please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Please stop changing the name of the pub and the decor every 5 minutes it's confusing as! The drink is expensive for not a very good pint, that's if they have what you want because been a few times and the have run out. The beer comes up flat sometimes and if you get a short the mixers ain't much better. Been in a few times on a Friday and Saturday night and it does get busy but find the music to be a bit boring sometimes although do have a good night but put that down to the company I'm in, it could be so much better in there with little effort and minus the fat bully that currently runs it.

Was starting to be a great pub again with new managers, now see they have gone and the old prat of manager is back! New drinking hole needed again 😟
lagerlass - 23 Aug 2015 15:25
Now called George II. I think it's a gay pub as there's so many blokes in it - well judging from those outside.
BusterGut - 28 Dec 2014 18:24
What was wrong with the previous name.
hogshead - 10 Feb 2012 18:21
Pub now called OJs and is a complete shithole
BusterGut - 8 Aug 2011 12:08
wont be going there again. the landlord is totally devoid of any personality and downright rude. beer is dodgy and vastly overpriced, 3.50 a pint when the west ham game was on!! went for live music particularly burns bros and they had a disco. the only thing going for this pub is the great live music and all they seem to have now is a cheapo disco. toilets are disgraceful and absolutely stink. no reason for me to come here again

Alright for a late beer with a bit of live music. The toilets are disgrace though, tiny and dirty. One hint for the staff as well, dont serve a round of drinks and then less then 2 minutes later, open the doors and force you out when its minus 3! My Dad who was over from Ireland could not believe it, customer relations my arse!

Getting a bit boring on a Sunday as they have the Burns brothers duo too often.
gilberto - 24 Dec 2010 00:56
expensive drinks but great music particularly the duo on sunday nights. bar staff are quick and friendly. could do with advertising what bands are on on the board outside instead of football all the time so i can see whats on when i walk past or go by on the bus!

having been recently refurbed it looks great , but to be honest i think its about time some of the staff moved on. especially the blonde who thinks she is the queen of sheeba and looks down her nose at anyone younger and is very rude.
the old staff seemed all to have gone because of this which is a shame because they were all a great laugh. The music is great over the weekend and overall its a good atmosphere dispite my little moan i actually like this pub and the landlord x

Now this is a better pub in the town centre. Wide selection of St. George flags, points this out as a traditional pub, not afraid to follow England in the Footy. I believe there are the occasional Happy Hammers fans here too. Good crowds over the weekend, for predictable, BUT, good entertainment. If the music doesn't entertain you, the people will. Recently re-decorated, and a selection of BIG TV's for the footy or egg chasing. No need to secure the one good vantage pub, that most "Sports Orientated" bars tend to have.
Good selection of beverages, Pumps and Optics. Not tried the snacks, but the usual assortments will be there aplenty. Service is fairly swift, even on very busy nights. And where the staff should be appreciated, they know who is next in the queue, unlike the usual "free-for-all" in the other town venues. Door staff are very curteous and professional, this is also true of the Firkin Shamefull over the road, but here is an enforced numbers and last entry policy, which is well run.
The only downside, are the convienencies which are small and inconvienently located next to the stage, which usually means a carefully planned route through the crowds. Both there and Back. This a venue worthy of more than one visit a week.

Great pub with top-notch live entertainment. Check out Sunday nights with The Burns Brothers!

Rosie and Lin (AKA Lynn) there they were last thursday with a lovely smiling welcome and they even removed the tops of the Bud for us, at least it saved our teeth. Good night, good company see you soon!

Been here a few times on a Friday and a Saturday evenings and found it to be unfriendly the bouncers practically push you out the door around closing time.

Will not be going back again

im in here alot more than i used to be , namely due to a change in my drinking circle , used to only pop in for a quick pint on way to weatherspoons or fatlin depending which bus id got .
spending more time in here my opinon of this pub has changed for the better , the bar staff are friendly and usually pretty quick, the beer (depending what you drink)the john smiths is sometimes a little bit iffy , the lager (fosters anyway) isnt too bad and the cider (so im told) is spot on
it is a proper horse racing pub and you do occasionally hear a few good tips , as a horse racing pub the clientelle is mainly male aged 35+ (apart from me).
it is (if you give it a chance) a bloody good pub , i would rate it 7.5/10 , downsides being small toilets , beer being iffy more often than not and one of the barmaids finishing happy hour 10mins early cause i had half pint left
romfordir - 5 Aug 2008 13:33
went in cricketers for the first time last week on a saturday and sunday and had a couple of great nights. the duo playing on saturday were okay but the duo playing on the sunday were fantastic!and yes the barmaids were friendly. toilets left a lot to be desired though. i can see myself becomoing a sunday regular and maybe saturday too!

which barmaid is fergie? i think ive met all the others.

anonymous - 4 Nov 2007 11:16
Friday & Saturday nights are the best, the atmosphere is good, dont get any real trouble, just a few idiots like anywhere else.....Barmaids are the best, have a good banter with you, a couple of them always have a smile on their faces...... we like Zara she has to be the top barmaid, always smiling and friendly.... Rose, Lin and Kim are the same, think they just like their jobs....... ALL IN ALL TOP PUB.....FERGIE IS THE BEST

great music is about the only good thing going for the pub. beer is dear, staff on a sunday are friendly but who runs the place?! its a bit faceless really but as i say they do manage to get great live music in there. the band on a sunday are fantastic and saturdays are usually great too.

Further to last year's comments. Owners have painted everything white and removed the net curtains. It looks a little sterile now but an improvement none the less. The Empty bar I mentioned has been turned into a very nice (But expensive) wine bar called Oliver's. Rosie and Lin are still there (but for some strange reason Lin wants to be known as Lynn). However the Bouncers - Sean and Kevin - do not seem to be there anymore. Music and Atmosphere on Fridays and Saturdays as good as ever and Thursdays are becoming popular again. Visit on a Thursday to catch Rosie and Lin (AKA Lynn) in their best Banter mode.

happy hours back on 4pm - 7pm any draught 1.90 a pint , only reason i went in there was cause of the sign and the fact my watch said 401pm . worth a visit between 4 and 7 if you wana have a look
romfordir - 26 Aug 2007 04:01
new wine bar type thing called olivers has opened up next door to this pub , where the carvery used to be , over 25s looks a bit up market , have yet to visit but the cricketers is still a good pub , reasonable prices , friendly staff , only down side is the toilets bit cramped n smelly but its a old pub
not a bad boozer
romfordir - 23 May 2007 18:40
Some of the comments about this pub are ridiculous. I have been going there for a few years now. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is great and you always get a decent pint in there. They show all the football games and have quality live music 4 nights a week. Top pub in my opinion.
dagpaul86 - 26 Feb 2007 12:57
The pub is not as bad as u lot r makin it out to be its friendly and all the staff r really friendly the prices r prob in line with others in the area but they do have happy hour from 4 till 7 so then its cheaper than the others so stop complaing and give it a chance u might find ur self enjoying ur self for once because its a propper pub not a franchised hole like the rest in hornchurch.
anonymous - 4 Feb 2007 12:44
Not bad but very smoky when it gets busy, and by getting busy you can only fit about 40 people in there. I think it would be great if they opened up the bigger function area. The pub is also pricy for what it is.
MrWhiskey - 14 Dec 2006 02:27
Terrible little hole and not one I would frequent on a regular basis. Toilets are terrible and small and the customers are surly and give you the customary stare as you walk in through the door. I walked in and then straight back out again.
realaleman - 3 Dec 2006 02:07
The Cricketers is a basic almost spit and sawdust pub and quite dismal. Although it seems quite small you will find that there is a second bar that is hardly ever used, even when the used side is unbearably crammed. Usually have the bigger footie matches on large screens. Prices are middling for the area. The usual Barmaids give good natured Banta, (Rosie and Lin in particular) and the bouncers look like they bite the heads of small children but are in fact very approachable and are part of the overall charm of the place. But the best thing about the Cricketers is the atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights boosted by the live music. There is music on a Thursday night as well but for some reason the punters no longer show in large numbers. The music is generally 70s and 80s with some modern stuff. Definitely an older persons scene (30-50 something).
Ray_Rob_Martin - 11 Oct 2006 16:53
Exremely pricey for what is basically an old man's pub. The beer's not great but the bar staff are generally quick and helpful.
Oskins - 29 Aug 2006 13:36
a bit small , the toilet can take about 3 people at a push and they have to be slim , but that is about the only downside , oh and the old man element , but they just worry about the betting slips and never really bother anyone.
the staff seem friendly even the bouncers of a evening seem friendly , the beer is not too bad , i remember they used to have happy hour 4-7 every weekday which was blinding
in all not a bad boozer dearer than its neighbour but a nice relaxed atmosphere
