sent a polite non-commital reply. The beer is good but the staff, service and food is what you'd expect from a place with a 'chain' mentality (high turnover of badly paid & trained staff). Good for drinking but not for family occasions.

Had a sunday roast in here the other day and it was rubbish. My cat has better quality beef than the beef they were serving and the potatoes were rock hard.

Have been to this restaurant several times when it was a Beefeater and the food was not up to Scratch it was your basic frozen meal that had been put in a microwave. The good thing that kept me coming back was how friendly the staff were there was never a dull moment. The food now is excellent and the decor inside is really something but I agree with comments already made about the staff maybe they could take some tips from the old Beefeater Staff!!!

Nice smoke free zones in there. Went for Xmas meal last night - very good. Shame some miserable old goat served us - smile love its Xmas! Landlord done well here and you can't beat having Fred as the barman!!

If you want to go somewhere on a summer evening when you've had a few smokes then this is the place. Sit outside & laugh at the 'golfers' slicing their way up the 16th & enjoy a few decent ales. On the whole scrote free which is worth a lot these days.

I have visited this pub with my family on two occasions since the refurbishment and both times could not get a table for a meal, so can not comment on the food but the staff we were greated with on both occasions were not very welcoming and we ended up going somewhere else.

went in for one the other day.
the restaurant isn't really my thing but the pub is a lot better than under Beefeater management.

for a start they've got the excellent Hydes range, that includes one or two rather special ales (and they're a local brewers, let's not forget).

the usual suspects lager wise, but also the happy sight of a still relatively rare draught Staropramen.
if you do happen to be passing through and need a beer it's worth popping in for either the bitter or Staropramen alone.

recommended (with the proviso that even people from Timperley would only end up here once in a blue moon).

Best advice on this place is to go when your local pubs are doing your head in a bit. Its one of them pubs that are good once every few months. The barstaff are okay and the managers are okay if you fancy a game of cards plus a golf course is full of entertainment on the walk home. I did however see a very drunk irishman in their last time spilling his beer everywhere and blaming "the ducks" - not really sure what to make of that so answers on a post card please!!

I visited the Old Hall at lunchtime today and must say that I do not recognise the above description.

Lunch was good and served by willing and helpful staff. The landlord was friendly and helpful and I wish him and his wife every success.
