Molly Malone's, Hitchinback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Firstly, I have had to create a new, anonymous account to write this review as the patrons and manager of this establishment threatened me.
This is a homophobic pub with a some nasty regulars and a hostile manager (Darryl).
Until tonight, I loved Molly Malones. It was my favourite pub in Hitchin. I attended a few times a month watch live sport. I met some lovely people, especially around the pool table. I went tonight to watch the PSG vs Chelsea game, and ended up playing poker with a couple of lovely guys, and the manager, Darryl, who turned out to be not so lovely.
After the football, whislt I was at the bar, another patron shouted out 'Chelsea Nonce'. This is an offensive homophobic slur when connected to football, as evidenced by the conviction of Joey Barton who repeatedly used it on social media.
I politely but firmly told the guy that was not okay. He got aggresive and told me to 'F' off. He then said it again.
I reitereated that his language wasn't okay, and said I'd call the police if he said it again.
He said it again. I dialled 999.
At this point the manager (Darryl) asked me to leave the pub and took my drink away (I had just bought him a pint). He said he was removing me from the premises 'for my own safety'.
The police attended. The said that 'nonce' was not a slur. I advised them to educate themselves, They were rude and dismissive.
Darryl appeared at the door, grinning, and invited the officers into the pub. They left within 2 minutes, and reported on their radio that no offence had been comiited. I got their badge numbers and names and have made a complaint to Hertfordshire police.
The police officers advised me that if I was now unwelcome in the pub, if I didn't move on and a complaint by the manager was made, I would be moved on by them forcefully.
This is NOT an LGBTQ friendly pub. It's NOT a friendly pub at all under it's current management.

Love love love this pub!! The locals are a breath of fresh air, so different to most places in hitchin where everyone is so fake, in Mollys you know what your going to get, the landlady is wonderful and works extremely hard to deal with the constant demand of nice and unimportant things to have in a pub like a bookshelf or a machine that will get used twice and then never be used again, I understand that the toilets are not the prettiest but with such an old building and one that is waiting on a refurb who needs Buckingham palace toilets when you have great beer, Great local music aswell as all the sports and even better people to to spend time with in there, would defiantly go back in there all the time! Can't wait to see what it looks like once the refurb is done!

Virtually empty at 1pm. GK IPA was the only real ale available and that was stale. My mate had to send back his half of lager as it was undrinkable. Peeling wallpaper, a long-dead wasp lying among crisp remains on the window-sill.
Landlady was pleasant enough, but you wonder how long this pub will keep going. Depressing.

Really gone down hill in the last 12 months, real shame as it was a decent enough pub that used to serve good beer but no longer.
The Fosters was near end of shelf life, you know when you get that horrible sweet taste. The toilets were dreadful, my other half going as far to say they were the worse kept toilets in the whole of Hitchin.
Not good and a sad reflection of a pub going down the pan (pardon the pun)

A shadow of its former self. Gone are the bookshelves and the flags adorning the ceiling, and the atmosphere's gone with them. The pinball table is pretty unique and a nice touch, but apart from that, it just feels really open, airy and lifeless. A shame.

I like this pub, and although it has changed owners over the years it hasn't lost sight of its core strengths and its punters. Watched sport here, bands here and just gone for a quiet pint. Nice locals and staff. Good guiness and now started keeping a couple of reasonable real ales (the Green King IPA used to be rubbish). Would fully recommend a visit.

Good to see sports in and good to know they have live music, however a pub needs good beer and Molly's doesn't deliver. As soon as you see Strongbow on tap you know you're in trouble. I used to drink in there for the music and the Stowford Press, but now that's been discontinued I shan't be using it no more.

Great pub, proper landlord, decent beer, music good. The Open Mic night is particular fun. Has sporting events on too. No neon, fake tans or expensive bottled lager, and long may it stay that way.

Been to this pub a good couple of times over the past year or so and the atmosphere is always good, Good mixture of young and old and some great bands and open mike nights. Beer always good and beer garden on those rare sunny days.

A friendly pub with a great atmosphere. Open mike nights on Thursdays are well worth a visit. Normal GK beer but oftrn has a guest ale as well.

This is my local and I love it, one of the friendliest pubs I have ever been to, moved to Hitchin a few months ago and thought it would take me ages to make new friends, but I stopped off in Molly's and instantly made a large circle of friends. Open mic nights on Thursday are consistently good and some excellent bands play at weekends. ApPool table, book club, beer garden of sorts and so forth, all make this a great community pub
