Came here not long ago just as a stop on a pub crawl. It was my first time there and it was lovely. Definitely made me wanna go back.

Much improved, is no longer just a 'student bar' and has a variety of beers.
rainlight - 11 May 2015 08:26
This place has just undergone a massive facelift-it's not super studenty anymore (though the crowd is still a younger one). They've got 2 guest ales on and a traditional cider (Old Rosie I think!) The staff were really friendly and while we didn't eat there, the food that went past us looked pretty good. Definitely worth a visit next time you're in the area!

Too many people smoking outside the door! Could not even walk in, it was so smoky! If you want customers you need to make the smokers go a bit further away from the door as not all of us want passive smoke on the way into a pub!

Visited the scream Saturday the 22/Aug/09. mid-early afternoon
Found it deserted apart from maybe 2 or 3 others.
Ordered a pint for my mate,
then ordered a vodka and orange, to find they had no Vodka of any brand at all.
So I ordered an orange juice, No orange juice either just an empty carton they had been keeping cold in the fridge.
I asked for a coffee insted, the bar man boy then explained the coffee machine was out of order.
Then out of the blue he brought me a beer, I looked at him and he then said that I hadn't ordered one it must of been for him.
It was fairly clear to me that this guy was drunk and it was n't 2:30 yet.
By this time I needed a drink so I said I'd have a jack daniels as I could see they still had some of that.
He then went over and asked his manager or maybe his friend, how to check a 50 note which took about 6 minutes. I tried to make light of the event excuse him, it being a student pub I said he probably didn't get may 50 notes. He said he had had 2 yesterday which made me wonder why he still hadn't learn't how to check them.
I'd eaten there the previous week the food was ok, the menu limited to mostly burgers and chips, the chef was sorry at not having any strawberries for his salad. I was forgiving a I didn't particularly want strawberries in a salad in a place that 95% of the menu is junk food from frozen.
That said the salad was ok. There might be a worse pub in Kingston but I'm yet to visit it. Over 13 years or so I've been going there this is a new low for this place.
The Service / Management is dire, quite who employed these people needs thier head checked. At the very least they need constant supervision buy an adult.
My advice to you is don't drink the beer out the taps just buy bottles if you have to visit this place.
In a recession you'd think a morron could make money in a budget/student pub, evidently its not the case.
Certainly the other budget pub weatherspoons is heaving, despite the mill having twice the gadgets and games its empty for all but 10 hours a week.

You may think I have a biased opinion considering I work at the mill. But I strongly believe that the mill has a good atmosphere. Like most scream pubs, the main clientel are students and therefore the prices are cheaper and the events that are put on are aimed at 18 - 25 year olds.

The mill is a fast paced environment and considering we have a lot of regulars, we must be doing something right!!

If you would like your drink served on a coaster and table service I would reccommend this pub isn't for you, but if you would like a fun, friendly, lively pub with cheap drinks and a good atmosphere with a bit of music then this is the pub to go to!!
bo_bikki - 23 Jul 2008 12:30
We love this pub, always something going on and if you dont like the football then you can go and sit in the conservatory at the back and watch the world go by
MonicaDuvall - 16 Jun 2008 18:27
Used to drink in here when I was younger and less discerning as to where I spent my money. Now that I'm a bit more bothered about quality of beer, staff, clientelle, atmosphere, decor and hygene, I obviously keep my distance from this place.

uncle_fister - 7 Feb 2007 12:33
Cheap drinks for the area so full of students. Surprising? I think not. Students don't mind a below-par atmosphere and unnecessarily loud music if there are cheaper drinks on offer; if you find this irritating then maybe this isn't the place for you...
pintofstrongbow - 2 Jan 2007 17:17
this is my local so of course im goin to defend it. im in there nearly every night and the bar staff are lovely and friendly, they always hav football on which is gd, the jukebox has loads of gd music on it, the drinks are cheap, there is a massive non smokin area for those of u who dont smoke
and in reply to ur remark, beeronaut, of course its smokey, its a pub!
if u dont like it, dont go there.
and students dont have much money but its up to us how we spend our money. its none of ur business if we drink and smoke, and if u cant stand us, dont come to a pub u no is gonna be full of us!!
the mill is a brilliant pub.
e_kbh - 26 Dec 2006 17:29
Visit this place for the hot female manager alone. Shes a real sweetie and has kicked out all the knuckle dragging scum that were allowed to flood the place. Cleaner and with a good atmosphere, Monday nights are great and the comedy on a Thursday is excellent. Food is good during the day.
camp - 25 Dec 2006 18:29
if you remember me from the early 90s i was the tall one in the gnr t shirts with sid the sexist and mark the mode

went back 10 years later and still the same vibe

enjoy
Ziggy66 - 2 Aug 2006 21:54
not bad this one, big screen for the footy and the jukebox has pretty much anything u could want, it gets the music from a massive database on the internet.
pisshead99 - 23 May 2006 02:42
Went on Halloween weekend so can't tell re normal atmosphere, but seems to be full of students who are popularly supposed to be poor but intelligent so how come they are able to afford to drink a lot and also they smoke? This pub is dominated by a huge television screen for showing the inevitable boring football matches. It is also smoky (did I mention this?) without actually having any atmosphere at all.
beeronaut - 29 Oct 2005 23:26
The amount of time I have spent waiting for a drink in this place is far too long!

I once timed it at 15 mins...

Alright apart from that but make sure you buy a few drinks for yourself at a time...or your seat will be nicked...or worst still your friends will you forget you exist...that or they will be calling the hospitals or police to report you missing!
Nicky_B - 17 Sep 2005 23:24
Fun student pub. Friendly happy staff who like having a chat and the beer is cheap. Its also on the river. What more can I say?
TheWizard - 20 Jul 2005 04:39
GOOD PRICES, AMAZIN JUKEBOX WITH OVER 2 MILLION SONGS!!! only problem like with anywer else, nower to sit on a weekend nite. but better full with nower to sit thn empty

anonymous - 6 Jul 2005 17:02
This pub has really gone downhill, which is a shame. It has been invaded by chavs... lured from the Tun by its cheap prices. I even saw someone wearing a burberry scarf the other night-WHATS WRONG WITH THE WORLD? x
anonymous - 6 Apr 2005 09:29
I heard a rumour that the Mill is now closed - does anyone know?
DeviousDave - 14 Mar 2005 14:16
Really like this place. Its cheap, good for students like me and plays good music. I like the booth seating at the back of the pub looking out onto the river. They really should invest in a late license.
amumd - 10 Feb 2005 14:59
Great place, great fruit machines. Good service.
andrewjames2004 - 30 Dec 2004 18:54
Always got a good atmosphere, decent music, very cheap drinks. Good fun when live sport is being shown, and so far i am undefeated on the table football! Can get very busy on the weekends though.
chico - 22 Nov 2004 18:46
An excellent place. Always a great atmosphere. Always cheap drinks.

Highly recommended

I was there on saturday, what a day, started off with the England match on what must be the biggest screen outside the odeon, and what other pubs would have a lone welshman stood at the bar cheering for the opposition, plenty of england shirts but no english nutters a wicked atmosphere. Then there was the DJ playing a mix of all things cool, soul, funk and even a few d&b beats. Did I mention the jukebox, connected to the internet it will play ANY song (well any we could think of) and the prices must be set by the god of student drinking. Its been a long time sice I went to watch a match and left 11 hours later wishing they had a late license. This and the lack of a beer garden were the only bad things I could find, but even then they have a conservatory at the back which I bet is nice in summer.

First went to this pub in 1986!
More Goth's than you could shake a stick at!. Who remembers the thrash drummer landlord, can't remember his name & the fab halloween nights. Remember the grape vine on the river side ceiling, great for throwing in peoples pints....ahh the best days.....still a decent pub. Oh yeah ever wondered why only one of the big windows at the front has the Kingston Mill logo on it? Well I was there that night when someone put a hammer through it after being ejected, that was about 1987/88. Made soooo many friends back then. Anyone know what happened to that bloke that would eat a whole pint glass of an evening?.......
avotech - 7 Oct 2004 21:21
The mill, like the cocoanut and fighting cocks is a fantastic place for a drink. The drinks are cheap as chips and the bar staff are lovely (if a little slow at times) Lots of pool tables, normally decent music (until they played robbie williams one night). 4 shots for a fiver, bring on the sambuca!!!!
pixie - 16 Jul 2004 15:18
wicked pub, great atmosphere, love sexy ben the barman!
anonymous - 11 Jul 2004 18:16
a mixed bag is the Mill been there a few times never once has it been the same, sometimes its empty and you've got the place to yourselves and other times its packed and you fight for every inch ... sometimes the bar is a little slow but to be expected by the volume of people ... average service, great prices ... the music is a big question mark and you get a lot of pre works piss heads in there ... other wise is okay ... is recomended for lunch times
crisisfour - 13 Jun 2004 05:45
this pub must have the worst staff in kingston spent 10 minutes waiting to be served then barman serves the last person to get to the bar. doesn't even acknowledge anybody except an off duty member of staff at the hatch then serves her straight away, an absolute joke.I apprecite it's hard when it's busy, but this guy was useless.
perhaps if the management helped instead of just drinking at the end of the bar seems that cheap beer means you get terrible service
anonymous - 1 Jun 2004 19:01
very lively staff, very comfy sofas, very um interesting way in which people abuse the jukebox, pay 1 for 4 songs...doesnt mean put michael bloody jackson on for a whole damn hour! lol other than the occasional jackson disturbances, its a grand place, where getting trashed is like lying on a couch n chillin wiv your gud maties, very very relaxing place indeed

yall beta go there and go there FAST! tis truly enjoyable

smooches xxxxxxxxxana
ana - 15 Apr 2004 13:24
This pub has got a lot going for it - big screens, pool tables, friendly staff (mostly), cheap drinks, great location by the river, comfy sofas etc....

Just watch out for the rude, moody supervisor who would rather the pub lost the business of 15 paying customers because they want to watch the sport on the big screen but he would rather watch repeats of the Simpsons.
anonymous - 23 Mar 2004 13:00
u zef, your music taste obviously matches your hair style, none existent. Where else can you hear such a range as prodigy to black eyed peas to REM. I hear westlife, five and s-club have all been removed. You'll have to come home soon we all miss you.

Big Papa G.

P.S. No scallies since you left

love man.
steven - 5 Mar 2004 09:04
i worked in the mill for over a year,, although the bar staff are the nicest in kingston, and the manager golli is th best in kingston u do get alot of scallies that cant handle their drink and from looking around ,even though my loyalties lie with the mill.. they do have the shitest juke box unlike the fighting cocks where every album is class... u zef xx
u zef in spain - 13 Feb 2004 16:48

jess - 1 Jan 2004 10:21
Student heaven, but then I'm not a student. Good choice if for one reason or another you aren't in O'Neills, what reason this maybe is beyond me however.
Scotty Boy - 24 Dec 2003 13:31
A quality cheap student pub. Good music, good deals, pool, sky, machines, table football, good food and fit barmaids. i recommend a visit for both skater and trendies alike.
John - 18 Oct 2003 11:42
There are now two fit barmaids there and drinks are cheap!
Andy - 13 Oct 2003 10:14
Was really good at first but has gone seriously down hill with the new renovation. Used to be packed all the time but now its empty?!?
Drink is cheap though and ive had some good nights there in the past. Used to be a really skatey crowd..now a bit townie-esque!
Rara - 8 Aug 2003 11:43
lively on the weekends, pool tables, cheap booze and 1 fit bar maid which never goes a miss. the pub to go to for a cheap and chearfull evening
dave - 17 Jun 2003 15:51
Typical crap Scream boozer - 2.65 for a rank pint of Guinness.
Darryl - 5 May 2003 23:30
watch out for thieving bastards when in here they will nick anything, including my glasses (not even sunglasses
anonymous - 1 May 2003 10:11
full of students being "crazy" - got a pool table though and its cheaph!!
had a few good nights there
jim - 23 Apr 2003 13:43
Cheap and cheerful. One for the students.
Angus - 28 Mar 2003 10:44
Full of young ones with their yellow cards, but who can blame them with those prices. I liked the Giant Jenga and assortments of pool tables they had. Mind you, their quizzes on Sundays meant that you had to be regular to know all the answers - strange one.
Briony - 25 Oct 2002 14:48
Many good nights there between 1990-2. Shame I cant remember most of them! Good crowd, beer and friendly bar staff - believe its now called "The Scream"
BAZ - 26 Sep 2002 15:10
A strange one - good selection of drinks on offer and usually some sort of deal going on. Predominantly a young crowd. Right on the river also. Friendly - has some good nights there.
