Lovely village local that opens at 11:30. We chose this as a starting point for a 10-pub Dorset crawl, as many (including this one) close during the afternoon. We arrived to find the lights switched off. We were the first in and it was deadly quiet. Ales were Sharp's Doom Bar, Hopback Summer Lightning & Dartmoor Best. But I was more impressed with the cider range - Lilley's Somerset Scrumpy, Red Rabbit & Mango Cider, along with Dorset Nectar Old Harry Rocks. 3 other locals walked in. A couple were in for lunch and another guy was obviously a local drinker. You enter through a hallway, which feels like somebody's house. Beyond is the bar and a restaurant area. One of the best pubs we visited on Saturday.

This is a gem as others have noted. Out-of-the-way, but very much worth the trip. It is a friendly, old-fashioned local, with good beer (including Exmoor Antler) and very good, inexpensive food. No TV, no jukebox, no Sky Sports (thank goodness), but some very good conversation with the locals. Some very lovely, friendly but sleepy dogs lolling about on the flagstone floors. 9/10

You can't go wrong by visiting this rural gem. Grub is slightly pricey but worth the money. Beers are always excellent and Alan and Cheryl run a tight ship. Version of the Norfolk pub game 'Twister' on the bar wall made by a local pub games enthusiast. Definitely the place to go, and even better as mobile phones won't work here...

Built in 1851 as a thatched Inn and in hands of present landlord Alan for last 16yrs. To his credit little has changed bar excavation of fire place in eating area. Lovely original flagstone floor & cosy bar area with log burners. 3 hand pulls and today the weak beer (Masterbrew) had gone, Otter Ale was not best, but Otter Claus 5% was in good condition. Menu a bit odd, but food is excellent, if a tad expensive Bangers+Mash 9-95. Otherwise, a lovely unspoilt village pub.

Great country pub just like it should be. Alan and Cheryl are great hosts, always excellently kept range of beers and really goodlocal food, been there in winter, great crackling fire and cosy homely feel, and in the summer lovely garden on several terraces to laze around in, looking at the sky and supping a perfect pint (or three...)

Please keep away from this pub. The landlord selects excellent beers and keeps them perfectly. The food is home-made with fresh ingredients. The interior hasn't changed (i.e. been mucked about) during the forty years or so that I've been going there. The people you meet (usually) have interesting things to say. This pub is perfect. Please do not spoil it for me by going there.
