user reviews of Shannons, Hounslow

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Looks like they are now turning this place into some shops
bjbrummiejohn - 29 Apr 2013 07:43
The last poster has got it wrong this is not The Rose.
That is further up the High St (away from bus garage)on the opposite sid of the road.
Was also know as The Charriot years ago but has been closed for about four years now.
bjbrummiejohn - 25 Feb 2013 12:49
This place has now changed hands, had a refurb and has (I am reliably informed) a great Thai chef and jazz on sundays. Also, renamed THE ROSE. Review to follow
HappyJack - 13 Nov 2009 12:03
It's still covered in kebabs and pewk thrown by Hounslow's finest residents - probably the same dweebs that smash up bus shelters in Isleworth and glass people in pubs in Brentford. Anyone know when this eyesore is getting knocked down?
paulio1966 - 25 Aug 2008 21:40
Shut down, all furnishings removed, taken back by the brewery, about to become flats.

Will I miss it??? Hmmm... perhaps not!
CheekyShepherd - 11 Sep 2007 15:49
WHAT A SHITHOLE!! CROSS OVER THE ROAD TO LARKINS, ITS NOT BRILLIANT BUT MILES BETTER THAN THIS CESS PIT.
anonymous - 26 Jul 2007 16:34
Whoever the anonymous 3 sept2006 person is below.
I gotta say your spot on its crap!!!
thefruitbat - 7 Jun 2007 14:58
Passed by at the weekend and it looks like it's been shut down.
CheekyShepherd - 25 Apr 2007 15:52
This pub is a dive. During the week it is dark and dingy and full of low life eastern europeans (nothing against them but trust me these ones are not nice!), on a friday/saturday night it is also dark and horrible but has rubbish music and is full of 17 year old kids who think that they are 50 cent or eminem and to be quite honest look like they are going to kill you...the female clientel are not much better. Pub recommended to people who do not care if they live past their 2nd drink or who like mingling with the afore mentioned types of people! Better to get a H37 from the bus garage to Richmond and go for a civilised drink!
anonymous - 3 Sep 2006 22:36
Shannons needs a new 'face' as said below...The Chariot as it was could be one of the best bars in Hounslow. The main problem was always inside, but when they close you get a lot of problems down Kingsley Road...but that is where the police come in. See how things pan out with most of Hounslow being turned into 'Little Warsaw' maybe this will help?

Well, another first for the John Bonser book of pub experiences - saw a customer wearing a turban in the pub last Sunday afternoon. He was drinking lager - perhaps he knew that the London Pride wouldn't be very good , wish he'd told me !

This is not a particularly nice place - as other customers have commented - and I'm not sure why I went in as I knew what to expect. I won't do this one again in a hurry
JohnBonser - 25 Jul 2006 11:28
Well,
I been coming her alot and i can say that this place is definetly the place to be on friday/saturday. I have such a good time, there is not much else to go at the weekend in hounslow - yates music is not that good - i like urban music and shannons is the place to go - there is a little bit of trouble but i guess some people kinda look to act stupid - but the DJ is not that good either but if you want to have a funnight with the girls thats the place to be defnitely thumbs up!!!!!
FunnyGirl - 9 Jun 2006 16:35
Ugh!

Close this pub down - it used to be okay on a Sunday, but has always been a notorious blackspot for trouble on a Friday and Saturday night.

I pass by frequently and it's always filled with asylum seekers and Eastern Europeans, I'd like to give this place a try - but the atmosphere always seems far too dark and intimidating.
Succulent_Chicken - 6 Jun 2006 11:34
Ooops! Typing too quickly! I meant boogie longer on Fridays and Saturdays!
mandyb - 15 Jan 2006 22:20
Hi Daddy :)

I'm sure the karaoke isn't the only thing they like about Shannons, as you rightly point out, it was the quietest of the weekend nights, but also the shortest, so I guess people like to boogie longer on Saturdays and Sundays! Don't blame them at all.

Much love to Cheekyshepherd for coming to my defense though...and THAT is the reason I stayed in Hounslow. Not because I particularly like ( or really know) the area, but because of the love and friendship I have been given by so many over the years.

Some people take the money and run, but I prefer to be somewhere that I enjoy the company of the people (the money is always nice! LOL)

I've already been offered jobs closer to home, but I've accepted one for less money in Hounslow again, just so I don't lose the friends I have made.

I agree with your last comment as well, RIP Karaoke @ Shannons, I wouldn't have met such great people without you!
mandyb - 15 Jan 2006 22:16
Cheekyshepherd, your comments make me lol, if you do frequent Shannons on Sunday for Mandys karaoke then im glad it cancelled and your not coming back, hehe. All good things come to an end; hope she moves on to better things, if she is as great and wonderful as you say then why the hell is she in Hounslow??? The Hammersmith Palais is extremely successful on that falls on Saturday...... catch 22, duh???? One last thing dopeyshepherd, if it the only thing people like about this pub why is it the quietist night of the weekend?? R.I.P Mandy and the Karaoke xx
whosthedaddy - 15 Jan 2006 19:33
It has just been discovered that the Sunday night karaoke has been replaced with a School Disco!!! (This is a rather stupid decision seeing as it's a SUNDAY???!!! Seriously, who's gonna turn up?? Probably people who still go to to school, except it's a school night. Bit of a catch-22, hmm?

Needless to say, all the "proper" regulars (as in those who actually spend money behind the bar) are now boycotting Shannons and leaving it to be ravaged into bankruptcy by the shite of Hounslow!

I sincerely hope the manager(s) of Shannons are reading this comment so they realise what a cataclysmic error they have made by getting rid of the only thing people liked about this pub. Fools!
Expect your p45's within 3 months!!!
CheekyShepherd - 14 Jan 2006 18:24
Shock! Horror!

Mandy's Karaoke has been cancelled on Sunday!! :(

The death knell has sounded, unless they try and get her back pronto this pub will lose it's faithful Sunday crowd. If this is the case, I give it 6 months before it closes down or is shut down and becomes another block of flats, like the site of The Tankerville across the road!

There is now no reason whatsoever for me or my pals to go into this pub. During the weekday's it is usual quiet. Filled with drunken old men and/or Eastern European idiots, and on a Friday and Saturday night it is filled with chavs and ruffians making the most of the "disco", scouting after some easy fanny or looking for a fight.

I don't blame the management for this historic blunder, Ben has actually done a good job since taking over. I think the blame lies with Fuller's (brewery), they seem to be making it more and more difficult for there pubs to host entertainment, hence why many Fuller's pubs seldomly have bands/karaokes/etc. Perhaps they think that customers having fun is contributing to the apparent epidemic of "Binge Drinking Britain"
CheekyShepherd - 9 Jan 2006 11:12
It's not the pub, but the company...

I don't really care for the pub on weekdays, Friday's or Saturday's. But Sunday nights with "Mandyoke" are always great fun!

The usual Sunday crowd are always decent (unless they've just broken up with a girlfriend who's lying to everyone and they throw a pint in her face, but that person got barred long ago.). You'll recognise most of the faces from other local karaoke's. There's people who "MAKE Shannons" and the Sunday nights aren't really the same without them. You know who you are guys, stand up and be counted (J.T.G!)!

The new manager seems like a fair bloke. Don't his leniency though, Being barred from Shannons on a Sunday night is a lengthy ! The rest of the staff are effecient and polite, with the exception of one girl who was on last night. I found her rude and unprofessional, and she received complaints from everyone I know! Besides, that, Shannons is the only place to be - On a sunday night at least! I've got no probs spending 50-100 in there. Did last night!!! :O
CheekyShepherd - 28 Nov 2005 15:42
It annoys me a bit when I see someone posting generic comments.

When I posted, I said that I couldn't comment about other nights, I was only there on a Sunday, but other posters just blanketly say it's the pits.

There are no wasters/scoundrels/drink spikers/hooligans etc etc on a SUNDAY night, it's a bloody good night with a mixed aged group, who are all there to enjoy a sing song and a laugh!

Don't knock it til you've tried it!

By the way, Gorgeous84, thanks for your comment!
mandyb - 1 Aug 2005 16:28
Sunday night kareoke is great! Mandy ur the best don't ever leave!
gorgeous84 - 15 Jun 2005 00:12
This pub was real Centrepoint of the community when it was The Chariot. The Manager and staff great and friendly. Always made you feel welcome regardless of your dress and musical taste. Nowadays I would say avoid the Friday and Saturday Night Club. If you do go you feel you need to watch your back and the Bouncers aren't the friendliest people. Sunday night karaoke is great and you get a good quality of people (not those that attend on a Friday or Saturday night). If you want a quite drink and read your paper on a weekday - perfect! The Bar Staff are friendly unless you are rude to them.
anonymous - 19 May 2005 12:12
This was a great pub when it was the CHARIOT, even for sum years after when it became shannons, the regular crowd at that time were a blast but then marius left and the new management wanted to create a younger atmosphere, so out went the people who spent lots, drink loads and behaved themselves. Have been in this pub a few times since, during the week(weekends are a no no)and found it extemely annoying to have to wait to be served by somone who was busy looking at the traffic outside rather than the people who had walked through the door and just want a drink, I wouldn't mind if it had been busy!
midge68 - 17 May 2005 22:38
In the late 90's this pub was the place to be ! THE CHARIOT.
Then it was changed to an "Irish" theme pub which worked as the first staff were Irish, even if they did keep the original manager, hard but fair ! You could go in there day or night, get a smile and conversation from the staff and other customers. The customers were all races and creeds, all there to drink and enjoy each others company. There was a locals corner of very strange looking people , but strike up a conversation with them and thet would show a completly different side. The trouble, and there was little , was sorted out quickly, by mario, and his barstaff. Shannons was a real Music venue, with great bands, local and regional, with disco's and karoke on sunday, that was a good night.
After a couple of years away I returned to find the world upside down, Shannons was now under new management with attitude. The customers will not have eye contact, unless they are out to slot you. Pool tables are evident taking up one side of the pub, causing more bad behavior than ever I have witnessed before. But to be fair, Hounslow has changed in all facets. Bar staff are not of the chatty variety, and the Locals are evident by their absence.
I went in on "Paddys Day " and was spoilt for choice, where to sit. In the good old days, you had to fight to the bar, get served, green beer, frothing with dry ice, and listen to bands till 3am. I saw nobody from the old days so if you are out there, contact me. If you are old barstaff, Jock Joe + lesle, Tim, irish Oin + Mary,The other irish woman, scarey from Belfast,Kiwi Diana, any of the aussie or NZ or S.A or manager, marios, want a catch up about good old days !
hounslowdrinker - 30 Mar 2005 20:29
The message on the windows makes me want to gag, and that's from the car as I sit in traffic outside everyday..
"Where people go to meet people who meet people who meet people at Shannons" or some such drooling gibberish... (also a rip off of All Bar One I think..)
Used to go here when it was the Chariot in the early 90s and it was great.. went for a pint the other week and was happy to leave uninjured and with the possessions I came in with.. a subculture of society dwells within, avoid.
Dave_ESB - 28 Feb 2005 18:45
lol they dont just create noice,Im all for the young enjoying themselves but you are deluded if u rate this pub as friendly and popular DOH
debs69x - 23 Feb 2005 22:49
I visit Shannons with my work colleagues for lunch and drinks after work. we find this pub one of the best in the area as it generally has an older and nicer crowd, but if you go on a Friday or Saturday evening it has the local youngsters, who naturally create a bit of noise and agro as i've seen and therefore staff may have to handle them accordingly. Overall staff are very pleasant, food is good and would highly recommend to visit if you are in the area.
anonymous - 25 Jan 2005 21:02
ok have visited this site many times ,now time to leave a comment on this vile pub.In summer 2003 had dealings and issues to resolve, tried to chat to landlord who was a complete jackarse, the locals that drink here are far 2 young, cause fights, and the bouncers think they run a major nightclub. The guy who ran this pub then reakoned he owned it ,has a vile attitude and allows allsorts to go on in this pub .If the landlord has changed ignore my comments else think twice before going
debs69x - 18 Jan 2005 13:09
The pubs better than most in Hounslow... and has a great web site too!!
Paul - 27 Oct 2004 19:47
Woah, avoid. A DREADFUL pub, full of the lower forms of society.

Trust me, you just don't need the hassle of drinking in here.
TheGP - 6 Sep 2004 13:45
Disagree with allot of you guys, "Badboy bob" you sound like such a knob im glad your dont like going there, it only takes one language to avoid a fight and that is to walk away, and if your such a "badboy" why avoid the fight, Jim i go there every Fri and sat and the odd Sunday with my mates and we are all over 28, so appreciate the comment about all being juveniles, but think the word "Neanderthal" rather describes you, people do look younger now days, maybe its time for you to go to the bingo hall down the road. The rest of the comments i agree with, its Hounslow and the area is not known to be crime free, but since the refurb, and change in no nonsense door staff, Shannons has improved, if you doubt it then come down and see me, im always on the pool tables.
Lee Bradbury - 27 Aug 2004 13:54
it is a wicked pub
anonymous - 12 Jul 2004 12:49
I've not been in. I've just seen the 'unfriendliness' outside, nearly every time I'm unlucky enough to go past in the evening. Would perhaps venture in if it weren't for those customers.
nene - 4 Jul 2004 18:49
Not only is this pub a waste of time and money you have to speak 40 different languages just to avoid a fight! do not venture into this dive!!! not even for a pee!
Badboy Bob - 13 Feb 2004 23:13
This used to be the Chariot. For anyone who does not know Hounslow pre-1997, trust me - The Chariot was where it was at. And now? You could get away with a few quiet jars of an afternoon, but come at night.. I'm sorry.. I can't go on... it's just, such a tragedy.
Good for: being a skinhead and watching football
James - 26 Nov 2003 14:32
Go here on a Friday night and you'd think 2 million years of evolution had never happened. I don't like mixing with juvenile Neanderthals. I doubt if many of the males have seen their eighteenth birthday, and their females (scarcely more than toddlers) probably couldn't count up to 18.

If anybody doubts the danger of serving alcopops to children, just drop in here on a Friday night...

And if anyone tries to retract this comment, you can be sure it's not me. My remarks are set in stone.
Jim - 10 Nov 2003 13:10
I forgot to say, that the pub is open 'til midnight on a Sunday...but if you want to sing you have to be in early!
Mandy - 31 Aug 2003 00:27
cr*p music which is far too loud. can't hear yourself think. full of idiots. go to Ealing or Richmond. Hounslow sucks.
anonymous - 27 Aug 2003 22:31
I agree that the refurbishment of the pub has made a vast improvement. Menu is a lot better too. Sometimes I feel that the bad attitude that once was clouding the place is still there, but people are only human so that's natural. Agree with Mandy, great family feel on a sunday. Would only go in to Shannon's on a Sunday xx Great karaoke girl, well done !!
Anon - 27 Aug 2003 15:15
Hello! I am the person that runs the karaoke on a Sunday night at Shannons. I have been there for 18 months now, and the changes I have seen over that time are quite dramatic. The decor, furnishings and flooring have all been vastly improved, giving a much nicer feel to the place than it had when I first started there. Not only that, but the clientele ( well, at least on my night! ) has rocketed from me having a handful of people in until 10.30... when all the turf outs from the other pubs would come in....to having loads of peeps in from when I start at 8.30.

We really get a family feel to the place on a Sunday night (sorry I can't speak for the other nights, but I'm not there to see them!)...and we have a lot of fun too!

I would say, if you last came to Shnnons a year ago, and wasn't very impressed, please go down again and see it now, you may well be pleasantly surprised :)
mandyb - 25 Aug 2003 02:21
personally i disagree with the above statements, my colleagues and i have noticed huge changes over the last 6 months or so, from the transformation inside which is friendly and inviting with the vibrant colours, new flooring, also now they serve a nice lunchtime menu which we all enjoy and service is quick!
Karen Brown - 24 Jul 2003 20:31
Firstly i disagree with some of the comments previously made since the pub has undergone a refurbishment it looks and feels good and throughout the week it has proffesional clientel and at the weekend it shares the the same customers as the other pubs in town i think we must not lose sight of the fact that Hounslow is not Ealing. The food menu is good and the service recieved was good so i would say you need to visit the pub and you will see its actually better than the attitude pubs in Hounslow.
Shaun - 24 Jul 2003 20:27
On Friday nights, the average age of the customers rarely exceeds their shoe size. And their IQ is even lower.
Graham - 24 Jun 2003 12:51
This used to be a superb locals pub when it was formerly known as 'The Chariot'. By the way, I wouldn't recommend any of the nearby pubs either. Friday and Saturday nights can be ok (it's a 2am bar!) but it's full of students and the dregs of the local area. My advice ... go to Richmond or Twickenham!
John - 25 May 2003 11:49
