I know the owner of this place Paul Ojla who also owns Cabman's rest and other pubs in the city. The guy is a great businessman and owns Wiggle, The Lapdancing Club next door. I have not had the chance to visit this place but everything else Paul owns is very vibrant, friendly, thriving and successful.

once again a small pub ever since lap dancing club wiggle took over.

Tried it out the other afternoon. Very quiet, two older fellas in there but the barmaid was oblivious to the clientele and kept flicking through dance music video channels on sat TV. Had a couple of hand pumps, the ubiquitous Doombar (has ever a beer prospered so much outside it's home county as this?) and Green King IPA. Had the latter. It was ok, couldn't quite decide if it was on the turn or not, but forced a couple down. Nice to see an old school boozer, but not sure how it does business wise. Seems to have a fair sized dedicated dining area. All in all ok, but given the choice I'd walk down to the White Swan the other side of Guildhall Square for the microbrews.

This pub is begging for investment from the pubco as it is well positioned, however as it currently is food is ok for lunches, but ale was ok at best and it needs a refurb. Use it at lunchtime if you are fed up with shopping, lounge on right is a nicer bar to drink in.

Probably first pub you'll find when walking to town centre from the station. It was quiet considering it was midday and football was on.

Morland's Old Speckled Hen was on when I visited, though I shouldn't think its a pub that turns over a lot of real ale. Food was typical town pub food, nothing wrong with the meals I'd ordered though.
