Unspoilt Victorian pub - stepping inside is like going back in time with traditional interior, coal fires and remarkably cheap Sam Smiths OBB on hand pump. Welcoming & popular with locals; well worth a 5 minute walk up the hill from the town centre.

Great Sam smiths pub and 1 million times better than the globe. Come to this pub if you want decent beer and chat.

Been in here over the last few weeks. Must be the best kept pint of Guinness in the area, really excellent although not quite as good as you would get in Dublin. Still nice and quiet, great locals and great snug.

This is a proper locals pub. The beer is cheap and well kept. The pub has a standing bar area, vault and lounge, all uncahnged for decades. This is a Sam Smiths pub, so don't expect extra trimmings or etiquette. The locals are friendly but can be noisy in the bar and vault. Most of the Sam Smiths range is available in bottled form, if not available on draught. Excellent!!

Still a fine pub, now in CAMRA's National Inventory of pubs. Only sells Sam Smiths OBB as thats all the brewery produces real ale wise, but its always good. Some of the local characters are not for the timid or retiring but great fun to either sit in the snugs and listen to their conversation or mull around the bar area.

I have been using the Crown regularly since 1981, the year that Sam Smiths aquired it from the now defunct Wilsons brewery. Never get fed up of it, beer great, good banter, quiet (no music), locals from all walks of life. An easy place for a stranger to strike up conversation. Back snug great when the fire is lit on a Winters night.

Cannot fault this place, the locals are friendly, the beer (samuel smiths) is good quality but friendly on the purse, service is good as well.....

A truly excellent locals pub with good - and very cheap - bitter and lager. Old fashioned rooms with coal fires. Dogs running about the place. Much merry banter.
