Fantastic pub with not so much as a beer garden as a beer field. The 12 cask ales all priced at £3.60 a pint were Woodforde's Wherry and Nelsons Revenge, Norfolk Brewhouse's Pacific IPA (these 3 were dispensed via handpull), Colchester's Metropolis, Newby Wyke's Kingston Topaz, 8 Sail's Live & Kicking, Wild Craft's Wild Summer and Wild Bill Hiccup, Tombstone's Marshals. Raw's JR Best, Green Jack's Lurcher Stout and Billericay's Vanilla Mild (these 9 guests came straight from the cask). There were also 15 real ciders priced at £4 a pint (including Cockeyed's Copper Beech, Snails Bank's Rhubarb, Very Perry and Pig Squeal, Farmer Jims Medium and Dry, Tombstone's Snake Oil and Westons Old Rosie).

Great free house. Must have been at least 8 ales available when I called in while holidaying in the area last week, and as many ciders. Had a lovely pint of Tombstone; shame I was driving or I'd have tried some more. Interesting surroundings (Nelson memorabilia and various firearms on display), good service from cheerful staff and the grub was nice too. Made me wish I lived round here so I could visit this pub often.

Nice location, but apparently a Woodfordes tied house these days, with nothing else on when we called.

Visited on a wet September weekday afternoon with wife and our 5 month old. Very quiet, just a local chap with his dog and a few hardy walkers. Roaring log fire was going, and Bowie playing softly in the background. Made to feel very welcome by extremely pleasant barmaid, who let me try a few beers and chatted happily throughout. Settled on the Mardler's Mild then a pint of Norwich Castle, both great. These are the places that make British holidays worthwhile despite the foul weather!

I was there a week after Hodge1 and agree with their review, although I did eat here would score the pub highly for atmosphere, beer quality (mainly from Woodforde's) and friendliness of the staff. However the food was way below average and I'd choose to eat in Winterton and then resort here for a beer at sunset.

A bit of a Broadland institution is this pub, its been a regular Good Beer Guide entry for years, situated down a tiny lane in the hamlet of Horsey, its interior is unspoilt and decorated with a large collection of antique guns, the huge duck gun over the mantelpiece needs to be seen to be believed! Beer was good, Woodfordes Nelson Revenge on form, can't vouch for the food, but it looked ok.

We called in on 2nd September for a pub lunch. Everything seemed nice friendly staff until we ordered the steak n ale pie. This was very chewy and generally not too good. On leaving the pub about 3 hours later the food poisoning kicked in :-( Two of us had the steak n ale pie two had a ham sandwich. The two having eaten the pies both ended up with food poisoning. All in all not a great end to a fantastic holiday.

What a superb country pub! Excellent Woodfordes beer served in tip top condition and at very reasonable prices. The food was very good and again all at reasonable prices.
A great pub well worth a visit for a pint as well as for the food.

We will definitely be visiting this pub again when we are in the area.

Lovely pub, friendly staff, hearty food. Serves a good pint of Woodforde's. Also caters for lager drinkers. In an isolated spot,so will close early if no one turns up,recommended pub, stayed next door and was in most nights.I'd go to more pubs in London if they were like this one.

Excellent Pub. Good and reasonably priced food, freindly staff and the beer was very well kept. Superb pint (or three!) of Wherry. Its off the beaten track, but worth a visit.

A real gem. We called after a day's walking, cold & knackered. Roaring fire, fine ales, good food and an eclectic collection of everything. Spotlessly clean and friendly place. The beer must have been good because when we walked back down the beach at dusk we thought the beach was covered in seals ........

Agree with everything SPB, has written. We called in for food, on a stinker of a day, pouring rain and blowing a gale. Lovely food, good beer, great fire and warm frendly greeting more than made up for the lousy weather.

A gem of a pub, completely unspoilt. Enjoy a pint of Nelson's Revenge.Good food. Fantastic open fire.
