I think it's been smartened up a little since my last visit which is a good sign. Perhaps the refurbishment has been funded by the increase in food prices which are now consistent with other pubs in the area. Sadly the beer quality has gone downhill or, at least it had yesterday. My £4.10 pints of Reverend James and Butty Bach both clearly tasted of diacetyl and the Wye Valley HPA also had the same butterscotch taste albeit not so obvious which suggested an issue with line cleaning; I didn't try the Doom Bar. My starter was good and my steak and ale pie was tasty but really should have been described as a puff pastry lid with gravy underneath. The scone bread and butter pudding was interesting (in a good way). Service was friendly which eased the pain of indifferent beer a little.

17th century pub with timber framed interior which has smart-looking modern furniture inside which suits the building well. Most tables look as if they would suit diners better although there are a couple of leather sofas to the left-hand side of the bar. We sat outside yesterday lunchtime on the picnic tables enjoying the midday sun and the excellent value £6.50 main courses. Add pints of excellent Butty Bach and very good Hobsons Twisted Spire at £3.20 each and this was an experience to hopefully be repeated soon.

My favourite place for a beer apart from ye cracke in Liverpool. Good food and attentive service. Addressing the comment below asking why the servers don't take the long route round the pub to take food to the tables, it would be due to that route going straight past the toilet entrances in the back corridor. Mystery solved! Health and Safety = good food and good beer.

A well run pub that at last has landlords who know what they are doing, and good staff, mondays& wednesdays are cheap steak/ fish nights, fillet steak on wed for fiver is superb, other nights good pub food. Nice log fires in winter and tables outside overlooking village green make this the locals choice. Can get busy and it is a mystery why serving staff take food the long way round the pub to tables when it would be more convenient for everyone if they went the other way to and from kitchen. Bands on last Friday of month only now, so not such a crush, and dining upstairs for larger parties, and T last they have a credit card machine. Only current criticism is that the real ale is very inconsistent, good most of the time though, perhaps too many taps not enough quantity going through each

We enjoyed a nice meal here yesterday, and experienced no such stomach problems. The landlady was extremely friendly and the place was busy with diners both inside and out. Four caskales were on - Wye Vally Bitter & Butty Bach, Draight Bass and Flowers IPA. The view over the village green to the church is relatively impressive.

Dreadful place. The food was awful and the hygiene is suspect. We had stomach problems afterwards and I know from talking to others since our visit that we aren't the first! They certainly won't see me in there again - until the landlord changes, which I hope is soon!

Enjoyable Friday evening with an excellent meal. Putting a 5 piece band on was a bit of a mistake as you had to dodge the singer to get to the toilets. It worked though.

Recent land lord change and total re furbishment , pool table and darts board , very popular , Sunday lunch must be booked in advance , bands most Friday nights , village green to look out over in summer from benches outside , highly recommended especially the food for quality and size of portions . Real friendly warm contry pub , perect for the village community .
