Irish-themed chain bar serving Doom Bar only on cask. It was busier than other pubs we tried on the St Albans Road. But, quite a few were in to watch the live football, which was showing on quite a few screens. Not one I'd particularly recommend.

Friendly laid-back Irish pub. No irritating music but football was on discreetly. Only real ale was Doom Bar, but it was a bit metallic. You would come here for the relaxed atmosphere, not the beer.

Lived just round the corner from this place for six years and went in for the first time last night as it has recently started serving real ale. For some reason they are selling the increasingly ubiquitous Doom Bar rather than any of the excellent local Hertfordshire beers that are available these days; it wasn't great. Inside the bar it's TV screens galore, your typical Watford boozer.

Large, one-room pub showing plenty of live sport on TV.

Beer selection isn't inspiring - faced with a choice of Smiths on tap, I went for a bottle of Newcastle Brown instead.

Wine was pretty average too.

Intrigued by the fact that what appears to be an Irish pub does Thai food so may try that at some point, but won't be rushing back otherwise.

Was in here again Yesterday, great pub.
Good staff, and customers that talk to each other.
They even have there own resident Rock Star, although never leave him charge of your Sunflowers.

Highly recommended

Does anybody know if The Wishing Well has Setanta Sports on their tv repertoire? Or is it mostly football rather than rugby? Thanks!

Dark and Dingy. Not a particularly welcoming place, and the layout is a little strange, pillars and wooden dividers aplenty. But the beer is good, the guinness is cold and the Thai food is fantastic, and very reasonably priced (like 5 a head tops). Wouldnt spend a whole evening there, but there are certainly worse pubs around.

Seems this place has a few problems with its staff. I have to say I always feel they think they're doing me a favour by taling my money.

Went in there one afternoon during the week and there was no-one behind the bar. Couldn't see anyone around except the kitchen staff serving up food who neither acknowledged my presence nor went to find someone to serve me.

Waited for 4-5 minutes and went elsewhere, that just about sums up this pubs attitude to its clients at the moment.

Just left this pub after trying to watch the Ireland vs Pacific Islands rugby game.
I've no idea how many TV screens are in there, but, the two big ones were both showing the same football match (only 2 lads sat at one chatting, instead of watching it), and several smaller sets around the bar showing the same games.
Only one small screen near the bar showing the Rugby. So, I settle down with my Guinness to watch it.
15mins into the game, some young barman says, "I'm afraid I have to turn it over".
"Are you having a laugh?", I say.
"No", and he smirks, and then turns it over onto the football.
Seems to me that the proprieter was off at the time, and the bar was run by staff. I'm going to try and find the landlord and register my complaint.
But, it's unlikely I'll ever drink there again.
Irish pub my arse.

Irish pub but not intimidatingly Irish. Not exactly cosy and welcoming but a damn sight better than the Verulam and Dunnings.

Agree with previous comments that its a decent Irish pub but tonight was a disappointment. The gents toilets smelled awful and there was certainly something wrong, with the smell even emanating into the bar. I saw the guvnor, albeit probably off duty, heading for the gents after me and thought he might sort it out, only to see him go into the disabled toilet to avoid the experience to which he seemed happy to expose his clients. Hopefully it is a short term problem and it gets sorted soon.

This pub is excellant for watching football, the Manager will always accomodate you if there is more than one game on live (the other week when watford played on SKY and West Ham on BBC both games where shown on the big screens)They also show a live game on a Saturday at 3pm usually through some dodgy Arabic or scandinavian channel with English commentary (usually from SKY)excellent if you wanna watch your team on a Saturday afternoon. Reasonably priced beers, 2.60 for a Foster super chilled or Carling cold, and the beer is always kept nice which makes a change from some of the pubs around here.

Great Irish pub with live bands every weekend - fri, sat & sun. Serves Thai food but will cook english/irish food as well. Joe the manager (from County Westmeath is a great personality and is always available for a chat! Shows all GAA Gaelic football & hurling matches but also caters for all english customers showing all the weekly soccer matches. The pub is big enough to cater for everyone's football needs at the same time as there are countless TV screens including two giant screens. THE BEST IRISH PUB IN WATFORD HERTFORDSHIRE.

Very well actively managed pub when it comes to Sports. Its a novelty finding a pub where the management know how to actually use their satellite system! None of the "No mate, its 401 not 408" in here.

Good place for a quiet drink, and for watching sports events if you want a seat.
