Came in here early last Saturday to see if the do real ale.
They do from 3 hand pulls 2 for Doom Bar and 1 for Tim Taylors Landlord.
I went for the Doom bar which was a bit warmish and cost £2.30.

First off - I do work at this pub....

I accept all the comments people have said, most people grumble about getting served at the bar - it's true sometimes the dont always get it right when it comes to who was next, but they do try bless 'em. At least we try to find pretty girls and boys for you to look at while you wait (choose your flavour, no-ones judging you...)

But one comment on here is VERY unfair and borders on slander. Regarding a handbag theft. She came to the bar and told me handbags had been stolen, I told her to immediately call the police, offering her the use of our phone, (it's normally more efficient for the victim to report it as all personal details can be given). I suugested she cancel or bar all her bank cards straight away. She had already borrowed a phone from a friend and had it in her hand when we spoke though, so she DECLINED using our phone. I had seen two people near the area she and her friends were drinking, and took it upon myself to RUN to as many pubs in the area as i could, to see if they were there. I gave descriptions to staff in 2 other venues, and enlisted a local doorman who happened to be in the street to check a couple more pubs with me. When i got back to the pub, the experience was taking its toll on the poor lass, and an army of friends were consoling her, making it hard to talk to her about the situation. I gave my card to one of her friends and advised that the CCTV tape would be made available to the police. I sympathise completely with her for her terrible experience, but am disappointed that she chose to blame me for it. She even tried to get the police to take action against me! Even if i hadn't dropped everything and gone searching for the criminals, advised her what to do and saved the CCTV tape for the police, I wonder just what laws I was supposed to have broken.

I discussed the matter with the police licensing department who are confident that i did everything i could, and more, for this bitter, bitter individual.

I was out with friends last week and a couple of our handbags were stolen. The place was reasonably empty, and the theft was noticed immediately and witnessed by many. Having spoken to the manager, no contact details were taken to follow up, he refused to look at the CCTV footage and insisted I call the police myself even though I had my mobile and money stolen and no means to make the call.
This does not comply with legal requirements of the premises (i am a licencee myself), so be careful !

You can buy a membership card thing for 2 that will get you money off beers. By the time you've bought 3 or 4 drinks you've made your money back. Bonus. The barmaids in here are pretty lush, it's true. They are however not the most motivated of workers i've ever seen. Trad pub grub is not bad. It's more of a lager bar than an ale pub but it's a decent size with 2 bar levels and big screens plus comfy sofas. Good for pre & post-match boozing (up the Saints!). Last time I was in there I heard a lot of sniffing and snorting coming from behind one of the locking, full length toilet cubicle doors. And then out walked noe of the bouncers! Maybe he had a cold?

One of the classier student joints in the area. Food's nice and not pricey, general layout is good, can lack in atmosphere sometimes, but good for a fun night out most nights and a comfy chilled afternoon.

hear! hear! about the bar staff not being able to understand the concept of queuing! I was elbowed aside by Southamptons answer to Michelle McManus, and the blonde at the bar didnt bat an eyelid. Full of students talking their usual pseudo-intellectual rubbish. Not the worst place, but too many mirrors.

Good beer, cheap food, let down by appalling bar service. The bar staff seem unable or unwilling to work out the order for serving people at the bar. Getting served is a bit of a lottery even at quiet times.

Decent well-priced food. Very busy on weekends. Fit barmaids.

ALways included in our pub crawl, the food is good( go for the chicken burger) and drinks are good prices if you use you card.

Only Varsity in the south of england, apart from Cardiff. Always sport being shown, but the loudness is not good for conversations. Food is not bad, female bar staff very friendly and often students. Aimed at students and/or rugby teams looking to poke as many potential bed partners as possible.
