As Yamato suggests, It'll 'Kick Off' any time now.

Absolute garbage.

Tonight they had Bank Top Flat Cap and the ubiquitous, awful Tetley 'Cask'.

I asked for a taster of the Flat Cap but due to the fact Cask doesn't 'move' that well it smelt dreadful.

Having said that, It was somewhat entertaining when the bar staff decided to pass around the offending 'Taster' and tried to portray an air of indignation that I had had the audacity to actually complain.

Thank god the Crown was only a short windswept stroll away.

The reversion to the previous name of THE SADDLE and the makeover have served to breath new life into this long neglected pub. That said, the overall atmosphere still has that air of manace bubbling under the suface which threatens to errupt at any time.

Thankfully shaken off the childish name and now back to being called the Saddle. The re fit has been very well done although it does have a 'spoons feel about it, but at 1.75 for a pint of decent Bank Top it can be forgiven for that.
One small observation, it could do with loosing the bar stools as the bar is to small for a pub of its size and getting served can be difficult when ignorant people wont move out of the way. Apart from that I can see it becoming very popular indeed

Redevelopment coming shortly, although I hear that real ale will not be on offer. No change there then!

red...a well known local 'woman'

is barred from the plucker

and many more......

It'd be a shame if it closed but it hasn't tempted me inside for years, so I can say no more. Reverting to being called "The Saddle" would be a good start. View through rear gates of the "beer garden" which appears to consist of a knackered settee is a real treat.

True, this pub is not the most salubrious in Horwich. However, the landlord is hilarious (in the best possible way!). He makes a great effort with what little he has to go along with. I do hope that the fortunes of this place experience a turn for the better. The landlord deserves it!!

A filthy dirty pub, the person we were stood with was viewing it to consider it to buy.......the landlord according the bar staff was having a shower. The bar staff in question, an 18 ish year old was busy gossiping with her mate whilst downing her pint, behind the bar whilst serving. No locks on the toilets in the ladies. And then because she had heard the person with us calling her for her demeanor, refused to serve us another drink. Since there were only half a dozen at the bar she should have been glad of the custom. But there again, the majority of the customers were under the age of 18.......

At the moment tis shut! However, lights been seen on and car parked out back so maybe we'll see some life in the old place soon ... hopefully for the better!

This place doesn't seem welcoming... bars and boards over the window etc. However I went in once, to use the gents toilets, which were disgusting, no locks on the doors etc. There was also no toilet roll so I nipped into the disabled loo which scared me, because I opened the door and it was full from floor to ceiling with junk, old christmas trees, boxes, buckets etc, you couldn't even SEE the toilet inside. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I had to ask at the bar for toilet paper and the barmaid brought a gigantic roll of toilet paper out and passed it me over the bar. Embarrassing.

Went in the other day and there were two people at the bar and no bar staff behind the bar so didn't stop!

in here on Saturday nite ... grim!

Agree with anonymous, they do really need to change the name back to the Saddle. Stayed for one on Sunday and the music wasn't bad but we prefer the clientele at other pubs ...

more karaoke - going to keep clear til they change the record
bonnie.n.clyde - 5 Mar 2009 14:00
more commonly known as the saddle, is now in the hands of Paul, who has been here for a few months ... busy busy from Thursday to Sunday but please, please can we have a night without the karaoke!

The saddle has been under the capable hands of nick the landlord now for nearly a year, there is no trouble anymore because its always calmly dealt with and the trouble makers evicted. It is most definitely one of the better pubs in horwich, more or less the girls who work there and well-liked and easy to get along with. Id recommend saturday night, for a good one- sarah and alex tend to get the customers drunk and the dj gets them dancing! But any week night the saddle is full of friendly regulars, theres always someone to talk to, a game to join in on and a few laughs to be had.

Now you just need to change the name back!
anonymous - 27 Mar 2007 19:38
The name says it all, over chilled keg beer and lager, over loud layabouts.
One to avoid.
inspectorblakey - 22 Mar 2007 13:07
used to be called the saddle in the days when pubs had vaults now been made open plan.decent enough pub but constant change of tennants does it no favours. rumours going round it is to be renamed the saddle again, that would be the decent thing to do.
