A gem in an otherwise pub-free area. Friendly staff, good beers (of all kinds) but Greene King IPA and Abbot always a treat. Some good guest ales too. Really good food as well.

Always a bit reticent of going a pub with loads of England flags outside, though found out later they're there to promote the 6 Nations so fair enough!

Not a bad selection of ales at all, and Speckled Hen on tap which was a nice touch. A good sized pub and very busy for a Thursday evening thanks to the football and the pub quiz.

This area is a bit of a desert for pubs so good to see a decent boozer.

Large pub that seems to be a mix of family and locals, beer I had was Wimbledon Brewery Tower which was very nice. Does Sunday roasts and bowls of chips, that kind of thing.

Not a very nice pub I found it to be a very clicky pub with most of the regulars from the Emma Hamilton pub which used to be just along the road, the bar staff are not at all friendly and almost seem not to want to serve you. There appears to be a drug connection going on,on some nights which is not acceptable wont be using this for a meeting place in the future.

As a local I have to say that since the new landlord (Autumn 2013?) has taken over that
things have drastically gone done hill- the new menu, while looking
fancier involved a decease in the food quality, the old friendly staff have been replaced
by snickering, rude and unhelpful ones, the kitchen has become unreliable with
Simple things like a portion of chips taking an hour to arrive or food just never arriving.
Any complaint on any point involves the staff shrugging shoulders unwilling or unable to
help.

Unfortunately we like most of our neighbours won't be darkening this pubs door
again.

continues to be a good pub, friendly staff, cheap edible food and TV screens for football.
Only 3 tap beers, but usually selection of Doombar, Youngs best, Adnams, Black Sheep, Speckled Hen.

OK place. Apparently, the identified that Emma Hamilton locals and made sure they didn't come here when the EH closed last year - good initiative!

I like this pub. The staff are always friendly and helpful and beer well kept. I had a very nice pint (or two) of Pride. Recommended.

Pleasant enough place to have a beer apart from when the Karaoke is on on a Friday night.. not sure if it still is.
jameswimbledon - 21 Nov 2009 19:08
My friends recommended me to try this pub and since I went for the first time, I have been back there five times and the meals deals are brilliant. It is good value for money and the staff are friendly. For those people like myself who is confined to a wheelchair, it is very wheelchair friendly with good parking and has a large accessible disabled toilet.
wheelspj - 1 Apr 2009 13:22
If you think this is a good place to drink your name is Scott Mather, I went in for a pint and caught him running round the pub with his top off shouting "I am a turnip". Avoid

We went to the quiz night last night, my friends had been before and told me about it,I kinda knew i'd enjoy it, and i did, immensely. The quiz is a must, it's hard but not so hard you feel daft, and hard enough to make you feel a bit intelligent. It's all done in an informal manner, not at all stuffy, great fun.Nice pub, going next week for sure, we came third so have made a quiz pact.
Try it, you'll love it if you like a quiz but dont want the pressure that they can bring. enjoy

Great pub and great people both behind the bar and infront of it - recommended.
Margaret_L - 2 Dec 2008 13:46
Decent boozer-type pub - fun quiz on a Thursday night, dreadful karaoke on a Friday. 2 pool tables where you can usually get a game

Barn like and the food was 'chips with everything'. Cheap though, in all senses of the word.
chick - 16 Aug 2008 15:30
Great pub. Beer, tequila shots, sambuca shots, friendly barmaids. What more do you need?
sergio22 - 8 Aug 2007 15:15
Quite a nice pub, quite a variety of people there.

The foosball table is a Garlando Coperto Deluxe, glass-top, 1 for 9 balls, in fairly good condition.
nooj - 19 Mar 2007 22:21
NEVER VISITED SUCH A RUBBISH PUB WITH SUCH A CRAP ATMOSPHERE IN ALL MY LIFE. FOUND IT BORING AND THE BAR STAFF RUDE. WINE CHEAP THOUGH
yay - 15 Nov 2006 17:31
Went there for the quiz the other week with some mates - didn't win but good fun! I'd recommend this pub as it's relaxed & the staff are friendly and the food was good too. Drinks weren't too expensive either.
heatherhh - 15 Oct 2006 02:12
this pub still gets a 10/10 because its a great pub, great prices, great punters and great beer! But like all barra's pubs the 2for1 food offer has now finished which is a real shame! the new offer is 2 for 8 which is good - just not as good as 2 for 1!
anonymous - 25 Apr 2006 20:50
friendly staff, nice pub overall, pool tables, dart board and large screen is good for chilling out, food is very good, a great pub
gazh - 30 Jan 2006 11:03
Hi, loving the 2 for 1 offer on food - great for a cheap night out with mates and a good chatter. Nice roomy pub with great atmosphere. Have enjoyed several visits and would recommend.

Great pub. Superb for watching the footie and the new band night that has just started (I was there on 1st October) is really good. Cant reccomend it enough, three excellent live bands played, each was different from the last which kept things interesting and it was free entry. I also caught one of the acoustic acts, who was great too.

So many venues rip you off charging too much to get into in London, then the bands are crap. This was a breath of fresh air and I will be going back to for the music if not the football because the atmosphere for the England game (vs Austria) when I went back this week was blinding.

There are pool tables, giant Jenga/connect 4, good food and nice people, not to mention sexy girls! What more does this man want...nothing!

My new favourite boozer! x

I'm ashamed/proud to say it was me that wrote over "gay boys" in the urinal. I was drunk, and my friends badgered me into it.
I quite like the refit, it's just the same old place but cleaner, lighter and more comfortable. And they bring you your food on a mat! Not sure about the leather chairs though.
anonymous - 19 Jun 2005 19:47
Recently refurbished... no different, just smells of paint. Someone even thoughtfully rewrote 'gay boys' in the urinals after the new ones were put in. Comforting in the fact that it never changes and is always full of the same old faces. Long live the Leather Bottle, haven for all those who avoid the Emma Hamilton
anonymous - 11 Jun 2005 20:03
Was an OK pub 14 years ago with 2 separate bars areas, 1 accommodating local bands.

However, the refurb undertaken in '93 was badly advised, and destroyed any character it once had.

Avoid.

Benny_Boy - 2 Mar 2005 13:42
you do not go to a pub for food and if you do i think you would be impressed by the food offered here, the service is also superb, with 2 pool tables (inc 1 full size) a table football, 2 big tvs and a dartboard not to mention the jukebox theres allways something to do in this pub. its also great for a quite drink, was impressed to see a none smoking area.

VERY GOOD

WOULD RECCOMEND TO ALL

10 OUT OF 10!!

GO THERE!!
anonymous - 20 Feb 2005 13:57
Leather Steak too, the foods really bad. Grubby, dark and dirty. Ok to watch the football, but you wouldn't want to take your missus there.
Mr_smiler - 20 Jan 2005 16:03
I like this place. Pop in when in area. Cheap prices are brilliant 3.60 for two pints of Carlsberg cant be wrong. Used to be very dirty but slighty better now but who cares pubs are'nt meant to be buckingham palace. Do remember a lovely indiain barmaid here once or could be just imagining it

I have been drunk in this pub for many years now. As far as i am aware it is a good pub, as are the people only i can't remember their names.
The Manageress is cool & the assistant Manager well what can i say apart from the fact he is a Geordie.Ha Ha Gavin.
Sweet Leaf ROCK so do the ginger people, but the toilets stink.
scott - 27 Aug 2004 14:47
I used to drink in this place in the early nineties when Martin Steele and Pig were around. For me it was a rite of passage with my friends Marco, Giles, Brian, Colin, Will, Gian, Nathan, Tom, Marco Cass and other young fans of booze.
I don't remember what the interior was like because I kept getting I.D'd but I do remember that the green outside, on a summer's evening, wasn't unpleasant.
Mark - 3 Aug 2004 16:31
this place has been my local for over 10 years purely because of location and friends. Its been dirty and dishevelled for ages, but a new manager is gradually improving it. kareoke is a bit tired now, but some good bands play here especially Sweetleaf who are probably the best band in the area. Food can be hit and miss but is pretty good for the price. Better pub than the chav infested disco pubs of Wimbledon or the nearby asylum that is the Emma Hamilton.....
daniel - 28 Jul 2004 10:56
This pub is dirty, falling apart, beer tastes horrible, food looks pretty bad. Best thing they could do with this place is sell it to property developers.
Oli - 25 Jul 2004 08:34
Very tired looking - staff not terribly friendly. I live in Merton Park. Does anyone drink?
NY Will - 26 May 2004 17:00
It's a good local. Nothing special. Just a bunch of college kids and locals, but not a bad place.
Erin - [email protected] - 13 Apr 2004 20:43
I was amazed when a pub chain took over this pub and the nearby Raynes Park Tavern (and several others not too far away) and did them up in the same mock Victorian manner with the same inexpensive (but extremely poor) menu.

Now 10 years later the pubs seem to be in dire need of refurbishment and have become well... somewhat seedy.
Martin - 10 Mar 2004 12:57
Good local pub. not a bad selection of beers and lots going on, from a quiz-night on Thursdays, Karaoke on Fridays and usually a band on Saturdays. Food is good and inexpensive.
John Haithwaite - 18 Nov 2003 15:31
Ok bit like Raynes Park Tavern a bit dirty. Is Fatima Whitbread graffiti still in the bogs?
Born in Nelson Hospital - 29 Oct 2003 13:42
bit of a local and needs a new look. Nothing cool
JP - 24 Oct 2003 11:53
could not agree more with the refurb comments...and if you want your car vandalised by kids there is no better place to go
thetruth - 6 Oct 2003 15:08
they will never get round to refurbing it as it makes a lot of money for Barras without them having to spend a penny. Term time=next to art college and all other times attracts hardcore alcoholics who wouldn't fit in up wimbledon+they can bring in their kids after school
dave - 6 Oct 2003 14:41
If they're going to refurbish it, they should return it to the glory of circa 1991-2.
dsf - 6 Oct 2003 14:22
Okay I used to work here, and I defy anyone to find toilets in worse condition in Wimbledon. The ceiling leaks, the big screen is broken. There is rarely 2 usable cues for pool. The food is awful (you should see the kitchen) and it is always understaffed. It is in desperate need of refurbishment and is populated by terminal alcoholics and art students.Prices are nowhere near as cheap as its neighbours and the beer is of poor quality, the furnishing and fittings are in a terrible state and the outdoor seating is on the main road. If you are over18 or accustomed to good service and hygiene-avoid.
thetruth - 6 Oct 2003 13:54
Too true - this place has everything you need, whether you're after a quiet midweek bevoir or you're setting up camp all day sunday after a large one the night before. And there's tons of space, places to sit, sofas - perfect for resting those tired legs. And a nice selection of crisps too.
tim - 23 Sep 2003 13:29
Great pub. 2 pool tables, dart board, 2 big screens + TV, karaoke once a week, live music, quiz machine, cheap booze, cheap food, friendly atmosphere. Come on, what else do you want?!
