please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Average place really.

Feels a bit like an estate pub but is in the town, also was way too light in here for my liking.

Was quite cheap though which is good.

6/10

Ignore the old reviews
This is a proper, well-run, civilised town pub offering good beers (inc 2 or 3 real ales) & decent well-priced food. Sky Sports and (most of) BT Sport shown on several screens - 3 channels can be shown at once. Excellent wi-fi
Bands on most Saturdays. 2 skittle alleys and a beer garden at the back. Carpark outside
No bad behaviour is accepted but it's a lively enough atmosphere with plenty of banter, depending on where you choose to sit/stand. The staff are hard-working & very friendly
Who could ask for more? Not me!

I left a post on this pub some time ago pointing out that the so called cask conditioned ale tasted more like keg. This post was removed, probably at the request of the pub, but the fact remains that the so called real ale is nothing of the sort.
They have spent some money on a minor refurb since my last vist; new carpets and such like, but essentially it remains the same, and best avoided. there are better pubs in Taunton, a town not overly blessed with good pubs by any means

Another Taunton pub that has closed. The good ones are still open however!

I feel these reviews are a bit harsh, Ok it wasn't the pub it was when John ran it, but the food was always great value scrummy pub grub - the best in the area ! I hear it may be open again soon? lets hope so for the grub / games / jukebox - good atmos when full...

Very average ale. Very average food. Even a very average quiz on Thursdays. All in all an extremely average pub. Except when there was a right old fracas about the quiz when two teams complained bitterly that their answers were right and the quiz mistress (landlady) was wrong. So the landlady threw a right strop and threatened never to run a quiz again. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. Thursday quiz nights are the only times there's more than a handful of people in the place. But with apologies made, a calm ascended and the quiz continues. Still, it was entertaining while it lasted. I wish all quiz nights were like that one.

Hammers101 seems to have hit the nail on the head. O.K. if you like to go out to watch T.V. In addition to the big screen on the wall, they even have mini sized screens on the bar so you don't have to miss a thing, even when you're waiting to be served.
Thursday night seems to be the "fun night" when they have Bingo for those that like that sort of thing.

local type boozer, miserable landlady/barmaid? Not a place for laughter, it may be construed as having a good time and that wont do here

Must be getting desparate.

We just received a flyer in the mail from the Kings Arms. Voucher for a free drink, pudding etc.

Aspires to be mundane.
Just about manages to do so.
Exmoor not worth drinking

The Exmoor Ale was good, but the rest of my pub experience was dire. Big pub with little ideas.

The beer was OK, but we had just visited The Black Horse. Erm.....souless.

They may not encourage strangers to drink here, but the locals seem to get plenty of encouragement, not that seem to need much by the state of them.

with regards to the previous reviewer, welcome to Staplegrove!. drink up and carry on to the next pub. Lots of pubs do not encourage strangers to drink there

There's something about this pub I can't put my finger on. It has something of the atmosphere of a holiday camp bar on a rainy day in the off season. People seem to be there because they can't think of anything better to do. All very depressing.
