Cellar style bar just behind the shopping street and stumbling distance back to my hotel!

It has an entry in the 2014 GBG and I presume its for the amount of ales and their condition more than the bar itself that is the reason it appears in the GBG.

7 ales on the taps, my choice was Fernandes Breweries Good Night Vienna @ 4.0%, a decent range of ales, all different with the 8th pump being empty.

Came in around 10pm and it was very busy with quite a few of the customers showing signs of having too many, the barmaid was also sluring so maybe she had been enjoying a few jars herself!

Okay place but i did feel we had wandered into someone else's party.

The only decent pub in the town if our recent visit is anything to go by, fine real ales and a friendly barman made for a very pleasent stay in this clean, smart bar.
Odds and sods game is a nice quirk and meant us winning a free round, very welcome!

many quality micro brew ales. lots of sky sports screens - visited when Newcastle stuffed Man U 2-0 in the league

Last stop on my flying visit - details a bit fuzzy. Ale excellent and a free round due to rolling the right dice meant I headed off for the train back to York with a decent bottle of ale to keep me company. Very lively place.

Not sure what market theyre aiming for here. A couple of beers from SIBs, in fine nick so a good start.
No character, not enough chairs, too many televisions. Saturday night was middle-aged blokes dressed like 20-somethings standing up drinking Bud from the bottle and perving at teenagers and hen-party goers. I could see fights kicking off here (there was one (small) doorman).
Dinner times and early evenings might be better.

Recently revisited. I liked this place on a previous visit a few years ago. Not so this time. 3 large screens showing Sky football at high volume. The place was quite busy when I first went in as it was the tail end of happy hour. It soon started to empty until about 6 customers were left. Still the Sky TV was at huge volume. The beer was excellent but this alone does not make a great pub. Naff sports bar atmosphere which should be resigned to the 90's dustbin where it belongs. 4/10.

One of the better pubs in Scarborough with the beer in good condition - there were about 5 on when we turned up. Nice place.

Scarborough on a Sunday in January should = dead, well this place was quiet but certainly not dead and I think that's testament to the great selection of real ale in good condition. it is technically a bar in a hotel (The Bedford Hotel I believe) but to all intents and purposes it's a great Scarborough pub, one of the top 3 pubs in Scarborough, the others are The Valley and The North Riding. The Scarborough pub scene is suffering right now but this pub is doing well, work it out for yourself! Always has the very excellent Durham beers on tap.

The Skipton Copper Pippin was that good here my plan to do several pubs in Scarboro went down the pan. It was that good I had a gallon. We arrived along at 1201 to find gates locked but they were swiftly opened by a friendly barman. The service was good but I kept hearing bells!!!! The landlord was up to something.... quasimodo appreciation society I'd say. Like the previous poster says the tellys were loud and irrelevant-a good rock jukebox would have made this place perfect. But still, definitely a must visit in Scarborough.

Excellent selection of ales yesterday, all of the ones I tried were in good nick. Quick and efficient service even though it was pretty busy. Only compaint I'd make was that the TV showing Sky Sports was rather loud.

This place is loved by the locals, but I'm really not sure why. It tends to be filled with oiks and football/sport is pumped through the TVs 24/7. Beer not great either.

I have to echo the worthy comments posted here. There was footy on when we visited, but did not detract from the beer, service and good atmosphere (the game was Arsenal v Chelsea). Quite a mixed crowd. Had a couple of different beers, Strongarm being one, i think.

Would always visit

A modern refit bar, with a heavy slant towards sport and good ale.

Whilst the exterior and interior are nothing to write home about, they are clean and inviting whilst the bar area serves up 4 real ales with a local slant, all in excellent condition on my visit.

There was no sport on when I was there but there was still a pretty good atmosphere and I was happy to stay for a couple.

All in all, a tidy place to enjoy a few ales with the football and a good place for a younger drinker like myself. I rather liked it; possibly my favourite GBG pub visited here.

Cracking pub for service and quality ales. The manager, Dan is excellent. From Sunday to Thursday you get to roll 2 dice when you buy a beer or a round. If you get an odd number you get the same again for free!

Good place for sport and decent background music. Highly recommendable.

Great place to come for some good ale and it's just around the corner from some of the best restaurants in Scarborough. Modern bar that's actually part of a hotel but doesn't feel like it. Usually has 4 beers on handpump often featuring Durham and York breweries. Always a good pint and the service is OK as well. Can get noisy on a Friday/Saturday night as it's on the circuit for drinkers in this part of the town.

Decent enough pint, pubs nothing special though.

Recommended this pub after a visit in April as it had good real ales available. Enjoyed one from Fernandes and one from Durham brewery. Recently refurbished.
