Very dissappointing ale choice. Lots of garish lager and keg fonts very out of place in this historical pub as was the gas log effect fire and 3 enormous TV screens. On a Saturday lunchtime there were 4 customers. Out of desperation I had Courage, the only other choice being, the much diminished in taste, London Pride. I wish I'd just left. Having said that the other was pub in Church Square was worse.

A nice comfy pub, had live music when I was last there, but ruined by a bunch of loudmouths stood in front of me who piled their coats beside me on the sofa.

(I gathered their slops together in one glass, and tipped them over the coats when they weren't looking. However, a guy over the room spotted it, and came to have a word. I managed to make a run for it, but was spotted diving into the Anchor across the way. I'd locked myself in my room by the time the receptionist had to deal with them: she did well in threatening them with the cops, but stared deeply into my eyes in the morning...).

Anyway, I had a few nice pints of Tribute before all that, and the musician/singers were excellent.

I have been to the kings head a few times and lately I had a Sunday lunch a round 3 weeks ago with my family and it was the best Sunday lunch I have had in a long long time then found it was the general manager covering for the cook what was a surprise .

Friday nights in the kings head is full of fun a great atmosphere and good service .Although something kicked off but soon was stopped before it got out of hand by a witty brave management team .

The scotsman behind the bar is very friendly and loves the banter .

I am looking forward to the next time I am in the kings head

This is a proper pub, clean, well kept beer and pleasant staff-the customers appear a bit cliquey-of the "I spy strangers" variety.

I went into the King's Head the other day. Well it's changed abit.
The pub was clean and tidy, A lovely lady behind the bar and lunch was good.
Met the manager who was polite and chatty which was a nice suprise as in so many pubs they just stand at the end of the bar ignoring customers. Also another plus about this place is they let dogs in (if well behaved and clean). One of the locals had a lovely german shepard. Will be going back!

Well I walked into an unmanned bar. Waiting 5 mins. Someone else started waiting. Decided there was enough choice elsewhere that I didnt have to hang around with my money out and no service. It was 10pm on a Monday. Looked nice.

good crack, particularly when the the sunday footy is on-gets busy!
watch out for the "soapdodger"-very well known locally, "lightfingered"-banned from a hosterly just up the road from the kings...
"he'll get plenty of rounds in-but it will come from your wallet"

Nice enough pub with a friendly landlord and plenty of screens for sport if that's what you're after. 2 ales on draught - Youngs and Courage. There's a small area along from the pub by the river with a couple of benches where you can sit and watch the world go by. Picturesque setting in Ferry Square.

As i have been a local for many off years i was put off by the hygiene until i popped by on tuesday night and noticed that the place was spotless and that there is a very charming barman who made myself and my friends fell very welcome. I have noticed how much it has improved with a little bit of cleaning how much a place can change . What ever has happened am glad that it has i fell more welcome than i did before and we are looking forward for this on coming tuesday

Liked the place in the early 1990s as it had the feel of a country boozer, what with the burning fires & location. They remodelled it just after by extending out the back & creating a small courtyard beer garden which enhanced the setting. Basically it was the only pub I could take a girl that I knew wouldn't have some drunk muppet or chavvy regulars oggling the ladies. Unfortunately they're now catering to the lower end of the market & its heaving with blokes in Nickelson tops & ladies with soo discrete shoulder tattoos. Don't know if its the pub's fault or a general deterioration in the standards of the younger generation but these people don't know how to behave after a couple of pints. I had my 8 yr old nephews in the courtyard last summer & had to leave as the pissed up pikeys were swearing their heads off by the pool table.

Visited here on Sunday afternoon. Tribute and Courage Best were on offer at a hefty 3.55 and 3.45 respectively. Pub itself it quite decent and the punters in to watch the Chelski game on 3D TV were friendly enough.

I used to love the Kings Head and it was my local for years. Now it is an awful, filthy place with outrageously high prices. The toilets are shabby and stink. Friday nights are ruined by terrible live music.

It needs new management, a full refit and generally cleaning up. The prices need to come down seriously. Take a look at the Thames Court for a decent local Shepperton pub that is clean, comfortable and won't rip you off.

Having read the blurb about this pub I can only say what a shame as this was a genuinely great place to have beers and a cottage pie made my Maria in the kitchen.
To also think that Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Peter O'Toole, John Wayne, ABBA and hundreds of famous people used to drink here (admittedly in a different life time)to be replaced by chavs i find a little sad.
That said, with the Anchor, Warren Lodge and the Rose and Crown (if it is still there?) made a nice all day session in a lovely setting. Oh well...progress!

Right....now i'm confused!! Prior to visiting this pub for the first time on Friday 20th to see Firewater,i looked at the comments left on BITE....which i always do before visiting a new pub.I was a little unsure after reading the comments below, but as the band was good i thought we'd take a chance. Well i'm glad we did! Ok, we paid 3.40 for a Guinness....which was a good one,but you expect that from a pub of this style and in this location. Ok,towards the end of the evening a kids came in but once served they vanished out the back. The bar staff were pleasant and the locals we spoke to were very welcoming. All in all we had a good night...and yes ,we'll be back for another visit.
Stella_Fella - 22 Jun 2008 15:31
totally agree, pub is way too expensive for what you get, full of kids or locals with attitude.

shame, the only reason it attracts so many customers is that its one of the few pubs in Shep with Sky. the place has potential with its location

only go there if you are willing to spend 20 on 5 pints
gumbo10 - 6 Feb 2008 17:48
a pub plagued with locals who think they own the place

Great appearance from the outside, but reminded me of some of the youngster pubs you find in Newquay - i.e. for the undiscerning.

Tatty front bar with TV, and rear bar dominated by a pool table. Micro beer-garden at the back. Tables out front, but they do not catch the sun in the afternoon.

Lunchtime visit so nothing to comment on the clientele.

Service by a Student-type was OK, and the beer was passable.

Food was rubbish - the ploughman's was a block of rubber for cheese, and a couple of chunks of unsliced white bread.

OK for a pit stop on a pub crawl, but a better choice would be the Warren Lodge next door or the Anchor Hotel across the square from where you can better admire the exterior - the best bit about this pub.

Magellan - 17 Apr 2007 12:59
definately a youngsters pub and the prices.... well.....how can they afford it?
anonymous - 17 Nov 2006 21:04
PeteMeaden - have you tried the Warren Lodge hotel bar, 2 doors away from this pub? Now that's the place for a quiet drink (by the log fire, on a cold evening). Or there's some trendy bar around the corner, just up from Blubeckers restaurant (Edwins or something like that) have you tried there..? (It looked nice in passing..)! TJ

Very nice old historic pub in Shepperton square. I had a pint of Adnams which was ok but this is a very expensive pub.

I moved to Shepperton about five years ago and loved this pub. However, since this time I have seen it get worse and worse. Thursday to Saturday evenings it is usually full of (very)under age drinkers (some look about 12!) - predominantly sporting the latest "chav" clothing who all think they are being "classy" by drinking in such a nice old pub. This has ruined it in my opinion.
This pub is obviously steeped in history (1758?) but it seems to be suffering from the really dodgy clientele. The landlord has been there for a number of years and seems to leave the day to day running to the manager. The bar staff seem to change almost every time I've been in there. The bar manager seems to do his best to control the customers but he is fighting a losing battle. It also smells of fried food at the rear due to the proximity of the kitchen and poor extractors.
The bar prices are excessively high - probably the most expensive pub in Shepperton. I would willingly suffer this but the yobs really do ruin the place and I have pretty much stopped going there.
It either needs a change of owner or the landlord needs to get a grip.
(Still recommended for an afternoon drink or early in the week but otherwise forget it).

A good place in a charming location. Mind your head on the beams and beware of locals talking loudly about share prices.

This is an OK pub, but has some "interesting" clientele and the service is pants.
