We found this gem of a pub by accident during a short break in the area … and I'm really glad that we did. The Braintree Blonde was superb (I mean the beer, not some fair haired Essex barmaid). The landlord was very friendly and helpful and the freshly prepared food was top quality and very good value. The pub has an interesting collection of Laurel and Hardy memorabilia.

What a lovely pub! Great beer and a good choice. I had a pint of er, I can,t remember the name! but it was from the Sticklegs brewery. Very nice. Reasonable price and very friendly landlord. We went there on a Saturday lunchtime and the trade was fairly slow but that gave us time to look around. I bet it,s great in the winter, it has two open fires. Shame I had to drive on that day as I would have liked to sample the other beers. They have a beer festival coming up around the 23rd of Sept. Hope to make it there.

Yep, cracking pub. We went for the Hog Roast (a hog was roasted, oh yes!) and a good time was had by all. Andy and Dawn were ex-TREME-ly busy all afternoon but still did the mingle-with-the-punters thing at the end when time allowed.

I had a pint of Stoneleys which then ran out. After that, a coupla pints of strong cider and that was me for the day. Wimp, I know. Anyway, a top drawer selection of ales which I woudl have sampled had it been an evening.

The band were a fiddly-diddly folk mob who got the punters in the back room singing and clapping (but not dancing - no dance floor) to their mix of folk standards and their own take on Dylan covers and Buddy Holly classics. The service in the back was not that great - only one kid serving and he was way too strecthed, especially as he had to go to teh main bar for every drink, one at a time.

Yeah, good pub, would love to go back but it's a bit out-of-the-way for me. 9/10.

Brilliant village pub - really friendly. Excellent food also wide choice of vegetarian - great atmosphere. Always a good choice of real ales. They have a great venue at the back and have live bands once a month or so. 2 huge log fires in the winter where it's great to sit with a pint after a cold winters walk. Dog friendly too! Can't rate it highly enough.

Nice traditional country pub in Little Bromley. The pub was previously known as The Fox and Hounds up until last August. 4 hand pumps on in the main bar and the beer festival this weekend is housed in the back room. We had seen a number of adverts about the August bank holiday beer festival so decided to take a look. We took a few steps into the pub and were astonished to be asked for 5.00. We paid then asked what this actually gave us. We were told that this did not cover the festival glass it was for the band. This was a surprise to us as this was not mentioned in the advert we had seen in the Clacton beer festival programme. We think this is a bit naughty for one thing as we would be leaving before the band had arrived. Secondly, as normally if a band is booked by a pub it is the pub that pays the band not the punters. After questioning we were given a token to redeem the price if we left before the band arrived. This is a dangerous precedent to set as people may not stay tonight at learning about this entrance fee.

The beer festival has 23 real ales and real ciders. A good selection of real ale was on offer and quite a nice commemorative tankard. From the varied selection we drank our favourite was the Rutland Beast. The back room is an excellent location for having entertainment with a stage and dance floor. I just hope next time that they let people know in advance before they charge people entrance! It is the owners first beer festival so they will learn out of the events of the weekend. Outside there is quite a lot of seating and a large car park.
