I really like this place. It is cramped and a bit camp and always playing billy holiday and tom jones, but it's alright. It's quite dark, with twinkly lights and small tables. The french cafe look. It's somewhere to go with a close friend, boyfriend...your mum etc. Food is nice and simple, bistro, gastropub, no pasta...9.95-15.95 for dinner and a good wine list. Sometimes they have a good roast on a sunday and sometimes they run out. The waiting staff are sometimes pushed, so the service isn't fast after you first sit down. But the kitchen is quick. The only downer is the discretionary service charge. 12.5 % It can't be doing enough business expense dinners to sneak that in and most of your bill is wine anyway ...oh well.

Went here with ex bird. Resented every penny of it. In fact I resent every penny I have ever spent in Clapham. However to be fair this isn't a bad place. I recall being crammed in the marquee bit at the back, the food was reasonable and not too expensive and the service was friendly.

Not a pub at all though - and this is a website about pubs.

what an amazing time we had here, food, service and Bloody Marys were brilliant Perfect for a Su. Thanks to FOH (Charlotte) for being a great host, and not to mention all the other staff who really added positively to the environment. Great surroundings too, in the garden, perfect for a date or parties. We had the sunday lunch which couldnt be faulted, i had the lamb, others the beef, both cooked with great appeal. Ill def return!

My partner & I spent a lovely evening here celebrating our 4-year anniversary last December (2004). We sat in the beautiful garden area under twinkling lights and foliage very romantic!
The food was excellent - I had the exquisite lamb, I think BF had the salmon. Both were delicious as was the organic red wine, still unfortunately a rare find in restaurants, even these days.
The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. After our meal, we retired to the parlour downstairs where the kind waitress brought our brandies and a suitable CD for us to listen to how thoughtful!
A very enjoyable evening would definitely recommend Metro as a great place to eat and relax.

I have been to Metro several times (6/7) and I went again last week. I have been on romantic evenings as will as for partys and every time the food has been sensational! Sitting here thinking about the food just makes me want to go. I fully recommend Metro. They do great cocktails and have a large well priced wine list. The menu has a wonderful variety of foods for both starters, mains, and deserts. I think people are seriously missing out if they don't give it a try.
Congrats Chefs, you guys make that place!!!

I went to Metro on Saturday. When I booked the table for 2 I asked not to be seated in the marquee area, the person I booked it with assured me that wouldn't happen as there were quite a few big groups booked in that night. When we arrived we were taken to the only remaining table for 2, in the marquee area. It was obvious there were no other tables available, so was somewhat surprised that my request had not been noted. After being seated we had to wait 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order, 20 minutes later the cocktails arrived. After a while, even though there were plenty of staff servicing the marquee it was obvious no-one was going to take our order, we finally got someone's attention and asked them to take our food order.

The food then arrived surprisingly quickly, the starter of tiger prawns was nice, but nothing to rave about. It seemed the moment they took our starters away the main arrived. My friends lamb was nice, as was my tuna steak, however the bok choi was stringy and in-edible. As we were eating our mains the large group for the table behind us arrived, as they were taking their seats it felt as if we were sat in the corridor, with people leaning over our table to talk shout at their mates who were taking their seats.

Our mains were cleared, we asked to see the dessert menu. 20 minutes later, still no dessert menu. At this point we decided to get the bill and leave. I decided not to say anything as I felt I would not have been able to give a calm, constructive complaint. I called them yesterday to complain, I was told by the person who took the call she was concerned about my comments, but was in a meeting, so could she please call me back with 30 minutes. 24 hours later I still haven't had a return call.

In summary, the service was awful, the food was not fantastic, and they charge over the odds for the 'pleasure', the fact that they have not returned my call shows me they do not care about their customers once they have left and paid. I will not be going back there.

I had a wonderful evening here. Just came for drinks in the bar but was treated to excellent table service and enjoyed a fine selection of wines and well made cocktails. The chilled music was spot on and the venue looks great lit by candles. Would definitely come again and also try the food. Only downer was a suited Claphamite at the next table who complained that the some people in the bar were enjoying themselves too loudly!

We had a fantastic group dinner (9) at this bar recently. Really professional staff, great food and an excellent, well priced wine list. The garden restaurant is really lovely for birthday dinners, or romantic dates! Fully recommendable.
