Oh i totally agree - with any luck it will close and become the decent bar it looked like it was going to be!

Taverna! talk about tacky, i cant believe they have ruined what potentially could have been a well needed new bar in Blackheath.

C'mon people - The Railway is totally over run, there is room for plenty more decent pubs / bars in Blackheath that dont have to be occupied by Chavs!

Wonder how the new restaurant will fare when Strada opens up next door...
Clare - 16 May 2004 10:54
Flame is dead and buried.. it is now a greek resteraunt called Troy Taverna.

Old times.

When this hole was open you could have thrown in a couple of grenades on a Fri/Sat night and wiped out half the car crime in the area in one go. Would have harmed Burberry's sales figures tho'.

It is now closed down. Shame but maybe the next person will make it a little bit less like a Natwest bank with a chandelier... Oh that's what it was!

Is this place still open? It's been shut every time I've been by recently.

Real shame that such a potentially good space has been wasted. It can't make it's mind up if it's a bar or a restaurant. It can't make up it's mind who the clientele should be.... The owner needs to get someone in with a bit of marketing experience to sort the place out. It'a a place without direction or atmosphere. They've put camera's in the loos to sort out the potential drug problems, yet everyone still seems high as a kite.
In my opinion a bit up it's own posteria.

I like it in here. The barstaff are very smiley which is nice. Love that slightly expensive Arc lager that illuminates and spins round whilst pooring with a jet of iced water squirting round the outside of the glass. You end up with ice floating in the top - a gimmick but lager can't be cold enough if you ask me. This place has improved in the last few months.

Who ever seems to think that KANI is racist is talking absolute bo****ks. Having worked with Kani for a number of months i can say that he has never come across racist in any way at all.
With regards to Zerodegrees, he was certainly not sacked. He resigned after giving many years hard work to the company.
With regards to Flame Bar, good luck Kani, improvements made so far are great.
Dont listen to the pointless accusations of people who are so obviously jealous.

Please excuse spelling mistakes in the last comment.. :p

Totally agree with Moosh - especially re the Burberry clad scum who inflict themselves on Blackheath at the weekend! Boring, overpriced and unfriendly.

In the last few weeks, Flame has had a bit of a makeover. The Manager that the place had since it opened has left as did the entier Staff. The new manager is a nice chap, but the only problem seems to be is that the new staff can't seem to work out quite how to pour a pint yet. The kitchen is open, if only for gastro style bar food, not tried it yet but i'm sure i will in the near future. The projector has gone as it belonged to the old manager and he took it with him, leaving a nice empty stand in it's place. Tho it would have been pointless now as the wall it projected onto is now dark red. The big telly's are still there playing MTV and various Sky Music channels in the day. The reason it doesn't play MTV on the weekend is a rep from MTV came in and threatened them with a Law suit, so they put pretty things like surfing and skating on the screens on the weekend, and play digital radio music over the sound system. Oh, and the over-25 rule has gone, the reason that was put in was to stop a group of lads who came in one night and attacked the girls behind the bar.
The main flaw was customer attraction to the place, hardly anyone knew it was there. They've put up a huge, yet very ugly lamp across the front door to catch people's eye. Along with a couple of plants and an A-Board. The addition of a happy hour (6-7pm) seems to be getting people in. But, alas, the carpet remains.. it seems to be the only common subject on the place. The owner of the place owns half of Blackheath village, and doesn't have much of a unique business sense.. to spot which places he also owns just look for the same shade of Red that's now on the walls in Flame Bar, and the tiling, it's the same in all of them (i.e, El Pirata, Fish& Chip shop).
Every single pub in Blackeath Village, except the Hare & Billet, has had a new manager in the last 6 months, this has affected drinking in the village quite dramatically by scaring off the regular drinkers (i'm one of them) and attracting in quite of a lot of Burberry clad scum. Let's hope this changes soon, as this summer the village isn't looking quite as homely as it did this time last year.

Anyway, said my piece, see what you think for yourselves.

"Over 25s only".

Run a mile.

Incidentally, there's still NatWest logos in the end windows.
Darryl - 20 Jun 2003 00:07
An improvement since it has become over 25's, although the new additions to the staff are of concern to us, the punters, as they frequently spend most of the evening talking to there friends, rather than dealing with paying customers. The new tv screens are good although at the weekend they were showing skate boarding, could do better like MTV.
Claire - 5 Jun 2003 21:47
Words cannot decribe this toilet. Over priced and attracts burberry caps and louis vuitton bags - oh dear.
Nelson - 3 Jun 2003 14:36
Just to mention a few positive changes at this 'bar'
It is true that it hasnt yet decided what it wants to be BUT, changes are in process. The Staff has had a turn around, there is currently a kitchen being installed to provide food, the iced beer-Arc is 3.10 a pint yes expencive but extremly popular.
There has recently been 2 flat screen tv's installed to improve on the projector. The natwest stickers are a Pi** take from the advert that promise their banks wont be turned into wine bars. The bar has recently become over 25's and the clientel has grately improved. For the carpet...no comment! I found that after talking to the staff the effort is being made to improve and perhaps positive suggestions would be more benificial, especially now work is in process, than complaining about the little things on here.Besides, where else can you get table service on a weekend night saving yourself from fighting the crowds!

What the hell is this place. Went down and got three drinks came to about 12 quid. The have that new beer where the glass is kept ice cold what a con 4.00 a pint. The decor looks cheap and nasty its trying to be a trendy bar but without any class obiviousley a brewery idea. Just look a the carpet very weatherspoons also the staff are shit. Dont go to this pub it is SHIT!
ian - 9 May 2003 11:35
Went past this the other night and there were *two* punters in there. Go elsewhere in Blackheath and give this place a miss.
mike - 29 Apr 2003 15:36
Expensive, Beer shit Staff Terrible rude arrogant and badly trained. Uphill from station so i get a bit out of breath also door abit heavy so strain. Stay away full of loud abnoxious upwardly mobile geeks.
tiny man - 1 Apr 2003 12:58
Zero-degrees without the beer. Expensive tat sorry but couldn't even take Natwest signs off windows when converting place. Trying to be tendy club-bar but not spent any money. Truly awfull.

arturo_morales - 18 Mar 2003 16:28
It's not a pub,it's a bar. Lacking in ambience, hasn't really decided what it wants to be, consequently filled with a strange mix of young locals on the pull and some seedy old gits also on the pull but who should be looking elsewhere (the Crown, probably).
Elena - 4 Mar 2003 16:14
Very lively, modern atmosphere
benj Moiph - 19 Feb 2003 12:54
The worst pub in Blackheath. Trying to be something its not.
anonymous - 16 Jan 2003 13:38
Why, oh why, did they decide to spoil the aesthetic appeal of this pub by sticking an airport-lounge grade piece of carpet on the floor in the middle of it? It looks most bizarre!
