They say all good things come in small packages, and this is definately true of The Sportsman. It's the best pub in the area and I would recommend it for all ages - a rare thing for pubs these days. The customers are friendly and welcoming, and I have never known there to be any fights since I have been using the pub (the landlord and regulars wouldn't stand for any trouble!) There is good selection of well kept lagers, beers, wines and soft drinks. There are regular party nights and events that are always good fun. The outdoor smokers area is particularly luxurious with tv and good cover. I have noticed one negative review of this pub, but I am sure that it has been confused with 'The Sports Bar' (The Angel) in Strood. One visit to The Spotsman and you'll be a regular!

A friend reccommended the sportsman to me a few years ago and once I found it I never really left. The landlord and his wife are both graet and make everyone feel welcome.

I have worked here part time for about 4 years ish and there's not a better pub in medway. Clean, tidy, friendly and such a laugh. I have only seen about 2 fights break out that whole time and that was before the current landlord/landlady took over. The locals are all fantastic people and we always welcome a new face. This is a brilliant pub for all age groups I would reccomend it to any one from any walk of life. Love to the Sports xx

Dear Pub Truth, What colour is the sky on your planet? The Sportsman is by far the best boozer in Strood. I think Daz has summed it up, you were drinking in The Angel. It's easy to tell the difference, when you walk in the Sportsman you are greeted with a smile, In The Angel you walk through the door and then climb through the ropes. Hope your eyesight gets better soon.

pub_truth...you've clearly gone and got yourself all confused and mistaken The Sportsman with The Angel (the sports bar in the high street), it's actually a common mistake, a lot of people have made that exact same mistake in front of me. The Sportsman's a fantastic place run by fantastic people, so if you could, just verify this as a mistake, cheers pal. Daz.

The previous poster nust have reviewed the wrong pub, I dont recognise the place from his post. This is a lovely backstreet pub with a great friendly atmosphere. There is Sky showing sporting events, befitting of its name. The decor is very up to date, the womens toilets especially are pristene. The outdoor smoking area is the best in the area by far, with patio heaters for the winter, and another tv showing Sky. The pub has a bat and trap team, a sunday league football team and also has links to the Medway rugby club. There are occasional events on weekends, karaoke, live guuitarists etc. The locals are friendly, as are the landlord, landlady and barstaff, this is my favourite pub in medway, highly recommend for an enjoyable evening.

This is a top pub friendly and inviting, nice staff with nice landlords, nice atmosphere with no trouble. they have re-ferbed the place after the sad loss of the landlord. fresh and up to date done with taste. if you fancy a local drink try it out. you will not be disapointed.
