Old Post Office, Stevenageback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
This is the pub where people go when they have been barred from the WSP next door.

Rather scruffy modernised pub in the shopping centre. There was a noisy crowd at the two pool tables, but otherwise this place was quiet on a Saturday night. Two real ales were on offer, of which one was from the Wychwood brewery and the other was GK IPA. I suspect the real ale drinkers will go to the superior Standard Bearer next door. The two barmaids were friendly, but the pub was let down by its lack of cleanliness. This is a pub where a broom and cloth would be inadequate - you'd need a high-pressure hose and a mop.

Cheap drinks, cheep food, decent place. Gets busy as the evening goes on, atmosphere quiet and relaxed earlier on, then music goes up and lights go down. Good night out.

Wandered in here 730ish last night, whilst waiting for a train, and wandered straight out again. A pitched battle was brewing, I'm not sure what the sides were, but if you weren't stoned or paralytic you were very clearly in the wrong place. I suppose on the positive side, nobody tried to sell me any drugs, unlike in Wetherspoons right next door! There was a GK beer on the bar but decided it really wasn't worth the hassle!

This former Hogshead is operated by Town and City pubco and is right next door to the Wetherspoons and I made the mistake of thinking that this was just another bar area of the 'spoons. There are six handpumps ,offering four unexciting ales on my trip Courage Best,Bomber,GK IPA and Abbott which were at least drinkable.Very dozy bar staff, joshing with regulars and serving them immediately while strangers waited in vain at the bar.One barmaid in particular had perfected the technique of walking around the bar looking in cabinets, shuffling papers, fiddling with the till while studiously avoiding serving an increasing number of frustrated punters . Food offering very value orientated from a standard menu.At the rear there is a raised area with two pool tables but the mixture of high tables, dining tables and sofas give this place a very generic ,plastic bar feel.Alcohol pricing a little higher than 'spoons but the clientele is similarly intoxicated. Not very inviting.

Great pub, lots of atmosphere, great selection of beers and friendly staff. Impressed!!

Contrary to the last reviewer,"Hertsgal", i've used the Old Post Office for a number of years, and have always found the staff happy and attentive. The beer is always well kept, and the introduction of three Real Ale pumps has been a boon to business, giving the Wetherspoons next door more than a run for its money. The introduction of their new Spring/Summer food menu and the good possiblity of a Real Ale Beer Festival in the near future can only increase the popularity of this pub.

Went to this pub last weekend (friday night 20/03/2009), its nicely decorated which has been done a short time ago. Easy to park in Matalan car park. Has had a good reputation in the past as I always felt comfortable in there with my friends. Something has changed as its now full of undesireable boys who were dancing on pool tables, unhappy bar staff which were quite frankly, rude, clientelle that used to be there seems to have changed, lecherous doormen eating subway sandwiches and the smoking area is a total mess. I hope it improves as it used to be a 'hotspot' but both me and my friends will be avoiding it until it changes hopefully to how it was. Such a shame...
