CLOSED - bar area being gutted as of 4.1.2011.

Oh dear.

Wandered in for an afternoon pint. Hardly anyone in there and when I asked the barman which ales they had on currently he replied 'none'. Confused I asked why and he stated that they don't sell enough ale and so it just goes off. So now they've stopped selling any?!!

Shame as the pub is actually rather nice and has much potential.

Late afternoon and it was open.... alas no ale, no customers and no point staying.

It's my favourite pub in the area, it has a really friendly atmosphere and the drinks are much better priced than in the neighbouring gastropubs. They serve excellent Thai food too. Highly recommended!

visited for the second time on sat night as a meeting point for some friends. atmosphere was good with a nice mix of people. good selection on tap, tim taylors and two guest ales at 2.90 kept us there far longer than we intended.

One real ale (Deuchars IPA) on when I visited on Friday night, which wasn't what I was expecting based on recent reviews.

Potentially a great pub, but there were only a hand full of people in at 8pm, suggesting that the locals go elsewhere.

I always rate on the basis of the commitment to cask ale, beer snob that I am, so the average is going to fall a bit I'm afraid.

Wish I had the impression it was open and serving me this afternoon but it was shut. Is afternoon closing a regular thing ?

Top pub. Good range on pump, very friendly staff and landlord. You get the impression that they are open and serving because you are there. Jukebox and big Napoleonic-surgeon style wooden tables. Easily the best pub in the area at the moment. At no point was an attempt made to sell me an avocado based snack.

The pub has come under new management by the same people who own the woodbine in highbury and slim jim's liqour store on upper st. Therefore no surprises for having a jukebox with some rock classics playing out to the younger crowd that this pub pulls in.
With warm lighting, an open fire, beautiful antique arm chairs and polished wood The King of Denmark makes a good old english boozer. To top it off lovely bar staff, good beer, wine, ale and a nice range of spirits. Just what is needed in the area! Anytime of day this pubs perfect!

New management are from the Woodbine in Blackstock Rd. Early days yet but looking promising with a couple of real ales and another excellent junk box like the Woodbine.

This local boozer is Under New Management. Noticed this the other day as I walked past, so I just had to cross the threshold. Great first impression, REAL ALE and two open fires. My new local for sure. By the way the jukebox is second to none.

This is one classic pub. As a previous correspondent mentioned the age group is in the upper quartile but that did not stop anyone enjoying themselves. Being a lad in his 50's I was in great demand on the dance floor. The crowd had dressed for the evening the Elvis impersonator did a good job. Cannot comment on the mechanics of the place because I was too busy having a good time to really notice. Well worth a look.

This is my new favourite pub, in the entire world ever. I was on first name basis with the owner by the time I left - everyone in there is super friendly. It's a proper pensioners local, which is exactly why I loved it (I'm 26) as everyone is more than happy to chat. It's full of great kitsch British memorabilia and it reeks of Character.

It reminds me of the pub out of EastEnders, I witnessed a man walk in and the barman pull his pint for him without even asking - it's that kind of Local.

Go down and check it out, but don't tell too many people about this place otherwise it'll loose it's charm.

Oh, and they have a huge darts team that is normally here. They love their darts in here.

On a backstreet in Islingon. Odd opening hours - only wandered in because it was the first time I'd actually seen it open.

Clearly what one would call a "family local". Utterly charmless interior. No real ale - only Charles Well Eagle from the keg, so had to opt for a badly poured pint of Guinness.

Desperate looking lady in leather hammering away at the bandit.

Words fail me.
