Salt and vinegar fumes hit you (really was strong) as you walk in through the door into the bar. Perhaps they should invest in an extractor or bring back smoking or something. Very foody and brightly lit.

A large mahogany effect bar dominates the entrance room with an assortment of vintage repro lighting. Open plan with room "reserved for diners" off to the right as you come in and further rooms to the right at the back. It has a rather hotely winebar feel except for the Turkish carpet which gives it a more traditional feel.

However it has a good atmosphere with a lot of locals drinking at the bar and the beer was good. Thwaites' Wainwright and Original both very well kept at a good temp (not cold at all) Original was good but a bit watery compared to the Wainwright which was excellent.

May have visited too early on in the night as there was a pool table in one area off to the right which may hint at the fact that it reverts to a pub later on.

Pudding and a pint? Yuk! But looking at the food and the portions I think it would be a nice place for something to eat at lunchtime. The staff seemed very friendly too.

The Red Lion is a great pub situated between Ellesmere town centre and the mere. Run by Mike and Carol, together with their team of very friendly staff, they offer good cask beer with a great selection of wines and spirits. There is a seating area at the front of the pub and a brightly painted patio area at the back complete with patio heaters. Excellent home-cooked food is available at reasonable prices with huge portions being served. The letting rooms are spacious and comfortable and the breakfast is most definitely highly recommended!!

Reasonably largish Pub with accomodation on the main through Road in Ellesmere. Very Friendly and socialable Landlord (Mike)who took interest in his customers and made them feel very welcome. The young Lady behind the Bar serving, had eyes to Die for and a lovely personality too!The Food I ordered was of a very good Quality and Damn plenty of it! Seems quite a locals Pub so people know each other well in here. I stayed the night in what was a Huge Room and Shower/Toilet room en suite and a Massive Bed that i could only occupy one little corner of (was on my own) A well Cooked large Full English Breakfast. Overall a very pleasant Experience
