Had 'Butcombe Gold' on our recent visit, decent pint but a bit pricey.

Pleasant pub, well kept ales, spacious smoking area.

A pub that has been in transition for some time and now seems to have settled down. It's always been a friendly place for a drink and is clean and comfortable. Beer was kept well on 2 recent visits but chip buttie was frankly awful. Live bands play in room off back yard. Handy for the Garrick Theatre which can be accessed from the rear of the pub.

I hadn't visited the George for years so was gobsmacked when went in recently.
It has been revamped to a high standard and has a nice comfortable feel to it.
I have been three times in all and encountered live music two out of the three times.
Beer was excellent, home made scotch eggs were to die for. Have heard that food there is very good.
Fingers crossed they can keep it up

New management are trying to restore some semblance of a real pub by offering a genuine guest beer, usually Tim Taylor's Landlord although they have had the ordinary bitter, which I believe is difficult to find outside of Yorkshire, The long and short of it is that the beer is good and well served but the place lacks atmosphere and the clientele tend to have a drink and move on elsewhere.

Town centre pub, a brick and half timbered Georgian building (presumably dating, or first licensed around 1820-1830). Sadly the interior has been refurbished so often, all feel of heritage has now gone. An L shaped room, where a 70s/80s disco was taking place in one corner, but not to the level to drive people out. Service was fine.

The beer was the usual tosh, no MILD, with Pedigree and Bass on handpull. The Bass was decent enough. A bit of a muchness place.
