When viewed from the Tamar bridge you always think well that looks like a great place to have a pint in on a sunny day.
So one sunny day me and my mrs went down to the Union and i have to say that close up this pub is not a good as first seems.
A somewhat strange selection of beers here which was not a problem, but the place just felt tired and dirty and pidgeons flying everywhere outside we felt somewhat dissapointed, it wouldn't have taken alot to make this a great place we thought the Boatman across the green was far better.

4/10

There are certain members of staff in this pub that treat you like the scum of the earth why when you are paying top prices for beer they serve it in the crapiest glass they can find and the beer is flat !!!!! not all the staff are like this its the luck of the draw who you get .A few words for that member of staff SERVICE AND QUALITY you are loosing sales for the pub

Went here as well during the Royal Albert Bridge 150 celebrations, pub mostly known for its unusual exterior paint job (eyecatching for passengers passing by on trains above) they had 2 beers on if I remember and they were well kept. Unfortunately there was standing room only inside and a queue snaking out the door, but normally I reckon it would be a pretty nice place to while away an hour or 2.

took my breathe away last Sunday , new carpets ( yet to settle ) and seat covers , Brian has sailed head on into the credit crunch defiantly waving two fingers at all the doubters and pessimists , good on you. Still a great pub , friendly people and nice beer

Hehe....bistro you say ? I do know that Brian is trying to win back his Michelin star via the exotic rolls and only stocking Dark Chocolate Bountys in the fridge to cater for the more refined palette.

the union has character and is not a bar/bistro which would suit north hill, this is wot i sent to kristian ..... excuse me ice warm the best for music in saltash, are you stoned or stupid and plus its a bar not a cafe you idiot. if they were that good why dont they have there own page instead of you advertising them on other pubs pages, the union is the best place for music and thats why people go there, alot of people who go in to ice warm only go there because they are banned from the rest of the pubs in saltash or too young to get served in them. dude open your eyes see the world and join us because you're still dreaming.an...

The Union is a nice old pub, but Icewarm Cafe Bar is starting to host some really good live music in Saltash.

Icewarm live music Cafe Saltash... definitely hosts the best live music in Saltash Cornwall, the rest of the pubs in Saltash are dated, old...and boring.... My girl and I hang out @ Icewarm Cafe Bar because we love quality, young live musicians...real local talent...not open silk shirt function bands.... Live Music In Saltash is best served @ Icewarm Cafe Bar...with a tasty Pizza and a cold beer! hmmmm.... xxxx

Top class real ales. Interesting lagers. Great live music. No money spent on the pub since 1959, thread-bear carpet. Great bar staff. Landlord is a miserable cornish git with a very silly beard.

Easily the best pub I have been into in the last few years. The locals are very friendly and having just moved into the area a couple of months ago I feel as though I have been there years. There is an eclectic group of locals from boaties to students to hippies to posties but most have one thing in common...they all love live music and that really is the heart and soul of the place. Brian the landlord keeps live music in the Union four times a week with Friday and Saturday being either rock or bluesrock. A dazzling array of lagers on draught (including Staropramen and Budvar) with several well maintained guest ales on for the more beardy types keeping everyone happy. A zero-idiot policy is employed very effectively although it is rarely necessary (if you want the Fred Perry, Max-power, Burberry cap crowd there are several other pubs in Saltash that will gladly supply - any that do happen to wander in always look a bit uncomfortable and almost immediately wander off in search of some garage music). Dogs are welcome (if kept under control) and there is a huge waterfront seating area (which enables you to chat away to your friends in between live sets). Children are allowed outside but not into the bar after a certain time in the evening to ensure some peace for the local crowd. By the way "anonymous", if you don't like the music, then either don't go or suggest to Brian what you would like (if you can pull a crowd for a particular type of music he might be amiable to trying a band during the week). However, please do not think he is going to starting booking Metallica tribute bands just because someone nicks his pint glasses every now and again (some of the music isn't to my taste either but you will always find one band a week that are pretty good and play something you like).

the building is to small for what he does and the place is to cluttered with crap (sorry memorobilla)the up side is large seating area outside and he don't care if you walk off with the glasses sorry but even sumtimes the music is very crap i think he mite b going deaf in old age some fing has to be done about it

The best pub in Saltash by far, and also the only Free House. Great selection of beers plus guest ale straight from the barrel. Live music with some of the best bands in the area and even outside the area. No riff raff thanks to the landlords ability to stare. Only downside is the bar is tiny for the size of the building, but hey there's ample seating outside if it gets to hot.

This pub is fast becoming my favourite in Saltash. There is no better experience than meeting your buddies down there on a warm summer's evening, taking a bench outside under the bridges, and reminiscing.

I love it.

Down by the riverside, and amongst a collection of other pubs. This delightfully rustic building is a pleasure to behold. The inside is a step back in time and is possibly the oldest pub around the area. Nice views of the bridges and a warm friendly feel to it, may even better by the ever present live music acts, which can be a joy to watch. Nice pub, no qualms about this one, good beer and a good start to a crawl.

Good place to start a pub crawl, very near the Boatman, The Waterside and the Two Bridges.

Quite dark in there, live music is always a bonus. Has Bud on tap, as well as Castlemaine. A nice pub to go to occasionally.

This is a drinkers pub. Brian keeps a good pint, and the music he has in is second to none. It may be a small pub, but the atmosphere is exelent. Worth a visit i'd say!

Overlooks the River Tamar, directly underneath the Tamar bridge. Good beer, friendly folk and live music four nights a week.
