Food is the strong point here and a friendly atmosphere from staff and locals alike. Ale is often iffy (just my experience sadly). That apart it offers good hearty food at sensible prices.

this is a first class country pub, the landlady is very welcoming, polite and extremely helpful. the chef is first class and will go out of his way to accomodate your food needs even at very busy times all the lagers and wines are very good. sunday lunches are to die for.

A vast improvement from my last visit - 3 ales on and the food remains excellent. Both the Summer Lightning and the Courage Best were first class. Outside has also been tidied up and the whole establishment is much more welcoming than previously. The pub has a good quorum of locals and is very welcoming to others. Well worth the effort.

Visited this pub on Wed 26 Aug'09.
GREAT beer. 4 real ales: 3 from "The Hidden Brewery". Food menu looked very nice but I didn't try any as only wanted beer. This is a nice quiet local country pub from what I saw. Big car park too.

One of the best 'main road countryside' pubs I've had the pleasure to visit. You have to take the sign on the front door ('Warm beer, lousy food, bad service. Welcome. Have a nice day') with a pinch of salt. They actually offer good beer, a wide range of reasonably-priced food, and a relaxed atmosphere, all adding to an enjoyable experience. Shame for the smelly old bloke and his mutt, who came over and rudely interrupted what would otherwise have been a perfect lunch.

The food here is excellent and the welcome from staff and locals alike is always warm. Watch out for Old John though - sit in his spot and the dog will get you.

A change of beers wouldn't go amiss, though. Maybe some local ones?

Smart roadside pub on the A338 heading north from Salisbury. New team since I was last there, exterior attractive, check out the bike. Interior continues the good impression, clean, tidy, with friendly and helpful staff.
The choice of cask beer is unimpressive with a very ordinary selection. Nonetheless, the beer itself was well kept and presented.
The menu looke good and the food itself was excellent, imaginatively presented, and certainly not overpriced. All in all a pleasant experience.
My rating? 7. I would have prefered to give it 7.5 if that were possible. With a a better choice of ale the rating would be higher.

New owners have spruced up the outside and inside as well as making the whole thing no-smoking. Good atmosphere, excellent Ringwood ales and great food.
