user reviews of Cape, Sale

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Good atmosphere in the evenings, great music, average beer.
Main complaint is the bar service, lack of staff means you can be queueing for ages and that can put me off going in regularly.

Good night out, good atmosphere and plenty to look at if you know what I mean!
chippyb - 19 Apr 2009 20:21
Really poor service, which hasn't improved with the recent refurb and name change. Have been in a few times including when there've been very few other customers and always takes ages to get a pint.
lancscp1 - 23 Jan 2009 15:38
visited Sunday afternoon. Poor vegetarian food - tasteless veggie burger, veggie cooked to oblivion. No hand pumps. Boddingtons poor.

we visited the waterside on friday night and what can I say, what a top night! the door staff actually spoke to us as we entered and the bar staff were all really happy and friendly! We managed to buy a bottle of decent wine, not house crap like at the other bars in sale, for 10.90!!! bargain!!!! We've been a few times and the music has improved loads, 90's dance, what a break from scally crap and djs that can't mix (hogs head). I don't understand why people leave to go to amp bar, its overrated and full of idiots. All i've seen in there are fights and people i'd rather not mix with! The waterside is by far the best bar in sale- visit it if you can!!!!!!!

This was one of the best nights out that me and my girly friends have had in a long time. The music was brilliant with all funky 90's dance. The doorman were very polite and actually opened the doors for you! ok, we did have to wait about 10mins for something to drink but we were in peak time and theyve got some great offers on wine and vodka red bull. Dont know were theyve got this new managment but theyve turned it around, driving a lot of the scallys out and creating a much better vibe. Overall this is a great nite out and i would highly recomend cumming here

I don't understand the grievances people have with this place. I come in every week and not once have I had any problems. I find the staff friendly and good at their job, for the most, and completely understand where the management are coming from with the dress code. People complain about the clientele, but also about the dress code - if the dress code wasn't in place can you imagine what would be said then?! Those who find this pub a bit 'rough' chould try going to the Met bar, a watering hole in the truest sense of the word. All in all I really think this is one of the nicest places in Sale to go for a drink.
anonymous - 29 Jul 2006 14:07
This is the worst bar in sale by far, full of scallys and management/staff were just so rude! never seen service like it.. i suggest they get some decent staff in there that can learn some customer service skills! This bar used to be a quality night out but ever since this new management has taken over, its just gone down hill!! where the hell have they found this guy?!?!? I will never be returning to waterside again, along will all my other friends who were once regulars..! x

This place is an excellent nite out! great music, great drinks and cocktails, and great service speed and the barstaff are very friendly, and do some good tricks too.
GREAT NITE OUT!!!!!!!

I have to disagree with some of the comments on here! This pub is alright! Ok there are scallies in there but when it is busy the atmosphere is alright. The bar staff are ok althogh there are some who just don't smile. If you want a drink in a young atmosphere on a weekend evening then this is one of the places to go in Sale.
anonymous - 24 Mar 2006 18:26
Oh sweet merciful crap! This place is a hell-hole. Full of scallies, chavs and posers.

Overpriced drinks, no entertainments, poor service and a very bad vibe.
anonymous - 27 Feb 2006 09:51
It has got a bit rough in here now and it gets pretty full . They should take the Landlord from the Plough he would empty it , for sure..
blindbaby1999 - 10 Nov 2005 17:56
The WaterSHED! What can we say? We can't believe how in the last not even 2months this place has gone down hill. It's full of scalleys and this is a place myself and my friends used to enjoy going, but we have been tonight and we didn't stay for more than one drink.
In the last 6or7 weeks all the management have changed and most of the bar staff. Don't get me wrong the staff are still good, but not as good as the original team, and the mamangement.....well where is it. THE SCOUSERS have gone, we can't believe it. The guy that ran it and the tall scouse bird were top, without them and the bar staff the whole place has changed. There is no longer any atmosphere and the place is a dump.
You turn around and your surrounded by sted eads and scalls. We will not be going in there anymore and I think a lot of people think the same. WHAT A SHAME.
nevaumind - 21 Oct 2005 21:05
Im afraid I have to agree with all the comments regarding the Door staff - they not only need to smile and be pleasant they need to refrain from customer abuse that they find funny but others find insensitive and insulting.

The staff in my opinion are fairly quick at serving and are friendly - the blondes are actually nice girls so dont judge them as if you think about it they work EVERY weekend while their friends are out on a thurs/fri/sat/sun nights- I couldnt do!

I like the music and its easy to meet your mates before going to town here!

The Lads who work behind the bar only seem to want to serve people with large breasts I am a man and I want to be served when it is my turn . Not when there are no big boobs left.
blindbaby1999 - 7 Sep 2005 23:04
The staff seem to run a policy of being very inflexible about what they consider sportswear when it is not sportswear. They are also ingrained on company policy, a pleasant afternoon was ruined by their insistance that three quarter pants are sportwear. The pub itself seemed pleasant, unfornately the staff mess it up with their attitudes and inflexible company policy.

This could be a nice pub but it is not thanks to the stupidy of the management.
anonymous - 20 Jun 2005 21:41
hi i think the pub is very nice the staff r gud , the manager seems 2 like alot of young girls in there (weardo). the doorstaff r nice specally the tall bald head guy he's very nice with every1 he's always smiling . the rest r ok aswell, they keep the trouble out ,thats a gud thing around sale the rest of the pubs n bars around sale r shitholes
anonymous - 8 Jun 2005 15:50
This has to be the best place in Sale by far. The only problem is that the blonde's behind the bar seem to love them selves too much. I think they must think that they are J Lo's. The class collectors are excellent at there jobs and keeps things tidy. The manager must have deep pockets as he is always by young girls drinks. The doorman do there job very well as they keep the unwanted element out. The only bad word I have about the doorman is that they need to smile a bit more and chill with the attitude. All in all a must see and visit place in Sale.
anonymous - 18 May 2005 21:19
THIS BAR HAS BEEN OPEN JUST OVER A YEAR AND NEVER ONCE HAVE I SEEN ANY TROUBLE. WHICH MAKES A NICE CHANGE AS THE REST OF THE PUBS IN SALE ARE LIKE BOXING RINGS ! THEY PLAY NICE UP TO DATE MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND AND THE SETTING MAKES YOU FEEL AT EASE.
THE DRINKS PRICES ARE WHAT YOU WOULD EXCEPT FROM A NICE PLACE LIKE THIS RIP OFF !!!!! BUT I RATHER PAY MORE AND ENJOY MY NIGHT OUT. THERE ARE A LOT OF REGULARS IN HERE WHICH CAN BE ANNOYING AT TIMES AS YOU KEEP SEEING THE SAME FACES AND CLOTHES ! IT IS WAY THE BEST BAR IN SALE AND WELL WORTH COMING ! MY HAT GOES OFF TO THE MANAGEMENT FOR KEEPING THE PLACE RUNNING AS GOOD AS IT IS, HOWEVER MY ADVISE TO THEM IS TO EXPLAIN TO THE DOORSTAFF THAT THE CUSTOMERS PAY THE WAGES AND MAYBE A POLITE SMILE AND A HELLO WOULD BE MORE APPROPIATE THEN THE COMMENTS THEY COME OUT WITH I KNOW THERE HAVING A LAUGH WHICH IS GREAT FUN AT TIMES BUT NOT ALL THE TIME ! SO GUYS DONT TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY BUT BE NICE TO US WERE GIRLS !!
anonymous - 22 Apr 2005 15:13
Pub is great when the bouncers arnt working if you ask me they need to get new ones that do their jobs properly rather than insulting customers that they actually have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
anonymous - 14 Jan 2005 16:13
Masacre in there the other week! (Dec 04) 3 psyco decided to smash the place up on a wednesday (8pm) One smashed a mirror with his fist, greabbed a large piece of the broken glass and started waving it about at people!Chairs and tables were thrown, along with what seemed to be an endless supply of pint pots. Management plus staff were useless and did nothing!Lasted for about 15 mins, before the culprits ran off towards Sale Met station, leaving over half of the watersides customers covered in blood caused by all the thrown glass etc. There seemed to be blood everywhere! One guy was lying slumped against the wall outside covered in blood. Don't get how the management or staff didn't see it coming. Don't they look at the people who come throught their doors!?The police respoce time wasn't great-even though sale Police station is over the road from the back of the Waterside! It's a waste of space! They should of built a Cinema,or another police station to accompany Sale's 'part time' station!
anonymous - 11 Jan 2005 00:55
First impressions on this place were - too expensive and music played far too loud. OK for Club 18-30 crowd. Why do people insist in encouraging these scoundrels by paying the over inflated prices they charge for drinks? There are far better watering holes in Sale than this. They won't see a brass farthing of mine.
DJ_Dobber - 2 Jan 2005 16:07
Nice, clean, good beer, great food. No bouncers at all when we went.
Nige - 30 Dec 2004 20:09
OVER RATED , I THINK IT IS A BIT OVER PRICED AND IT IS QUITE SMALL ALSO IT CAN BE A BIT SNOOTY IN THERE , ID RATHER GO A DRINK SOM WHERE I CAN RELAX.
BECKIE - 15 Nov 2004 12:29
Disageree with alot of the comments added but can see some peoples point.

the doormen are extremely insulting and rude - if it were my bar they would be dismissed immeadiately - you cant talk to customers in that manner it doesnt show professionism or customer care!

not too keen on the state of the toilets either they are a big let down!

food is nice, the general pub is nice and the clientelle is ok i havent seen any trouble yet.

i will continue to go there until somewhere better with 1 shots opens.
Female Regular - 17 Sep 2004 12:53
Not very impressed - dress code is ridiculous - especially when the competition (Kings Ransome) has no dress code and a better atmosphere. Agree with previous points about the scallies though!
Salian - 7 Sep 2004 12:09
I agree with angry, the door policy is a complete joke. We went at 6.30pm, dressed smartly, my husband had 3/4 trousers and was denied access - you have to bear in mind the weather and position, this policy is ridiculous. Yes I can understand trainers - but 3/4 length trousers? We won't be going there again!
Disappointed - 7 Sep 2004 09:15
I find the dress code policy utterly preposterous. On a hot summer's day the pub was quite happy to take my money for drinks and food. However, from 6.00pm I was told to leave because I was wearing 3/4 length trousers. Forgetting the fact that a group of 6 of us had spent over 120 pounds on food and drink, then to be told to leave was quite frankly, disgraceful.

If I had been trying to gain entry to the pub at 8.00pm then I would expect a dress policy to be in force. But having spent over 3 hours outside the pub relaxing on a hot day, by the river, wearing summer clothes and then to be told leave left me feeling angry.

I, along with other members of the public who were wearing summer clothes, then hopped over the canal to enjoy the rest of the summer evening at the King's Ransom.

My advise, give this place a wide bearth as they obviously do not want your custom.
Angry - 6 Sep 2004 16:40
This pub started off well but is now just where all the scallies from the Hogs Head have moved to, especially the girls with the micro skirts and 80s fashions. Also where the old scallies from JP Joules go to when they are 'poshing it'. Horrid on a match day as even though they don't hsow footy all the crowds of men go in after, stand around shouting at all the girls in there and kicking fruit machines.
That said, the food is really nice, only twice have they lost my order which is not bad for a place like that!!
Rebecca - 6 Sep 2004 15:31
Beer is allrite but a bit pricey, basically its just another wine bar pub. Just the 17 in sale town centre now then. Worth going in here though as Rod Stewart works behind the bar!
Harvey - 15 Jun 2004 17:25
Usual chain pub.

Same interior as hogshead/slug & lettuce type places.

Pop music but refreshing lack of kids in there.

Expensive, beer isn't up to much and the staff seem to have never worked in a pub before this place opened.
dpm - 1 May 2004 05:53
Not as good as i expected - bit boring but we all meet up in there on a friday. Was great in hot weather - we were sat outside last weekend and it was heaving! Age group definatley varies and the dress code a relaxed.(trainers allowed)
amy - 27 Apr 2004 12:43
Newly opened.

Attached to Sale Town Hall/Civic Theatre.

On the main road for the pub area I.E in front of the Railway pub, next to the Kings Ransom over the road from the Hogshead and 2 minutes from J P Joules and The Met, so a nice simple bar crawl is possible.

Inside nice classy interior, leather sofas and booths, wooden flooring etc. nice bar area friendly staff.

Does have a quiz machine and serves food.

Plays up to date music in the background.

Age group varies.

Strictly over 18 if you look younger than 21 you will get asked for ID (no matter how short r low your skirts and tops are girls! Or how much stubble you have lads.)

Dress code smart/casual - I can tell you its definitely no sportswear (i.e. trainers and tracksuits)

Nice place to start off before town.
