This pub is now called the Toll Bar. We stopped by, but found all of the real ales off. The barman said they'd all sold out. Normally I'd stay and have a keg beer/cider. But I didn't want this to be my last pub in Nottingham as we were on the way back to the station. So we walked back out. I'll return one day. Hopefully there'll be some beer on by then.

A port in a storm for this thirsty traveller on a warm Sunday in July. Publican was suffering from work aversion & only John Smith's (2.60) was available, after all the other stuff was apparently consumed the night before. Whatever, the pint was okay, and the work shy bloke chatty, so a pleasant half hour was had.

I went here with colleagues one Friday for drinks as it is just round the corner, soon discovered the place is run by a moron who thinks it's socially acceptable to throw lemon wedges at paying customers. Bar staff were and still are condescending rats.

Not quite sure what planet modrinkin is on, yes it is a bit expensive but the Ale is excellent, how can you ever use the phrase "cracking pint of John Smiths" and expect to be taken seriuosly???

Very expensive pub, used to do a cracking pint of John Smiths this as been taken off now, gone downhill since Charlie took over from Andrea, avoid at all costs.

Retreated here on Saturday after the Nottingham Beer Festival had run out of beer. All the ales on the bar were on the list for the festival, so the evening was saved on that account. All were in tip-top condition. The place was quite busy but service at the bar was efficient and friendly.Only black mark - one of the fire exits was locked shut.

Nice place. Lots of well-kept real ales and comfortable seating. The decor is a little 'wine bar-esque' but the ales and good (if a little expensive) food more than make up for it.

I think that "ROBcamra" must have been unlucky when he called here - there is normally a good choice of well-kept real ales, as there was when I called in last Friday on the Mild Trail. Could I also, as Chair of Nottingham CAMRA, point out that despite the name used, he does not represent CAMRA or the Nottingham Branch of CAMRA.

The Gatehouse got voted best pint in Nottingham in March 2009 for its Rock Bitter, its definitely not got a feeling of hotel bar as its always full of regulars and has a good buzz about the place. I like it as you dont get any idiots in, it always feels safe.

Me and my mates fell upon the Gatehouse last year, its a cracking little bar with a great atmosphere. It is possibly the cleanest pub in town and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The best thing about the place is the food, they sell the best burgers in town, none of this cardboard rubbish. My mate thinks the allday brunch is the winner though; the only place in town thats capable of serving an english breakfast thats grease free with proper meat on it. It is now our regular haunt when we are in town on a saturday, we eat away our hangovers watching the world go by on the heated patio. Big up The Gatehouse...

Slowly drifting downhill from it's entry in the GBG last year. At it's height it always had 4 or 5 interesting ales on tap all well kept. Went in last week on a Friday and they had 1 on and it was OK rather than great. They also close at 11 now even at weekend. I don't know what has changed behind the scenes, but it's not really worth a visit anymore unless you happen to be passing.

Some people I know don't like the place as the atmosphere is more "hotel bar" than pub. I have no problems with it. It's clean, and I've found the staff to be friendly. The beer is excellent.

Nice bar, although a wee bit expensive.

Small single room bar, decent beer but not a stand-out.

Great Pub. But don't start singing, or you will be asked to 'shut it'
