I love a basement pub. Small, cramped, atmospheric. Not here. It's a cross between Wetherspoons and an American sports bar. Not that its's bad - the ales are fine, the service is good - it's just a bit corporate bland.

fortunately i took over ownership of Walkers on 25th feb 2010 before the posted reviews. Staff were probably so rude on the last review post because they were all by now aware that i was replacing them all with my own staff.
Come and join us at Walkers...yeah its in the basement...and a little bit dark..but the musics good...and the staff are fantastic...and the food..thats pretty good too, especially the pieminister pies... and you can look in awe at the framed Sheffield United shirt from our relegation season 2010/11 to division 1...division 3 in old money! good times!

UNWELCOME: Visited tonight and all the previous posts are out of date. Our lasting impression was that we were made to feel really unwelcome. We ate and kept the beers flowing throughout the night and soon after having just bought a round, last orders were called at 2215h. From then on in we were made to want to leave - bright lights turned on, chairs put on tables all around us etc. other than lifting us up and putting us on the street the staff did all they possibly could to get us out of there.

My name is Nick andI have just taken over Walkers and only opened it on the 4th September, though we have redecorated it the place is by no means finished. Hopefully RogerB will visit again in a month or so and like the hanges we will have made to the place.

The name conjures up images of an old wine vault with cobwebs, old barrels and dusty bottles stacked up to the ceiling so I was a bit surprised to find that WOSJ is little more than a basic, functional but fairly cosy bar that appears to trade on a posh and rather pretentious name. Once through the reception like entrance, a short flight of stairs takes you into a quite spacious but rather dark split level bar. Being below street level, there is no natural light and the initial impressions as you descend are that this is a gloomy and rather soulless place. The previous postings appear to be a bit out of date as I saw no sign of a pool table, no �big man� and the prices are certainly not cheap compared to some of the other pubs in the area. The bar area has bare wooden floors and to the rear is a raised section with carpeted, screened off areas, built in leather seats and lots of fake wooden beams in an attempt to replicate an olde worlde flavour. The dark nature of the bar is kept up by the textured walls that are painted in a dark, rich burgundy and what illumination there is comes from some quite unusual lamps and the 2 large plasma screens (nothing anywhere mentioned anything about having Sky). There were 2 Real Ales on my visit - Deuchers (�3.00) and Pedigree (didn�t stick around to check price) plus 1 redundant pump. Service was fine although it was fairly quiet at the time. Overall, a neat, tidy and comfortable place but ultimately lacking any real character. There are far better options within a short walk.

Er...except you can't watch football there because, according to the barmaid, they don't have Sky Sports. Oh well, reasonable (and reasonably cheap) pint whilst I waited under the misapprehension that I might be able to watch a game there the other night. Then I went somewhere better.

It is a good pub ( although I am not qualified to comment ) There is a big statue of the big man in the corner which we salute on the way in

good pub if you want a quick drink after work, or a longer one while playing pool (the table is smallish but the pool "room" nice). The new staff is very friendly, and now they've got TV screens, you can also watch football there.
