Sadly this pub has closed down and is being refurbished as a family home.

Used to be great for a late lock-in

We visited this pub on Sunday lunchtime. It's under new management *again*. The beer is Hall and Wooodhouse and the Badger was in good condition. No sandwiches were on offer, just full meals (mains 8-9), though soup at 3.50 was fine. The pub is huge and there were not many people there. The side bar ("games" bar") was empty so we used that. Eventually I got bar staff's attention and managed to get the constant piped musak turned down. Might we worth revisiting when new people have settled in.

Went there a year ago and found the manager very rude and snobby. Implied that we weren't good enough for his overpriced menu because we only wanted a sandwich at lunchtime.

Happy to say it's recently changed hands, the new landlady seems very nice and they've changed the menu to provide more "pub" food (I'm sick of all the gastro and Thai pubs in the area).

Quietly hopeful...

I went to this pub with friends for Sunday Lunch. We ordered our meals and then waited for the food to arrive. After at least 50 we asked how much longer it was likly to be and were told very soon. We waited another 25 minuites before finally recieving our food, which was very average. After the meal we politly asked if our bill might be adjusted. The bar man returned with the manager who was extreamly rude and agressive and told us that he would not adjust the bill as we had only been waiting 20 minuites in total and we didnt have to go there in the first place. We will not return.

I had heard really good things about the food in this pub, so my partner and I decided to go one evening for a meal.

We arrived at about 7.45pm on a monday evening, ordered our drinks at the bar and sat down at a table to look at the menu. We spent about 15 minutes deciding what to have in full view of the bar staff. When we went to order our food at the bar, we were informed that the kitchen had shut 5 minutes ago and we were not able to have food. The landlord who was sat only a few yards from us looked at us and said nothing. I found this incredably rude and not very customer orientated as it was quite obvious that we were going to eat even after we left the pub there were still menus out on the tables, which may indicate that the kitchen is still open. I will never visit again.

This pub is local to me, so I've been there many times. The food is excellent, with a wide range of Thai food in addition to the usual 'pub grub'. However, the food is restaurant quality, and therefore more like restaurant prices - expect around 10 per main course, less for more mundane pub grub, but not 'cheap'.

Car parking is more than adequate, with a fairly larghe car park plus space along the road if needed.

This pub is especially good for a nice pint or three in the summer, because in addition to being large inside it has a huge garden with literally 20+ picnic benches. Plenty of space for the kids, but not really anything for them to do. The main garden is separated from the road by a think hedge, so safe for small kids, but not child-proof.

Car park runs along the edge of the beer garden, so if you do like I used to with very small kids - want to leave them asleep in their car seat when you arrive, but sit next to the car with doors open - this is one of those viable places! Sounds odd unless you have very small kids and want a quiet pint!

Staff are very pleasant, though foreign students there often in the summer are less talkative.

This is a country pub. only a short drive off the main A4074 north from Reading, but very queit. Go there at a weekday lunchtime and you may be alone!

nice looking pub in the middle of the country - no real village nearby. It's a Badger Brewery pub so decent beer - Tanglefoot and Sussex bitter were on when I was there. There is a garden, and some nice tables out the front. Pretty large inside, with an extensive bar menu. And stylish cowboy doors to the gents...
