Had a fantastic evening here. Three ales on including Castle Ale, which Greene King brew especially for The Castle Inn. Interesting selection of whiskies too.

Great service from friendly staff (especially Pete who made a real effort to make us feel welcome), good pub food reasonably priced, well behaved dogs and children welcome.

It's a Greene King pub, so I didn't expect too much. I was right. they only had one beer on the pumps - GK IPA. I had the Guinness.
The food was quite good, and very reasonably priced, but I think the deep fat fryer needed an oil change.
We would call back, though.

Visited for the 1st time today. Beers on offer were all Greene King and so I did not try them. Food was really good and great price. Serving staff extremely helpful. Would go back when in Bakewell.

On the ale front this offers a couple of real ales which seem to be kept fairly well. However the place is aiming for the food market and is furnished as such. Serves food until 10pm (most other pubs in the locality finish at 8pm) and is advertised as such outside, however my partner received brusque service from the barman when we ordered main course food at 9:15pm ("...you CAN'T have desserts, because the kitchen will be CLOSED by then...") as it was we weren't planning on desserts but he didn't know that, so why the arrogance? Sadly this guy's attitude spoilt the place for me so it's getting a bad review. The food we had was ok though.

My experience is slightly different to Gristy's! Perhaps I went at a different time. This is the best pub in Bakewell. It has the Greene King straitjacket, yes, but Abbeydale Moonshine was on when I went in which is a hint that the management are making the effort. The lady that has served me the last two times I have been in has been lovely, fellow drinkers have been friendly. the conversation last time was about Shane Meadows films, and the previous time I was allowed to temporarily adopt a dog and play throw-ball with it. This is an excellent locals and visitors pub due to the efforts of the staff, none of whom I know or am related to!

Bakewell is a bit "meh" when it comes to pubs. Being so heavily touristic means there isn't really a true "locals" pub where you feel you can just sit and have a good local beer, take in the old-fashioned surroundings and not feel as though you are always in a family dining experience. This is no different - Greene King owned and nothing approaching a local beer on tap, although the Black Sheep was perfectly OK. Fairly heavy accent on eating with more of the feel of a restaurant - albeit with a dartboard area at one side of the bar and a flatscreen for sport at the other end. Menu looked reasonably good, but not sure I could be dragged back in again.

Quite a nice pub. Has an outdoor beer garden although not as cozy as the Queens over the road. Inside it is quite traditional and in my opinion more of a place where you go for lunch than a drinking session.

It has very good food here and also vegetarian options for those veggies out there. Beer is good and toilets are standard but clean.

Would recommend for a bite to eat.
