The beer in this pub in consistently good especially the Shipstone's and Castle Rock beers. Its just a shame that everything else about this pub is fairly mediocre, which is a shame because it used to be fantastic back in the day before the modernisers started hacking it around.

In the interests of public service I thought I'd update this feedback. I live locally and visit The Ferry Inn frequently. Overall it has improved. If you visit when the manager is on duty, which is most of the time, he keeps his staff cheerful and always has a bit of friendly banter. The service at the bar is slow but just about tolerable. When it's busy ie: sunny with outside diners, the kitchens can't cope with demand and there is an unacceptable delay for food. The beer is always good!! Some of the staff need a kick up the arse and when the manager isn't around the service is hit and miss and the staff aren't attentive enough. The garden is large but isn't anything to write home about and is definately not suitable for children OR DOGS so don't take them. The food is good nearly always. Overall it's a good local and we feel lucky to have it on the door step but nothing's perfect and with a bit more polish and strong leadership this pub could be a 'destination restaurant'. As it is, it's a good (not excellent) pub ... go and try it and buy some beer and support the local pub.

My wife and I went for a lunchtime drink and a sandwich. We're reluctant to use The Ferry Inn because we've usually had poor service over the past 3 or 4 years. We decided to try again on one of our rare days off together. We only wanted the ham and cheese sandwich, not much to ask for in an English pub. Got the drinks, got the table, ordered the food, opened the tab ... sorry - no 'am. No 'am? (ham). We ordered something else but on leaving we were asked if everything had been ok ... apparently there hadn't been any ham for 2 days. Why not? Why hadn't someone just got in the car and gone to buy some? It's not difficult Mr Manager. Just another, albeit small, nail in the coffin of The Ferry Inn.

We had recently had a Christmas meal here and I must say that I experienced the WORST service I have ever had to endure. The bar staff were slow and didn't know which of the wines on the menu were red and which were white. They also struggled to find the spirits when ordered. On top of this they had run out of a lot of the wine on the menu, including the Wine of the Month displayed on chalk board behind the bar - citing a missed wine delivery as the problem. Then the food. The food was exteremly poorly cooked and displayed. The waiting staff did not have the slightest idea what they were doing. Drinks orders never arrived - the waitress didn't even know what Staropramen was - it was one of their main draft beers behind the bar. A person on another table has their meal tipped over them. The manager was the only competent person in the place, but of course she could not do everything. This was supposed to be a nice family Christmas meal, but was totally runined. The food was not cheap by the way. Very disappointed. On the plus side - the Real Ale was well kept and the wine (when available) was good quality.

the ferry inn is a restaurant with a small bar and limited room for those who do not wish to eat. the ferry inn is not a `pub`. having said that, the beer is reasonably well kept and smokers are (thankfully) well catered for. plenty of tables with attached umbrellas provide ample cover for us lepers to continue to indulge in our disgusting habit.

Lovely place - so the service may be a little leisurely, but if its a relaxed evening with great food and well served ale that you're after you won't be disappointed. Eaten here in two occassions and both times it was very good - recommended

Fine food, whilst pricier than average, was served in a timely manner, unlike previous comments. That said, a personality implant wouldn't go amiss with the staff that my family were exposed to, & some manners education wouldn't go amiss. Our visit was mid-afternoon, so it may have been end of shift syndrome & the timeliness may have been because they weren't so busy. Either way, not enough to preclude another visit.

After four or five visits in recent weeks, on the whole I feel the service is consistently very slow. They always seem to have plenty of staff on but it can be hard to figure out what they're all doing. Beer, food and wine are all pretty good. There always seem to be lots of flies buzzing around, and this wouldn't happen if more attention was paid to cleaning the tables.

We went to the ferry last night,Orderd our food at 19:00 at 19:45 our starters came out (COLD!) and by 20:45 with no mains we went to get a refund,Only to find others at the till getting refunds..The service is rubbish there! We dine there five or six times a year but not anymore. There must have been some staff changes as the place used to be good. I would suggest that senior management look into the way the ferry is running as six complaints of missing meals in one night is just not on!

This is a great riverside pub just by the ha'penny bridge.

Good food and wide range of beers.
