Sign outside announced food served until 8pm "Great we thought." Only while queuing to order we heard a couple in front of us try to order to be told the kitchen was closed today. At least we found out before ordering. Pub looked nice enough but we left to find a meal elsewhere.

The food in any restaurant is only as good as the service and The service at The Ship is atrocious. Having booked a table for nine two weeks in advance for a family occasion I was informed the day before the occasion that there was a speciality night booked on the same date. Trying to find a replacement venue for nine people at such short notice proved to be impossible and the night was spoilt for the people involved. By way of an apology I was offered a bottle of wine but only if I booked another meal. Needless to say I declined the offer which I saw as an insult.

Great location, friendly faces, easy going atmosphere. The chef's passion for his work shines through as she was complimented twice when we were visiting and I must say that our cod was perfectly cooked, fresh from Whitstable and of a great quality. Service was prompt, polite and the staff showed a genuine interest in the well being of everyone which created a great atmosphere. I shall defiantly recommend the Ship Inn as a great pub to visit for its unique location, inviting atmosphere & a menu full of quality, value and variation.

Shall certainly visit again,

Lewis

The Ship Inn is a nice enough pub. The food is good but more than overpriced. If you are on a budget then this is not the pub for you. The menu features alot of fish dishes which I suppose is due to the fact that they are on the Medway River but they do a decent mixed grill.

Five cask ales in a Sunday lunch pub. Almost all tables are for eating, but there are three tables by the door and stools around the crowded bar. Menu is awkwardly placed on a blackboard round the back, though there are table top menus for evening meals. Clean and tidy though lacks distinctive charm and character. Yacht varnish and blue paint creates a semi-trendy cafe ambiance. It's pleasant, and popular for meals - booking seems to be required. We were lucky to given the table of a cancellation. Beer (Millis and Speckled Hen) was in good condition. Food was very tasty.

The Ship Inn is a lovely little place by the river. The food is very well priced and pretty incredible - beautifully presented and a really healthy portion too. Their chicken and mango salad is out of this world... Five stars from me :-)

The Ship Inn has a cosy comfortable seafaring feel, and is located on the banks of the Medway in the small village of Upnor - historic for The English Navy's greatest defeat in her own waters. The crowd is friendly and the talk more often than not revolves around the days sailing or fishing on the Estuary! A true gem - jovial landlord and landlady Roy and June serve up the meanest fish and chips in the South East!!!

Owned by the same people as the Kings Arms- so expect the same sort of fayre, but a lot more relaxed atmosphere.
