please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Rude staff chose to ignore me and chat together right in front of me. Not the first time this has hapened. I lost interest and walked out after patiently waiting for ages. What a shambles!

Real shame, but this place has gone right down hill since the team running it changed. Sloppy service, poorly trained staff and general lack of care has meant the regular patrons have left to drink in the recently opened Ogylivie. Bloke serving me drinks couldn't pour a pint of lager. Wasted 2x pints of froth as was holding glass too far away from spout. All he needed to do was angle the glass... I asked him how long he'd been working there - he said three months. So seems its a terminal problem.

This pub has clearly seen better times and is a bit run-down. The (inevitable!) railway theme is well done, and the staff are friendly, but this isn't a serious ale place. When we went, there was only Doombar and one guest that they couldn't identify - "try reading what's on the cask" we suggested - the bar staff admitting they knew nothing about real ales at all. And the kitchen curiously closes at 7:15 PM.

Visited last Thursday after a curry. Bests pub in the street (not hard when you what else is there), but was surprised to be told it was last orders at 11.00 and we only managed the one before being chucked out.

Tried it last night to watch the Chelsea match on TV. Doom Bar and Brain's SA were very presentable as was the pizza we ordered and the place was surprisingly ok. Woking town centre has a dearth of decent pubs but I'd probably visit again midweek. Friday or Saturday night might be a different kettle of fish though...

Best pub in central Woking, reasonable prices, friendly staff and hot, fresh food and nicely chilled wine. Very clean and comfortable. Definitely recommend. Better by far than the other chain pubs.

Popped in Saturday afternoon for the first time in a few years. Nothing appears to have changed except for a new coat of paint. It is smartly decorated, the two barmen were plesant and efficient and there were a decent number of well behaved customers.
Only two ale on handpump: the ubiquious London Pride and GK IPA (clip turned round). I tried the Pride (2.75) and it wasn't bad but really there is no point having a pint here when Spoons is down the road selling better beer at 1.99!

Mostly a young crowd on a Friday evening who appear to be up for the 'Stay up as long as you can and get pissed as you can idea' even so this pub is not just full of these youngsters. There is a sophisticated crowd I am sure, and indeed the real ale selection offers London Pride so not the worst place to wait for a train... Average enough but 7/10.
BestBeerBoffin - 26 Feb 2010 22:42
Decent pub.
PubWithTheGrub - 28 Nov 2009 15:46
Yep its ok ales change around a bit and seems 2 actually attract a decent crowd.
BestBeerBoffin - 23 May 2009 16:58
Good pub. Pretty good beer.
somewhere2drink - 3 May 2009 09:26
Not to be confused with the train station. This pub does a few good ales and somewhat confusingly has an upstairs pool area - not that you'd ever know if popping in for a quick one. I recall seeing Pride and Greene King IPA as guest Ales.
BestBeerBoffin - 19 Mar 2009 13:41
Yeah they do have a couple of ales, makes the idea of drinking amstel daft.. ok venue.
BigAleDrinkhead - 1 Nov 2008 16:25
DATE OF VISIT: 27/10/08

Went here during lunchtime and surprised to find it very quiet considering its town centre location. The interior has a traditional feel though looks like it's been recently refurbished. Had a pint of Amstel but didn't realise they had IPA on and more disappointingly London Pride to accompany. Had the Hunters Chicken was fairly good value and quite nice. Staff were friendly and attentative but there was something about this place that doesn't make you want to stick around for long.

Would I go back? Sure I would but only for a lunchtime bite or if I was having a quick pint in the evening before moving on to somewhere else...

7/10

Not exactly packed. Where do the population of Woking usually flock to?
Will2 - 9 Oct 2007 12:26
I wish I could visit Rosie o'gradys as I have become to know it in 1999. The best evening of my time in London was at Rosie when I met the most gorgeous man by the name of Markus from Northern Ireland. How I wish that I could re-visit the pub, and co-incidently I would see him there, if only I could have photo of him to keep.
hcannon - 7 Sep 2007 14:01
Looks like the station has improved on what it was. Now even better beers available, including the amstel which tastes excellent. Also have a TV to amuse yourself while sitting around, Pool table upstairs as well. Good place to go if starting or ending a pub crawl in fact. Also situated close to the (Train Station)

A few days ago opened up again after a refit, looks miles better. Cosier, homier, probably the best-looking pub in central Woking right now.

Main changes aside from new furniture and fireplace (kept behind glass, this is Woking after all), first floor has reopened with its own bar, bigger menu & better cooking (steak & chips, bangers & mash, all-day brekkie all tried and tested) though bit pricey, new staff, karaoke and pool table moved upstairs, table footy ditched, downstairs gents sadly little improved.

Important stuff: new beers: Amstel. Possibly London Pride & Courage Best back regularly.

Good to see the manager turning around this place.

And my mate says to say the wallpaper is well retro.

This pub has got to have the worst, smelliest, filthiest, minging toilets in the whole of Woking.
Once you use them you will feel unclean for the rest of the day. Disgusting!
The beer is ok, the service is also ok. But it is difficult to get enthusiastic about anything else about this pub because the toilets really are that bad.
So if you just want a pint and a chat with the staff, then you may find it ok. But if you also want to use the toilets, forget it.

Just had a pint in The Station, and despite the lack of customers, bar snacks or Sky Sports....the dark haired bird (with maaaaasive bangers) is straight out of the top drawer!

Oh, and teh lager is pretty good as well...2.15 a pint
jediknight007 - 20 Apr 2006 14:35
Nice pub. Well, it used to be. The Drum and Bass nights were spot on, but now they have finished, theres not a lot left there. My experience of the staff (Dec 2005) are rude and arrogant and that was just the manager! This is a pub that does not care about its guests. The entertainment is slack and the price of drinks is a joke. Avoid this place like the plague. Opposite is Spoons for a cheaper pint, or down the road a bit the Rat and Parrot DJs are usually good.

It seems like this place has late opening hours which is quite handy. They do a nice pint of London Pride as well. Not sure why they show extreme sports on the tv. Most people going were pretty middled aged and not really interested in it! Important not to get 'the station' confused with the train station which is very close to it
aleman - 25 Feb 2005 10:21
the station is pretty laid back i guess. quite small but in a good way cos it adds to the atmosphere. this is where it beats r&p. staff are quick which is all you need really and the people who go there don't tend to be chavs.
captain - 6 Oct 2004 18:24
It's pretty busy during the weekend, which is a deterrant, as it's such a small venue, but great if you claim your seating and the pool table before everyone starts crowding into the place. Theme nights are best around, and prices are average. but i've never actually seen a food menu displayed?!?!
anonymous - 20 Sep 2004 20:52
This place is great nowadays. Loadsa stuff going on. pretty dead in the daytime even tho foods pretty good and they do 2 4 6. Karaoke on a weds is the best night in town but theres also the best drum n bass Djs on thursdays, House n breakbeat n funky dance on fridays and a kicking R'n'B n hip-hop nite on saturdays. get down n check it out! P.S. the fittest and most 'up4it' barstaff in town!

A nice little place to go to when you can't decide where to drink. Even though owned by S&N/Spirits, its a damn lot better atmosphere than the Rat & Parrot offers. Staff are deffinatly the source of entertainment from the place. It's always doing different things, and has a top bar that can be hired for occasions, and won't cost you a bomb like some people charge, (ahem, Justin@Rat&Parrot!) So have a nose!
Barman Dan - [email protected] - 11 Feb 2004 03:40
Messiest people i have ever seen I fukn loved it!
Staff are Great but tend to spend more time drinking than they do serving!

nice place. Not too big.., but they tie with the Rat and Parrot for the best looking barmaids. Good place to relax, chill, watch the sports, etc. Only thing I'd change was who ever was the chef last time I ate there.., coz urghhhh! But on a rating thing, i'd give the place an 8.5, and the barmaids a 10.0
Barman DAN - 25 May 2003 03:47
