The worst of the pubs we tried in Bedford yesterday. In fairness, it's a hotel. Signs at reception direct punters to the bar when reception is unmanned. But what if there is nobody at the bar? We stood there for quite a while, before one of the four staff became apparent - quite a feat when there were only 2 customers. Normally I would be honest and let staff know when I have been given too much change. But the extra pound made up for the 5 minutes waiting to be served. The garden is very nice, whilst the interior is a little faded. We enjoyed a swift drink whilst listening to the staff complaining about their lot and then exited and burst out laughing. An interesting Fawlty Towers like experience, with Wells Eagle IPA available!

De Parys offers friendly and proffesional service, with a wide range of beers and wines and some very nice real ales - I tried several pints. see it for yourself - beautiful garden!! highly recomend!

We went here recently for my Dad's birthday with several other family members and really wished that we hadn't. The food was terrible - two out of ten meals sent back for a reheat and two others sent back completely with not much of an apology from the staff. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone - you'd be better of spending your money in a more up-market establishment like McDonalds.

My husband and I visited De Parys for the first time for several years.

Our visit coincided with a family gathering of 14 of us, arranged at De Parys Hotel. It was a wonderful evening with an excellent choice of dishes from the new menu. The presentation and service of the food was outstanding and it tasted great. The atmosphere could not be faulted.

My husband being a keen real ale fan found the beer unusually good and is planning a re - visit in the near future!

The selection of wines was exciting and extremely good value.

The staff were all very proffesional and friendly at the same time.

We would highly recommend De Parys Hotel to anyone looking for an excellent venue for anything ranging from intimate dinners right up to large family parties.

The garden is something you should take a look at!

We went to De Parys for our anniversary dinner, we had a family wedding there 8 years ago and the married couple returned for several anniversary dinners which were all excellent, we couldnt decide between the Knife & Cleaver or De Parys but we chose the latter. Boy what a mistake that was !

The bar was spit and sawdust with the entire menu coming out of a deep fat fryer, we only tasted the deep fried starter and didnt really touch the main course of fried fatty burnt and completely dried offering.

The bottle of wine was just left on the table with no offering of a tasting whilst the waitress just stood around for half an hour as we finished our drinks not touching the food.

We asked for the bill and she quickly removed the platters directly to the bins as if it was par for the course.

Looks lovely from the outside but you'd best stay there. Once inside the place disappoints. Nice garden but filled with hoards feral kids screaming and running about as their white trash parents look on. Lots of uncleared glasses and plates and staff who look like they'd rather be somewhere else. Who could blame them? Avoid.

Beautiful garden out the back, sadly it dishes up over priced non-descript food in the restaurant, and serves all their real ales through a swan neck and suitably chilled so every pint is like licking and ice cream Tetley, how on earth this place makes it into the Good Beer Guide is a mystery to me. But if you like Gardens you'll surely not be disppointed.
