Walked a couple of miles to this place on the recommendation of the welcome pack in the place we were staying, only to find it's really a poncy restaurant, not a pub and a big sign on the door saying no dogs allowed. As there were 5 of us, but I wasn't especially hungry, I offered to walk back with the dogs and let the other 4 eat. The fact that no-one was bothered about going back later in the week told me all I needed to know.

I've seen a few changes to this place over the years and its now definitely a restaurant. The bar is really only for residents of the hotel part or for diners enjoying a pre-meal drink. Go in with six mates for a session and I'm sure that the response will be polite but firm. A bit of a shame as the beer is superb and comes from a micro brewery just down the road (Bays). Given that the emphasis is on dining you would expect high quality for both food and service and you wouldn't be dissappointed. On Sunday its roasts only but we came away happy and if you are a train sado like me you'll like the location too.

Very much a restaurant now and really not suitable if you just want a pint or three.

Beer kept in good condition, a bit pricey, not into the modern decor feels a bit sterile.

This has recently been taken over and is now more a restaurant than a pub, you can still get a drink there but it is not cheap.

Lovely friendly pub serving good quality food and a variety of real ales. Situated by the steam railway station.

RThe pub is under new management. Banished sre the pool table and frruit machine. Real ales and great food are the order of the day. The same chef is there, thank heavens. He is really top rate.

This is a pub that sells a good selection of real ales (and lager). The Fish in beer batter is superb. I used to give this higher marks but recently tables have been moved out, a pool table in. There's a sweet dispenser and a fruit machine.Next step a juke box I expect. Don't go there as much as I used to now, which is a pity for the beer and food are really something to be believed.

What a find ! This place lies below the main road in a sort of lay-by. First impressions I hav to admit weren't great from the outside, but we went ahead as it had been recommended. Landlord is an Irishman and he as well as other staff made us very welcome. Menu is quite comprehensive. I chose the mighty mixed grill. At near 15 a go, it wasn't cheap, but it was certainly the best presented grill I've had in a pub restaurant. Not the usual grease and gristle. Er'indoors had the balti and it was as good if not better than most Indian restaurants we've tried. Guinness was A1 and there was a good selection of other ales to try. Toilets could have done with a makeover though - a bit grotty.
I'd CERTAINLY go again

I visited this public house on the 25th June Sat due to a reccomendation oh hubby who had stopped in with lads from work one evening although he had not eaten there he said the people were warm friedly and that there was a fantastic selection selection of meals with good prices and that the people eating were enjoying the food and the meals were of a good size not little like some places
So on these myself and parents who were up from Cornwall decided to try
The welcome was warm friendly and made you feel at home straight away the service was excellent and the food well it took us so long to decide as they have so much to offer it makes your mouth water Mother had steak and kidney pie she said the meat melted in her mouth and the serving was huge my father had the daays grill superb value and he loved every bit of it, myself I had the pork loin chops done in cider etc the sauce was divine, the food was piping hot which makes a change to some other places and the servings were very generous.
If your looking for a good place to eat then this is the one all round value for money and clean with a lovely warm feeling it isnt packed and you dont feel rushed it has a good amount of seating and is definately number 1 on my list to eat at plus the tablemats kept us amused :)
