user reviews of the Greyhound, Beeston

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Tends to open later than other pubs in Beeston, which makes it good for finishing off a crawl. Beer is fairly varied, but pretty expensive. Lots of live music and open mic nights. Seems to attract a 'Rock-Soc' kind of crowd, which isn't necessarily a bead thing.

The Grey Hound's gone from a good venue to a great venue.
Paul the landlord has great taste in music and beer. They have about five real ales, the best by far is the Absolution or ASBO as it's become known, at 5.? abv it's plain to see why.
Tuesday nights open mic night was brilliant (the night I visited). I've seen some great bands there and the Nottingham Blues Society have put on a few good turns.
Good beer and free music what more do you want?

A grim dark hole on Beeston High Road. Has live music regularly of the rock grunge genre so is popular with students - probably great if you like that sort of thing.

I have sat back and watched with sadness as this venue has fallen into the cltuches of the cliques.

The venue as a whole is by far the best in the area with a high standard of bands...(Can't fault them on this point).

The open mike night (every Tuesday) is bay far the best in the whole of Nottingham, Very friendly and always up for a laugh.

The jam session (every Sunday afternoon) has fallen to the clique brigade.
I have watched with great sadness as the clique set in.
Very unfair allocation of stage time to musicians not in their clique, Sometimes resulting in many people who have waited all afternoon to play not being allowed.

The only saving grace to this Sunday farce is a very talented man (Whom I have noted has been given a very bad deal) who will play with any musician (no matter how bad they are) He still holds the value of fun to music ratio.
I do believe there is a little jealousy towards him by other so called musicians as he has the ability to comunicate with the crowd and at the same time make his fellow musicians feel special while on the stage.
He deserves better than these clowns.

The house band in contrast will only back those in their clique and if they are unfortunate enough to be placed in a position where they have to play with someone who is far more talented then they are they always make the mistake in trying to out-play or drown-out the guest act.

COME ON GREYHOUND...
You once had it all going for you.....Do not end up like the Running horse by letting these arogant fools wreck your venue.....
You pay them so you tell them what is needed if they do not earn their pay then replace them.(Too many people are not attending already)(Do something before it is too late).

seeing as it is now mostly frequented by rock dudes, please give me the job of decorating, it is too bright and has no proper feel to the place. It needs to be darker, gothed up a bit, more rocky...who paints the walls in a pub...white?

Now under new management, no druggies, no a**eholes, live music most nights, mainly rock, metal, punk, indie etc.

This pub is great in the evenings IF you like mixing with under-age drugged up morons. Not a place the average person would enjoy visiting!

My mother and I have regularly stopped here for a meal whilst shopping in Beeston on a Saturday, however today whilst my mother went to the bar to place a food & drinks order I was very rudely accosted by a member of their staff as I nipped to the loo! Said bar man hailed me with 'oy you' and 'are you actually buying a drink?' to which I replied we were in fact buying two meals.

In a now robotic fashion the staff member repeated 'ARE you buying a drink' clearly not trained well enough to realise at lunch time the eating customer is where the profits lie. My response at this stage was to indicate both food and drink would now be purchased elsewhere.

As we left the words 'silly cow' followed us out of the pub.

Will we ever return?

NEVER!

Been here for lunch a few times, and it's amazingly cheap. Not really spent much time in it otherwise, but it seems OK.

This pub is my local, and it is fab. It has all the qualities of a local, but also of a town pub. There are discos and karaoke etc, as well as darts, pool etc. The pub also attracts students as the university is close by. It has recently had a refurb and now has an added retro function room. Very cool pub.
