Business is business m8.

More staff costs, as well.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

It's the real world.

Monday 18th June
Just because of the World Cup Stonegate have suspended the £2.50 real ale deal
Just to make more money and sod the customers

I'm glad to hear that the Ember trappings have gone.

The inside floor level is somewhat lower than the outside pavement, and the many windows onto the legs of passers-by can give a sensation of having gone down in the world, which for me was more bothersome than one might expect.

Still, it's probably about the best in the vicinity.

This has recently been redecorated inside and out. The old gold lettering has gone, replaced by a white on black signs similar to the Leg of Mutton and Cauliflower. All the furniture has been replaced inside with standard sized tables and chairs so there is a lot more seating room than before. All vestigates of Ember Inn's decor has been removed. Even the pumps have been tidied up, the spare handpumps have gone and new T-bars are used for the lagers and cider. The coffee machine has moved to the other side of the bar. Beer choice is fair but a bit boring. Food menu similarly has all items on the safe side, there is nothing spicey i.e. curry. However, overall the improvements are worthwhile and it is still my favourite Ashtead pub.

Recently had a minor refurbishment i e repainting inside and out and new furniture but otherwise basically the same
In reply to BMB I have lived in Ashtead all my life and the Brewery has never been called the Brewery Tap.Also I was there with my mother on Mothers Day and it was not empty plus I had the roast beef and it was perfect. Are you sure you posted your comment to the correct Brewery

bitterlover - 30 Jun 2011 14:20
I have visited the Brewery frequently over the years even in the days when it was called the Brewery Tap. For the first time since last summer I visited again on Mothers day for lunch and was very disappointed to find the food almost inedible. The meat on the steak and roast beef offering was so cheap and tough most of it remained uneaten. The vegetables were also only partly cooked. I should have guessed the pub had gone downhill as it was virtually empty at 1pm on a Mothering Sunday. The beer and service were Ok, but give the food a miss.

Maybe three ales usually on offer (one last time !),...but none from any of our local breweries...why do we have to drink ale from Barnsley and "upth north "when we have award winning local breweries ( and I certainly do not consider Youngs/Courage or even Fullers as local). What is it with ember inns?
jeffdaff - 16 Jan 2011 21:53
Unexpectedly large selection of real ale on offer. As well as London Pride and Courage, there three others - Roosters Outlaw Wrangler, Wychwood's January Ale and Springhead's Polar Bear. It seemed to be down to a special Ember Inns January promotion. The staff said they normally had three ales on offer, but had been pressed for five, and it had gone down well. They were only 2.50 a pint.

Music was a bit loud, but as the pub has lots of areas, it is possible to avoid it. Board games were available, and being used. Some of the younger growd were in there, but they didn't fill the place out.

Best pub in Ashtead (although that isn't saying a lot). Moorhouse Pride of Pendle and Deuchars IPA both good.

One beer of note being Moorhouses Pride of Pendle. Others were Deuchars, Pride, GK IPA and Youngs Ordinary. Cleaned up since I was last in here many years ago.

An Ember Inns pub, so reasonably-priced beer and food (but not quite as cheap as Wetherspoons). Nothing special, but several real ales to choose from, and a nice enough atmosphere for a chain pub.

Went there on Saturday night. Nice pub and a great selection of drinks and pleasant friendly bar staff. Nice beer garden which i was suprised was not busier. The only down point was the two guys dripping in Elizabeth Duke gold chains and playing music out of thier mobile phone something that drives me up the wall.

Pretty good beer, nice surroundings and OK staff.

A friendly pub with a good range of real ales. Becoming popular with young people. A part of the Ember Inns chain so food very predictable but reasonably cheap.

Very friendly staff, but it was a little quiet for a sunday afternoon. Food was reasonable (better than cooking yourself and at a price that was hard to quibble about) The non-smoking area was very quiet and well ventilated, which met the approval of my pregnant wife.

It's got a lot friendlier since the grumpy Glaswegian manager left.
Angus - 7 Aug 2006 11:01
This must be one of the friendliest pubs in the area, far better than the Woodman, and the choice of bitter is better as well.
bitterlover - 19 Jul 2006 15:09
Totally agree that the non-smoking area in this pub is a disgrace! Went to the non-smoking area last week with my grandparents (one of them has severe breathing problems!) and five minutes, a group of men in their 40's, sat down and started smoking! Told the person behind the bar, and he told me could nothing about it as they were 'regulars'. I could not believe that the over grown oafs could not move elsewhere (as there were plenty of seats elsewhere!). Anyway, I spoke to them, and they showered me with obscentities and started making fun of my grandparents (ie. that they should be out so late, belong in an old people's home etc.) Never again, will I step foot in this public house. If the brewery reads this, revamp the non-smoking area or else.....

After the recent renovations, this pub is now excellent and a couple of nice hand-pulled real ales. The upstairs no smoking area is pointless - - half the area is for smokers! That really screws things up for me because the missus takes one sniff and out we go - the lack of a no smoking area in any pub really puts a serious crimp in my lifestyle.

I went there last night and it seemed a friendly place to me! All the staff who I met were friendly even some scottish bloke in there. Don't know who Steve is or why he resigned but it seems to run well enough witout him. I'm sure he's lovely though.

Went there last night, seemed great to me. Quite bright visually, sat in the beer garden which was lovely. Nice glass of pimms, driving so could not have anything more. Will probably go back at some point..

I quite like the place myself! (and I don't have a girlfriend who works there)Think the manager is a really nice bloke and the staff that they have now seem very friendly too. Would recommend that people go down to enjoy the sun in the garden- and try the cocktails!

Smashing pub recently refurbed with ample seating and a large beer garden Food is nice and good value and there is a large selection of well kept beers. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Well worth a visit.
