This pub is overpriced and food takes a long time to be served. I have found the staff to be very disorganised when I have been there, and decided to stop going there altogether when they recently got a Christmas party booking wrong, resulting in my having to find another venue at short notice.

i have to say..the pub looks nice and could be a great meeting place for your friends also close to the station, the menu looks great too and affordable prices but i think is totally rubish, the manager is cold staff you can tell they don't work as a team,i had to wait wait and wait because of their mistake, and the food is not so great for such a great adveetisei it was better years ago

Part of a small chain with aspirations towards being a gastro-pub. What exactly is a gastro-pub anyway?? Random pubs which serve food are calling themselves this now. For most, the ideal would be a traditional pub which really does have 'quality' wines and 'well-kept' ales and also serves some decent 'home-cooked' food - albeit with a touch of flair. Alas, in most cases, this is too much to ask, and the Prince Regent is no exception. The young groovy bar staff are ok, but could be a couple notches more friendly, and you can feel tension in the air sometimes. There's almost certainly a divide between them and the chefs, who work in a small open plan kitchen at one end of the bar. The chefs look p'd off most of the time and I've found on more than one occasion that a key ingredient of a dish has been changed, or that I've been misled by a description into thinking that, for example, sun dried tomatoes feature significantly when I've had two (in fact one, cut in half) in the entire dish - or that broad beans magically change into peas without prior notice. Staff weren't keen to tackle these problems when asked and apologies on most occasions were not forthcoming. No-one likes the feeling of being ripped off, even in a small way, and I have left this pub feeling annoyed or dissatisfied a few times now. When eating out these days expectations are higher, particularly in a venue that sets itself up as better than average. The Prince Regent needs to get off its laurels and pay attention to detail. Apart from the food, the beer is fine. Wine list ok with the usual Chilean Sauvignon, Sangiovese, etc etc.

A bit bland and the whole pub seemed to be reserved for a group of American students - according to the Yorkshireman I was talking to. I didn't have any beer as I was on the way to an appointment but would not refuse to come back here. It does sound like it used to be a lot better as the Black Widow though. My Yorkshire friend reckons the day of the real ale pub is over. I hope he's wrong.

I can't speak for the yuppie evenings or gastro side, but I found this pub absolutely lovely on a sunny late afternoon. At this time of day it wasn't too busy and it is a pleasant room with oak furniture and sofas. The windows were all open and it was very pleasant.

There is a fantastic painting of the Regent one one wall.

Excellent pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord at a not too yuppy 2.90.

I would agree with other comments, one of those pubs that are full of yuppies talking about the latest ferrari they have bought or the latest house they have bought.
Not my cup of tea at all, and if its not yours get yerself down the stanhope arms round the corner proper down to earth pub, if full of tourists sometimes!

Total rubbish. This really does encapsulate everything that is wrong with London pub's now. The Black Widow was quirky and fun....this is just a mcdonalds with beer taps. The owners should be ashamed.

It's now rather bland inside, but their food is good and the ale was acceptable. More a pub to take your parents to lunch to, then to have an evening out with your mates. It's quite expensive, but that's explained by the area you're drinking in.

R.I.P. the Widow in every sense; it was arguably the best pub for a rawkus night out in London (which is why it had to close) and the new version, whilst serving accept gasto-esq fare, is totally lame and sterile by comparison. Can't rate it because am totally biased from before (would have been one of three or four pubs I've been too to merit a 10) but nearly cried when I saw a sleekness of the new toliet 'complex.' Alright beer though, decent to people watch through the expansive windows, some comfy seats, and board games (!!).

Oops, excuse typos there, and damn, no edit button ... I'm not REALLY that linguistically challenged, 'onest guv ;~)

Oh what a travesty ... :~(

Last time we visited this pub, it was The Black Widow, and whilst others may ghav not found it to their taste, we never had a problem with staff, and while a tad kitsch abd tacky, the tongue in cheek decor was superb. Couldn't fault it.

NOW ... went there last night, found it's been changed to The Prince Regent, a very non~descript and vacuous venue, all on one level and about as much atmosphere as a non functioning barometer.

Needless to say, we didn't stay, and wouldn't reccommend this place to anyone now. There aer already far too many pubs that cater for this bland market.

NUL POINTS!

I should have said Prince Regent but 'Price' is pretty accurate
nickdavies - 1 Jul 2005 13:00
Now refurbished and renamed The Price Regent

If you're in the area, there are soooo many better pubs you could go to. Slow, discourteous service from a staff that are clearly overworked and underpaid - went in at lunchtime to have food but had to leave to go back to work before the food had even arrived. Friends who have eaten there before have said it's really not worth waiting for. Great decor and innovative cocktails are probably the only upsides

As theme pubs go it's not bad and the spooky music in the toilets is quite funny too. The food is ok and the staff friendly but they only have John Smiths as the only bitter on tap. Would be good to go there on Hallow'een!

Other than the cheap cocktails there isn't much to write home about Teh Black Widow. The staff fit the dismal atmosphere, surly and slow, and the clientel is generally pretty sad. It's worth a look though as the decor is quite funny. Wouldn't recommend it for a night out, but a quick cocktail to start the night wouldn't hurt too much.
beach03 - 1 Feb 2005 17:45
The students keep the place busy during the week. We tried some cocktails there last night, not bad. Got lost finding the toilets though. Kind of fun for a while (the pub, not the jakes).

The Black Widow is top drawer. The staff are friendly and it's rare to find a pub that serves food as good as this place in London.
Briony - 3 Sep 2004 15:21
Better than the Rat and Parrot that used to be here, but not a patch on Stokers, a nearby haunt which it replaced. Not worth the effort unless you are near by.
Luke - 22 Jul 2004 14:44
The Witch's Tit, as it is known in some IC circles....don't see the attraction myself, no real ale so you've got to pay three quid for Guinness
Nick - 13 Jul 2004 12:52
black widow is a faaantastic pub, drinks arent badly priced. just wondering what time it closes on new years eve?!
anonymous - 31 Dec 2003 14:32
The Black Widow will forever be my favorite London pub. It is a perma-Halloween themed joint and features seven sins drinks- quite good, let me tell you! If you try them all [by getting your 'Passport to Purgatory' filled], you get a free t-shirt [which you can also buy for 10]. They have better than average pub food [it was actually my first lunch in London] and the atmosphere is obviously great!
lily - 10 Dec 2003 16:18
Why did nobody mention that it doesn't sell real ale? - I went there and had to drink lager which... really... makes... me... mad!!! (nice decor, though)
DeviousDave - 20 Nov 2003 14:54
Top class joint

Happy Halloween, well it was for us! Great pub, packed to the rafters and a great environment/atmosphere. Top marks to the staff who worked so bloody hard that night, and managed to keep smiling, a memorable night for me and my friends

amazing
anonymous - 1 Nov 2003 15:42
well the genius who located it in knightsbridge has it wrong-i live not far..let me tell you a postcode is not an area !! sw7 happens to cover south kensington and knightsbridge which spills over into sw1w so its no more or less knightsbridge due to a different postal code!
this SOUTH KENSINGTON pub is very unique, it has a horror theme, and indeed attracts tourists and locals alike -mostly after office workers having a drink-tourists on weekends. i love the place personally and rate it highly do go to this place!

I was there last night, I think its a great pub with a great atmosphere. I had the apple pie and loved it, will have to try the chocolate cake!!
anonymous - 1 Mar 2003 12:48
I think it is a great pub. I highly recommend the chocolate cake served warm with ice-cream.
anonymous - 23 Feb 2003 09:46
Goth type place. I liked it, although that could've just been the beer talking. I think I remember them being a bit arsey at closing time, but that may well have been our fault for not drinking up quickly.
anne - 10 Jan 2003 16:21
I have just visited this pub, I think it is great. Deffinately worth a visit, try it out and rate it
