user reviews of the Victory, Hamble

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Nothing particularly special: three ales (the ubiquitous Doom Bar, Ringwoods Best, and something else pretty standard).
Interesting building, flagstones and timbers, but a bit scruffy and worn. Seemed like a locals place, ambivalent welcome for others.
OK, but not memorable.

Well run and well kept traditional pub. Flagstone floor and exposed beams, with an abundance of interesting marine knick knacks on the walls to look at. Four cask ales: Ringwood Best and FortyNiner, DoomBar, and Thwaites Bomber. Good selection of food at reasonable prices. We had the lunchtime jacket potatoes - nicely done and attractively served. Pub is on two levels and is pleasantly roomy. Nice ambiance. Great service. Recommended. As Hamble village is very attractive, this is a pub worth making a detour for.

Mixed feelings. Good selection of ales and the girlfriends lasagna was ace. But the I've had bigger goldfish than the cod I was served and we had to stand up for 5 mins as soon as we'd finished eating so the waitress could write up the specials board. Maybe it's 'locals only' these days or something. Will try the nearby bugle next time. Hamble waterfront is lovely mind.

The Ringwood Best was fine The food was fine. The prices were fair. The service was friendly. And as if all that was not enough, the lovely landlady volunteered to reverse my car out of their distinctly challenging car park. I don’t think I looked incompetent. I think she’s just a very nice person. We shall certainly return.

I visited this pub by chance , working in the Locale.. I went to one other pub on my first night and was horrified by how awful it was, On stumbling into the Victory as the more appealing of the local pubs I was pleased i did, visiting it every night for the next two weeks.. The Beers varied and excellent, Doom Bar being particulalry well kept, The staff were all fantastic, chatty and plesant, you were welcomed and remembered, The food again was on another level, Excellent fish well cooked, everything i had i couldnt fault, starters , mains or deserts,a Northern colleague of mine declared the meat pie the best outside of the North east, and had it three nights running
I wish that there were more pubs like this..This deserves more recognition for the service it does, its at the centre of the local community and interacting well with visitors...A Victory indeed.. 10/10.. and i dont give that out much..

My favourite pub in Hamble. Definitely the friendliest and quickest bar staff - you'll very rarely be kept waiting in the Vic. A reasonably selection of well-kept ales and good food at a reasonable price. A fairly large pub with a separate dining area as well so often less crowded than some of the others nearby.
