user reviews of the Old Crown, Edenbridge

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Bit too gloomy insde and in need of a spring clean. Weirdly they had run out of beer when I last visited (and Gin) but that was a couple of months ago. Courtyard out back populated by smokers, some of the B&B rooms overlook this area so they probably get a bit noisy.

We stayed there one Saturday night. The room was excellent. Clear, bright and tidy. Breakfast the next day was very good and all in all we did far better, and for less money, than we would have in a Travelodge or similar.

I can't say what it's like as a boozer as we went to a party on the Saturday night and apart from a quick pint when we arrived, didn't drink there, but as a place to stay I'd recommend it every time.

looks like a nice old rustic country pub when you first walk in but the plastic table cloths make it look like a 70's greasy spoon diner. Food was cheap and good. Beer... well, Pedigree ran out and was off anyway, Guinness then ran out which left Ringwood old Thumper at 5.6%, hmmm.

The Crown is a nice pub with a cosy atmosphere. The decor is sort of rustic and olde worlde which adds a bit of character. I have been there quite a few times on a Friday lunchtime and I must say that I enjoy it. There is a nice beer garden out the back, although it is all paved with no grass it is still comfy. I always get good cheerful service from the bar staff, especially from Karen, who always has time for a smile and hello for the customers. All in all I would recommend this pub for a visit.

Don't know much about the previous history of this pub but didn't think much of it when walked in. Everybody just stopped what they were doing and just stared..! Not much in the way of ale and very dirty and dusty inside. Passed a skip full of old smelly mattresses on the way in. And the front door was boarded up.. don't know why I came in here actually.. left and quickly found the very lovely leicester arms in penshurst..

And if Henna75 isn't Nancy Heath then it's Sarah or Alison.

I was in the Crown last Saturday night and to my delight i did not see Nancy Heath. Thats because she's too busy trying to put the pub down on this website disguised as Henna75. Well Nancy, you nasty piece of work, everybody now knows it's you so if i where you i'd be worried. Do us all a favour, dissapear from Edenbridge before you do damage that you won't recover from.

I have been using The Crown for the past 4 years, I am a business man and stay at the crown about once a month, the rooms are comfortable and always very clean with lovely soft towels. I always have breakfast and dinner when I stay and I find that the food is very good home cooked food and that the owners and the staff are very friendly and welcoming, I noted a comment about the pub being scruffy and rundown, I have not found this and I am still using the pub. I feel The Crown has a great ambience and great character with its old world charm. I can only say that I stay all over England in boring hotels and country inns similar to The Crown but none of them are a patch on The Crown for its food, accomodation and hospitality. Wonderful place I would just like to mention Shaz the owners daughter who is a manager and helps run the place is a fabulous young person who puts her heart and soul into the place and is a credit to her parents, I say up The Crown.

this pub is by far the best pub in edenbridge because no pikeys drink in it like the other pubs in edenbridge, it has great bands that play every saturday night which brings a great atmopshere to the pub,(it's about the only pub in edenbridge thats alive with people in it!) plus good ales that seem to be kept well, with a new guest ale almost every week!
the food is to a high standard also as i went there last sunday for a roast with my family and it was all home cooked and very tastey! love this pub can't get enough of it!

I must say that of all the pubs in Edenbridge, this one has to be the most popular. Live music almost every weekend, a good selection of beers and lagers, and a great menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you have read the comments below, all i can say is go there yourself and experience the friendly atmosphere that is present from both customers and the lovely Irish family that run the place. If it's as bad as this person says, how comes you can't move in the place when there's entertainment on at the weekend? Says it all really.........

I'm a local of Edenbridge, and i've been told that they're trying to run the pub down so that they can buy it cheap from the brewery. Village gossip? Go inside, and have a look around, i think it's pretty close to the truth actually.

It's very cliquey, you can feel all eyes on you when you walk inside. it doesn't make you feel comfortable. I was in there on saturday night, they had a disco and a fight. NICE! One to stay away from....

This pub used to be good, but has gone downhill. it could do with a tidy up and a fresh coat of paint, it's generally quite grubby. The menu hasn't changed in years, it's just very basic pub grub. There are other pubs in the town that do much better food - such as the King and Queen and The Old Eden. try these first and then compare.....

I note previous review mentioning Harvey's but on my visit this gave the impression of a Marstons tied house offering Pedigree, Burton Bitter, & Old Empire. I'm often a little sceptical believing Marstons not to be the best of travellers, but the Burton was fine. Pub has Ye Olde look outside not necessarily reflected inside, although there is an enormous fireplace just off the bar area (unlit on this occasion). Some characters chatting around bar, chalk board menu looked pretty good although I didn't see diners, coffee machine in front bar, reception/accommodation out back.

A nice pub steeped in tradition.Good selection of ales with an excellent menu.

Local historians will tell of when King Henry VIII drank here on his way through many moons ago. For that I think the oak beams and old and rustic fireplaces and fittings are, erm very old. Does good range of food and the barmaids are friendly. I think the best in Edenbridge for sure.

Moved into Edenbridge recently so I've been trying the local pubs.
I've been in here twice.
It's is a decent enough pub but the interior doesn't really live up to the exterior's (ye olde type) promise.
The beer however, (Harvey's Sussex and Grasshopper) has been good on both occasions.

My main gripe though is the (now obligatory) piped music pop music which is FAR TOO LOUD!

Not bad, good cider and ales. Nice inside and outside courtyard is good in summer.

Brick and dark wood walled with large fireplace but wooden beams look false. Busy but pseudo atmosphere.
My mate commented 'Not cheap but probably popular with estate agents'
