user reviews of the Beech Tree, Bromley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I'm reading the below and to be entirely honest, have found the comments a little harsh - the pub is now The Hop and Rye and have popped in quite a few times for a couple of beers in the last year or so. Found the selection to be good and reasonably priced - havent eaten there so cannot comment. Staff seemed friendly and a lot of locals milling about

Popped in with a friend one Saturday evening as well and had a good laugh, maybe the criticism needs to be reviewed

FYI I am not the manager of the Beech Tree, just a very please customer who is sick of mindless people running the oub down for no reason.

I have no idea who put that awful reveiw on this site, but I can only think they have an axe to grind because since the change of manager, the food has improved to the point where it is a pleasure to eat there now. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff try very hard to please. I think this is the best Pub in Bromley with a strict drug free policy and constant age checks. All sports are covered and I am always in to watch the football. My name is Steve T and I will not hide behind an anonymous handle.

Can't believe the last comment!! This pub has really turned around since the new management couple have arrived. The good old days of charity events and family fun days are back!! I had a brilliant day with my children at the recent Beech Party, there was face painting, a bouncy castle, childrens jelly and lots of games to keep them amused while I had a good day too. You could tell that it has been really well thought out aswell as the cost of things was kept to a minimum, I could easily have gone to the park and spent double just on ice creams!! The evening for the adults was just as good and I've got to say the DJ they have recently had at the most current events is the best that has been in there for a very long time!! The staff are a very friendly bunch who make you feel welcome as soon as you come through the door. The food standard has rocketed in the last few months, the pub had died a death on food because of bad chef after worse chef but now they have some really competent people who are committed to serving good food well presented for a reasonable price. I eat there 3-4 times a week and never have any problems. Definately one to visit!!

Not much to say...could do with a clean inside and out and perhaps more attentive bar staff.

A standard "estate pub". Didnt really want to stay here to see what it was really like.

Note for Barman gain eye contact and if your busy just tell the customer who wants to contribute towards your wages you wont keep them long rather then avoid eye contact at all costs and serve your mate.

The landlord has recently changed (Feb 2010). He is committed to changing things including the staff, the beer, the atmosphere and the condition of the pub.

anyone drinking ere needs thir head examined, the beer is sub standard, and the staff appear to be there just for thier own benifit. A few of the lager louts were present, just to keep the tone of the place at rock bottom, and the TV just gave them an excuse.

This is a terrible, terrible pub. I knew the Starbuck family who years ago ran this pub, and it is a shame to see this pub run by an amatuer. The best thing this place could do is get rid of the manager, whoever it is at the moment, as they clearly have no clue.
I've only ever seen one staff member smile and be polite, adressing me as 'Sir' and my wife as 'Maddam' (which I don't see as a necessity but at least a bit of recognition came from him instead of the usual grunt and glare.) Most of the staff are happy to serve flat beer and bitter lemon bottles that are out of date. This was now a few months ago. I kept going back with my wife to give it another chance but I think now is the time to stop trying.
Pub-4/10
Management-1/10
Staff-2/10
Atmosphere 2/10

Just didn't like the atmosphere or the beer when visiting this pub. Just a below-average boozer in my view.

This could be a nice pub.
Unfortunately, bad management has driven this once thriving pub downhill fast.
The staff are of poor quality and as mentioned in previous post's, there is a massive drug problem which is why the Beech Tree is know as THE druggie pub in Bromley.
Much nicer down the road in the Farwig where you're always guarenteed sevice with a smile.

Something has to be done about this place...and soon!

The manager and her cronies are reported by some regulars to be involved in the whole Becch Tree "drug scene" Someone will get killed in this place if the Bromley police don't close this pub down soon, or at the very least remove the manage Mav Duffas.

You've been warned!!

the food is fantastic it dont taste or look like your typical pub food ie everything frozen or deep fried the mixed grill is a must
tom98 - 23 Nov 2007 14:28
Can someone please tell me how the pub food is like and is this pub worth going to ?thanks

ladyfirestormy - 22 Nov 2007 21:22
i would like to notify you all that the message written on 16th July 2007 by Mavdyke was written by the new owner and is not true. I would like to agree with what Mickey_Margate has written as it is awful and has a huge drug problem which the police are trying to deal with but cant quite shift it! I think it says it all when the manager is the one who has to write a good review! Steer well clear of this pub.
Gordon123 - 21 Oct 2007 14:22
On the contrary to the previous post I would dispute the claim that the Beech Tree Management is "steering it towards a very community based environment."
For those of you who like to drink piss-weak warm beer in a scruffy establishment, run by two hairy-arsed lesbians will be in for a treat!

Mickey_Margate - 24 Jul 2007 20:52
The Beech Tree is under new management and is steering it towards a very community based environment.
There is always something going on and with an extensive menu and thorough clean up in preparation for the smoking ban, The Pub is headed the right way.
Karaoke or D.J. every weekend, and regular charity events. This is definitely one to visit
Mavdyke - 16 Jul 2007 15:20
Not a bad pub, can be a bit laddish at times!

adquinn - 25 Aug 2006 17:44
Its a nice pub, but ... no buts, its a nice pub, pool table, good beer!
iloveme - 26 Jun 2006 18:07
Yet another chain pub lacking in atmosphere. Service adequate, but food disappointing. Rather too many tracksuited types for my liking.
juliatheakston - 31 Jul 2005 16:02
Great place, great staff. The locals are a bit of a mixed bunch but all salt of the earth.

I suspect "Steve" may be aka "CiderMan"

I used to work at the Beechtree (about a year and a half) and I can't say enough good things about the place. Clean, honest, friendly and efficient in every way you'd want a pub to be.
Matt - [email protected] - 2 Jun 2004 13:23
went there once.. same as last comment.. looks like an office outside.. ok inside.
