Dorset Street Bar, Brightonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I have to agree with Stephen, following our visit to this pub yesterday. We liked the continental look of the Dorset Street Bar and the menu, although when we asked the waitress whether all the specials were still 'on', she told us that most of them weren't.
She asked us if we'd like a drink while we decided what we'd like to eat. We ordered some Deuchars.
We chose our starters and main courses, however after 15 minutes without beer, during which we saw the waitress on the 'phone before she disappeared altogether, we decided to leave. I got the impression that they'd completely forgotten about us. We had little faith in the food if they couldn't even pull a couple of pints.
For much of our visit there was no one behind the bar, however there were two waitresses fiddling with the tills for prolonged periods plus the woman who served us and then disappeared - who on earth thought that table service in a pub is a good idea?!
We nonetheless had a really nice evening, eating in Gourmet Burger King across the road and then enjoying some jazz, Bombardier and pleasant ambience in the Seven Stars.

We called in for a pint of excellent (but bit pricey) Sams cider we spotted a cask of on the bar counter (many pubs in the North Laines do this). This place is buzzing, and heaving with a friendly good natured crowd, especially in the evenings. They put extra tables out over the road at weekends when it's closed to traffic; perhaps not the most idyllic spot but very pleasant for a city centre pub.

There is being laid-back and there is being laid-back! Despite four members of staff hanging out it took nearly 15 minutes to get served. The Deuchars was only average so did not bother with another. Maybe it's classed as trendy, maybe it's beacuse I am over 40 but can't see any point in going again.

Can only agree with pocketshepherd about this place - although they do now serve draught Deuchars IPA. Some old windows; counter front and dado lincrusta still survive but the bar has been completely opened out. Not a pub but it was very pleasant none the less.

the place has a fairly continental feel, the best way to describe it would be that it's a cafe/restaurant/pub/bar rolled into one, like many places on the continent often are. It's one of these places that functions primarily as a restaurant/cafe in the daytime but becomes primarily a drinking spot for a fairly bohemian crowd in the evening.
The atmosphere is great, helped by its central position in north laine, but drinking there is fairly expensive as there is no beer on tap apart from kronenbourg so the bulk of the beer/cider selection is large premium bottles. However if price isn't an issue the selection is great, the Bavarian wheat beer being particularly good.

This pub is located slap-bang in the middle of the North Laine area of Brighton amongst all the kitsch shops and kooky shoppers, yet presents itself as a fairly straightforward, ordinary looking modern pub.
There was a good selection of ale, including a very tasty pint of Adnams Broadside and if I remember correctly, there was a pretty decent cider selection as well. Service was pretty laid-back and friendly and we were lucky enough to visit on a warm day, which meant we could drink outside on tables arranged in the closed off street.
