I had high hopes for the Hopbunker. But, it was not as good as I'd anticipated. We left the sunny Cardiff streets to descend into a fairly cold and dark cellar bar. There was one other customer, who soon left. The barman seemed a bit miserable. The music selection did not help. I cannot fault the ale cider selection though. Cask ales were Grey Trees Caradog's Bitter, Hopcraft Temple Of Love, Mate Spawn and Die & We Come In Peace, Imperial Classical Bitter & Babbitt Chocolate Fudge Brownie Stout, Pixie Spring Galaxy & Prince Of Bengal IPA, Wye Valley Samurai, Abbeydale Voyager IPA & Bullmastiff Son Of A Bitch. Some handpulls were unclipped too, pointing to the fact that they often serve more when busier. There was a good selection of craft beers and ciders were Hallett's PX, Orchard Pig Navel Gazer, Apple County Yarlington Mill, Gwynt y Ddraig Dog Dancer, Welsh Warrior, Farmhouse Pyder, Dabinett & Two Trees Perry, Thatcher's Stan's Big Apple, Weston's Flat Tyre, Hand Brake & Rusted Wheel, Artisan Ciders Talking Horse, Llanblethian Orchards Breakwell's Seedling, Mole's Black Rat Cider & Snail's Bank Fruit Bat. I certainly can't argue with the drinks selection in this place. For that, it warrants an 8/10. But, the atmosphere is lacking.

A pleasant lunch time in a magnificent bar. A great choice of real ales and an informative chap behind the bar to tell us what the beers were like. Good cider and craft selection to suit everybody. My kind of pub.

A decent friendly basement bar with 13 casks plus various keg and craft ales. Worth a visit.

Excellent selection of real ales and craft offerings including a refreshing lemongrass scented brew. Stands out as there is so much dross in Cardiff but good on its own terms and a must-visit place. Only issue with this and the very good Tiny rebel outlet not far away is a real lack of female clientele.

Nicelight and airy underground bar, lots of real ales and craft ales. Friendly bar staff and very unusual toilets, well the gents were.
London Fields-Hackney Hopster, Hopcraft-Red Mist and Hopjacker-End of Days were all £4.00.

Wonderful new underground bar where the old Barfly used to be. There are 15 hand pumps on the bar and 20 taps at the back. Fine selection of beers including Hopcraft, Dark Star and Thornbridge breweries and at £3 a pint they must be the cheapest in Cardiff! Also noticed about 6 boxed ciders. Interesting reclaimed wood décor and possibly the best toilets in the world! Great staff who knew what they were talking about. Can't wait to visit again.
