Friendly village pub in the beautiful Hampshire countryside with a nice beer garden. 3 ales on from Ringwood (no guest ales, which would have made it more exciting) in reasonable nick. Tasty food, from a straightforward menu. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We were staying in the area and wanted to go out for dinner on a Saturday night and a pint. We phoned a load of pubs in the area. They were all immensely expensive or full. Then we hit on this one.

It was extremely quit, with only a couple of locals in the bar. But the food was great and affordable, the beer was very good and the service could not be faulted.

I hope they can keep open. They really deserve to. But with this level of custom I can't see things lasting. Go and support them.!

Such a lovely pub, Such a good choice of beers that always taste to perfection - Ringwood Best and Fortyniner are standard with a guest beer on at certain times during the year. I have eaten at The Cartwheel Inn a fair few times now, and I must say the food is very good, your typical pub grub menu, with a specials board that changes constantly.
I like this pub, because you are welcomed with a smile and chit chat as soon as you walk in the door, by the staff and the locals sat at the bar. The atmosphere is always lively and cheery even when there is no-one else in the pub, and the staff are always happy to help and go that extra mile to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
Since the change of landlords back in 2010, I have never experienced a problem with this pub and I will continue to drink and eat there on a regular basis.

I really wanted to like this pub; it welcomes walkers and dogs (with well-behaved owners!), the beer is fine, and it's a traditionasl country pub which we should all support. So why did they ruin our Sunday roast ?? I have not had such a bad meal in a long time; the vegetables were virtually rotten and had to be returned; the yorkshire pudding was so heavy it could have been used as a weapon; the beef was grey and lying in a watery gravy. And to cap it all when I went to pay the 50+ bill at the bar, the barmain asked in a load voice so that all present could hear 'would you like to leave a tip sir ?' presumably on the assumption that with everybody at the bar watching I would do so; unfortunately she was mistaken. I like to think our bad treatment was a one off, but it will be a while before I go back to find out.....

This pub changed hands in 2010 so although the pub itself is little changed, obviously the previous reviews re. service and beer and food will be out of date.
Ringwood ales, Best, Fortyniner and Old Thumper plus another two real ales I can't remember. Beer was OK. A large choice of beer for a country pub down a quiet lane, it was very quiet when we visited midweek lunchtime. Large choice of good, not over fancy, reasonably priced pub food, to suit everyone from sandwiches to full meals.

It is sad that this pubs low rateing is based on early reviews. All I ask is that you base your appraisal on all those post 2007 because this is a great pub. Our walking group dropped in at 11.30am for a pint & liked it so much we stayed for lunch. My only gripe was that I missed out on the excellent Wareham faggot dish, as there was only one portion left. So I can only echo what others have said, great Ringwood beer, chrystal clear, lovely food & another pub where we were made genuinely welcome. Oh! & if you are into horses you will be in good company. Dessert Orchid came from these parts. My rateing an 8.5

There are now new land lord and lady - brother and siter they are the friendliest people ever! We go there qite often now for food they do fish and chip and a steak night t a very resonable price of 6.50! All of the locals are very friendly - occasionally live music and a beer festival which is always a great night! Very tidy and large bar area! And you have to try the lasagne!

It is nearly two years since I made the initial entry. The Cartwheel now seems to require the urgent attention of a wheelwright - and a wheelman as well (which is what an American will call a helmsman).

There seems to have been a total loss of direction. The atmosphere has been lost, and neither the food nor the drink is worth the effort of the road journey.

Gets very crowded at weekend lunchtimes. Enjoyed the food and the beer is well kept.
The customers of the Royal Oak at North Gorley seem to have gravitated here now that the good will of the place has been frittered away.

A great country pub, well worth a visit. Does well cooked pub grub with some excellent specials. Beer is limited to Ringwood with an occasional guest ale. Has lots of regular quizs (general knowledge and music) and events e.g. midsummer ball and Halloween party.

This was a free house and has now come under the Ringwood Brewery, refurbishment has taken place and the range of beers is more limited.

A nice garden area and pleasant food. The narrow road out of Fordingbridge seems never ending, it's worth a visit.
