The Village is great for cheap drink Happy Hour all night Monday and till 8pm on other nights. Staff always friendly. Music is not all that great and they repeat the same CD over and over quite a lot but it has become a favourite of mine

i agree it is fairly clear that the poster two posts down, is associated with the owner or manager.

it does still have the cheap happy hour when you can get a glass of the house nasty in red or white flavours for 2, or a stella.

not so bad. it is what it is.

occasionally has dancers on the bar, drag, karaoke. no decent ale worth mentioning.

not the greatest bar in the world but it's packed for a reason. i think the description 'lowest common denominator' is fair enough, but 2 wine is rare in soho! on the rare occasion i feel that common, i guess it's good to know it's there.

Interesting that the previous poster registered as a member left this message and nothing since ... personally don't recognise the place from his descriptioon but then I'm not staff or management there.

One of the best locations for one of the best places in soho!
The Village is a cosy place with it's newly refurbished surroundings, the crowd is eclectic and friendly. The music is a blend of classic pop with the latest tunes mixed with some disco and house. The price of the drinks is what you would expect for a place in central soho, but they do have an happy hour from 16:00 untill 20:00 from sunday to thursday when their house spirits become 2.
It's divided in three floors each one with a different vibe to it. The top floor it's a bouduoir perfect to bring your date for the evening enjoying a romantic cocktail while gazing at one of the most spetacular views of Old compton street. The Ground floor gathers two bars and it's perfect to meet new people or to bring your group of friends to share a bottle of fine wine and watch the amazing go-go dancers at the weekends. The Basement floor has a "clubby" feeling with a darker surrounding, D.J booth and mirror ball to dance the evening away.
Definitly a great place to spend evening!

Right where do I start? You have a bouncer with such arrogance and self importance you get afraid that standing to close in the vicinity of him will suck you in like a black hole. I came here recently to celebrate my 21st birthday party and because I look young even for my age I was patronised like a child. One of the bar staff was rude and when I asked him a perfectly reasonable question he gave the rudest answer. The absolute rudeness of these people is unbelievable. When we say lapse in standards well what applies to here is lapse of giving a bugger. Avoid this cesspit.

They've turned this place into a sort of beach bar, with a sandpit and bamboo skirting around the bar. Still, the bar staff are a lot cheerier and the prices ain't bad. My only gripe is that the interior still looks too much like a converted industrial unit, but other than that it's probably one of the top two gay bars in Soho at the moment. Even the toilet attendant doesn't harrass you any more.

Just wish they would ditch the bloody go-go dancers.

Gay bar in good music shock!!! I popped here last night and, blow me down, the music wasn't the usual garbage... some top notch soul... Smokey Robinson, Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke and the like. More, Village, more... makes the extortionate drinks prices bareable. The staff, who have always been easy on they eye, seem more polite these days... they actually serve with a smile. Service can be slow (painfully slow), especially if the bar staff are in cocktail mode. This place gets a fairly bad rap (deserved in some cases) but its no worse than any other gay bar in London and a hell of a lot better than most.

dreary, charmless real lowest common denominator gay bar, cheap and nasty music, lazy staff, toilet attendents who hassle you for a tip every time you use the facilities, the bar room in the brewer street is ok I have been to better venues

Absolutely horrid, agree totally with pubgoer regarding clientele. Years ago when it opened this was a nice bar but is just cheap, tacky and extremely seedy now.

Agree with pub goer. Don't understand why they play moved that don't correspond with the muzic. Used to be a great place.

nice place but not worth staying there once the selected 2 happy hour is over at 8pm.
seems to be getting over run with old white men with groups of young chinese boys.

Quite possibly the worst gay bar in London. How they could have got it so wrong is anyone's guess but they really have- They have movies playing but no sound (instead a mix of dire music!), lighting is more suited to a seedy stripjoint, barstaff are arrogant, slow and overworked, the wait at the bar even when it is dead quiet for me was 20mins (machine was broken), the refurbishment has ruined the character of the place... must say though, the ONLY thing that is good about the place is the happy hour drinks. Advice- stay for these if you can stand the atmosphere and head round the corner to Rupert Street!

One of the better places to go on Old Compton Street. Good atmosphere and busy!. Drinks can be very expensive. Standing only at weekend and late night so get there early if u want a seat!
marky_watson - 25 Feb 2006 15:53
possibly the best gay bar in Soho if only for the 2-a-drink happy hour(s) (4-8 daily). Music is loud and dire but the stunningly beautiful staff more than make up for it.

I wouldn't pay the ridiculous prices this bar has outside of its 2 happy hour. More the late 20s/30s set of gays so thankfully not over run by flamers. The design of the place is dreadful and it could do with some touch ups. Gogo dancers on the bar aren't needed either. Better bar staff please!

Nice enough place shame they don't know the different between fosters and kronenberg and that on leaving I noticed a happy hour sign where pints were 2 but I was charged full price.

Great place save for the EXPENSIVE charge made to prevent late night disturbances, on the door. The City of Westminser Council insist that gay places do this now. But where other premises take a token amount the Village 'book in', milking gay men and women for every penny they can eek out.

Saw a fight spill out onto the road on Saturday from this pub. Well funny. One geezer was trying to hit another with his orange carrier bag, then two cops on horseback appeared from nowhere and started chasing him down the road!

I love my Village. Used 2 work there 4 almost 2 years! Anyone remembers? :)

Curious arrangement, sort of an L shape, with the hey-oop gay stuff mainly happening in the horizontel L bit! VERY nice bar staff.

Rather nice really. Pleasent atmos and generally genial feeling. Convieniences spotless and inclusive of (probably) under paid non-white member of the public.

Truly sexy individual (think R*c*ard but not sure) behind bar.

nice place - shame about the man in the toilet who tries to wash your hands for you (can we not even pee in peace these days)?
G - 8 Oct 2003 10:22
An intriguing place, crowded and with semi-naked young boys gyrating on poles on the bar. Rather male heavy and even had a couple of staggeringly butch transvest.....

Hang on a minute....
