Passed by the other day and it was boarded up.
Is it closed or being refurbished?

Full range of Sheps which on Sunday included Spitfire, Master Brew, Kent's Best and Late Red. Can't add much to Roger B's description. Worth a look in if you like the beer.

We came here specifically to see the legendary Jackie Lynton Band a few months back expecting to find a typically bruised and batterd music pub but I was pleasantly surprised that the place still retains much of its 17th Century charm. Now part of the Shepherd Neame arsenal, the 3 Ales were all pretty decent (Spitfire, Porter and Kents Best) and no rip off prices to be found despite being a music venue for the evening (with free admission). The main bar has a low beamed ceiling, lattice windows, a fine brick fireplace and a huge square table that looks fit for a medieval banquet. A collection of pewter tankards adds to its historic feel. To the left of the bar is a pool area that gets shunted to one side when the pub becomes the Scratchers music venue for the night, the slightly raised front section doubling up as the stage. At the rear is a darts area which is raised and offers a reasonable view of the bands on occasions when getting anywhere near the front is impossible, as it was our night. Service was very good considering how busy it was and overall I was quite impressed with the place but if you are just looking for a quiet place for a pint on a Saturday night, then the music side of things will be quite intrusive.

Excellent pub, good ale selection, friendly bar staff, cosy atmosphere. Highly recommended.

The music is good, the atmosphere ok, and the lager horrible.

I think this pub is an acquired taste I dont have.

This pub is also called Scratchers, which can be very confusing! Has live music Saturday night. Seems like a pub that has a sense of community rather than just being a commercial establishment. Currently selling the seasonal Early Bird ale which is more than worth a try. Will give a rating of 10/10 as I can't think of anything bad about it!

GREAT PUB, GREAT STAFF, GREAT LANDLORD. AFTER MOVING AWAY FROM THIS AREA I AM MISSING THIS PUB HUGELY. I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO A SEE TO LIVE BANDS ON A WEEKEND OR EVEN FOR A QUIET PINT DURING THE WEEK. IT IS SUCH A SHAME THAT EVERY YEAR THEY HAVE TO BATTLE TO KEEP THIER MUSIC LISENCE DUE TO LOCAL RESIDENTS COMPLANING ABOUT THE NOISE. EVEN THOUGH THEY PROBABLY MOVED TO THE AREA LONG AFTER THE PUB HAD A LIVE MUSIC LISENCE.

Great pub with a great atmosphere with live bands on over the weekend. When the bands themselves publically announce that it is an absolute pleasure to play there and beg the landlord Neil to have them back - you need not really add anything else - except go there. Music usually on Sat & Sun and its FREE.

I saw the Will Shackleton band at this pub last night 20/09/04
what a great band!! only a three piece but what a massive sound 3 great players but if anyone else wached this gig where can you find a bass player like that playing at a pub, barry pethers he is not only so cool on stage but as funky as hell by far the best i have seen in a long time him will and the drummer just all bounce off each other what a fun band to watch

Friendly pub. Free Blues music on Saturday and Sunday. Really good line ups and it gets really busy. Yes Smokey (there are extractors), but not helped by the local residents complaining about the noise - hence all doors and windows have to be shut when music is on...

This pub is not bad although, the biggest gripe I have about this establishment is that it is incredibly SMOKY! Why the hell whilst I am out enjoying a couple of drinks, the atmosphere etc. do I have to breathe in tons of noxious fumes and breathe in the equivilent of 40 Marlboro's. Come on, landlord, get some smoke extractors and use them before everyone gets lung cancer....
