Was pleasantly surprised by this place. Never knew the place existed until someone recommended. Decently size pub with large beer garden. Pool tables juke box ect. The beer lets it down slightly as only john smiths on pull. Although i had nice bottle of bombadier with my mate having a newcy brown, both coming to a little over a 5er. Agreed its a student pub but when i popped in for a friday dinner pint it had a nice vibe. Well worth a look

Our regular watering hole when on an away day at Villa Park. Nothing special about the place but probably the best of a poor bunch in that area.

This was called the Wellhead when I was at Brum Poly in the eighties. Used to serve a very good pint of bitter and had tow distinct bars, with the off duty bus drivers congregating in the public bar with the stone-flagged floor.

From more recent reviews, it seems to have gone to the dogs!

intimidated by bouncers. they wouldnt let us leave the pub and refused to tell us why.

They want our student drinking when its quiet but we are second class citizens when the footballs on.

Avoid

OK, served quickly, good pint and topped up without asking.

I don't care how many 'zany' monickers the bar staff have (yes they are friendly - or at least were on my last visit in Sept 07), this is a God awful chain place with no soul. Beer is ok, but very average fayre.

I used to use it when I worked at UCE as it was on Campus, but...er.....that's about it. And it takes ages to get served food - even when the place is empty and just open - at 12pm!

Back when I was at UCE, it used to be a Firkin and was astonishingly expensive for a student place. Anyone moaning about it should be grateful you now get cheap beer and don't have to go all the way over to the Crown and Cushion!

i loved this place but there has been a slow decline in the friendly atmosphere. The food has become poor because they never seem to have the full menu on offer. Even at 1 o'clock in the afternoon... I wish the pub could be the way it was a year ago!

used to be a great pub til new manager took over. He is rude to all customers, closes pub at weird hours so now customers have to go for a drink some where else which is a pain in this lovely weather!
