Returned here with a bit of a hangover on Sunday morning. Unlike the early hours the night before, there were no queues, no bouncers, entrance was free and there was no deafening music. It was still busy though with the pre-football crowd. Luckily they had a fair number of staff behind the bar. Ales were Greene King IPA, Hawkshead Windermere Pale, Sharps Doom Bar, Cumberland Corby Blonde, Morland Old Speckled Hen & Youngs Special. What better way to work off a hangover with a Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon cider! Not a bad option during the day. But I think the nearby Woodrow Wilson is better.

As ever does what it sells on the label. We needed quick food and a couple of pints whilst our steam loco was being serviced and they delivered. We know what to expect and that's what we get.

In here last Friday evening and only just past 8.00 and already the goons are at the door.
Music is very loud - most screens showing Man U v Seville with only one showing the Rugby League Wigan v Huddersfield game.
8 hand pulls split 4/4 at each end of the bar selling guest ale for £2.29 a pint.

Only Corby ale on sale - very lively - - okay to watch a match - bar staff and manager very pleasant/helpful

No character of course but caters for the smashed 19 yr old girls in mobs and solitary preditor types hunting his chavettes. Ok for football I think ok earlier in evening I suppose not what I would call a pub, however it does serve beer & ales! 7 by day 6 by night!

close by the railway station on the main street.
a large, open plan, single seating area, for about 200.
modern design. a bit dark inside.
mixed table & soft seating.

standard jdw menu.
6 cask ales on.

verdict:
fairly standard jdw.
I like wetherspoons but I much prefer the older, restored buildings they use.
a 7 from me.

Great for watching football with loads of big screens. Also has loads of lowlifes later on. A couple of scummers were smoking in here the other week and the manager/door staff were too scared of them to do anything about it. Not the greatest pint of ale in the world but it's OK. Hen night capital of Carlisle on a Thursday.

A Dump - understaffed, dirty, poor food and compared to the other 'Spoon's along the road needs to be shut!

Had a crackin' night in here on 15th January, met some decent locals very friendly to me, the token Londoner.

The main 'starting point' for many peoples night out. Always busy at weekends from 7-11, tho is open til 1/2am. Plenty of drinks on offer, and a decent menu. One of the better establishments.

This is a fairly new addition to Carlisle, a lloyds no 1. Very stylish, groovy loos, fab food and a late license. Just down the road from the wetherspoons, handy for the train station and a very cheap hotel (ibis) opposite. Had a fab nite here a while back and a hangovewr from hell the next day. Its great!
